I wonder if Vader will have a bikini skin... ^^ Or Yoda.
I just had a horrible vision of Jabba the Hutt making an appearance in the next DOA Extreme Beach Volleyball game.

Anyway, while I'm really scratching my head over this, it's not like I wouldn't play the game if I had the opportunity. I've always liked Soul Calibur, and maybe what could have been done would have been a port to a Star Wars-like fighting game using bits and pieces of that engine instead of a guest appearance in a universe they would totally not be thought of to be in.

But I realize such endeavors take a lot of time and effort.

SOUUUUUUL

CALIBUUR!

I just hope the game is as good as the second soul calibur. Soul calibur 3 was okay but a little watered down. This is my fav fighting series dont screw it up NAMCO. If the game is balanced and fun i could care less what "extra promotional" characters they put in. From what i remember you couldnt use anyone of the special characters in tourneys anyways.

Eh, did someone already write a review for the latest soul calibur yet? I mean, the ones that are already out there, not the ones in development.

Well, i'll be searching that, but i just wanted to request a review. I think i just want to know more about the fighting system of soul calibur.

Personally, I always gt my ass handed to me online using Nicole on DOA4. That aside, this is, quite simply, stupid. Third party characters from other video games are one thing, or characters designed by the art designer, i.e. Spawn, but, to quote from the awesome movie Robocop, "I always knew where the line was drawn...and you just stepped over it, budy-boy!"

Of course now Namco is saying Yoda is exclusive to Xbox, and Vader is only for the PS3, which kills the whole idea.
Yeah its like the whole Link and spawn idea they did.
I realize that, but I've never really had the desire to fight it out between Link, and Spawn so dividing them between systems was no big deal. Introducing Yoda, and Vader, however, and not putting them in the same version of the game? That's just cruel.

The way I see it, this is not DOA4. the soul caliber guys have more experience with balencing guest fighters and this should be no different.

Besides, who in their right mind would pass up a chance to pit Vader vs Nightmare?
I may buy a PS3 just for that.

Has soul calibur ever been balanced, really? At least 3 is horribly imbalanced. Not that I really mind, I mean, I'm not exactly tournament material, but it's still quite obvious that some characters are just plain better.

yes sc1 and 3 were both balanced excluding spawn. i would like to say FAIL. FAIL for putting darth and yoda into seperate games, then it fucks over people who want to see the best fight ever and do it again over and over again. konami needs to stop this. i never got to play as link cause i had an xbox, and that SUCKED and now i need both systems to plaay as the best good and bad jedi ever? FAIL.

I came up with like a dozen different responses to this news...

1.) As expected of many washed-up celebrities, Darth Vader and Yoda have both fallen on hard times after the trilogies, and begrudgingly appear in soft-core pornography.

2.) Now, whenever Nightmare needs to say something, we will NOT hear "Offer your soul". He too will be redubbed with random soundbites from innocuous past James Earl Jones movies. This will make those endless Guard Impact between him and Vader even sillier. "Ah-HAH!" "Ah-HAH!" "Ah-HAH!" "Ah-HAH!" "Ah-HAH!" "Ah-HAH!"

3.) NO. No. FUCK no. No I won't allow this. NO. this is a dream this is just a dream a bad dream I wanna wake up...

4.) It's still better than Necrid. No, wait. No, it isn't. Necrid was a character specifically made (however poorly) for the SoulCalibur universe. Never mind.

5.) Somewhere in the world you know- you know that the Dark Lord Of The Sith and galactic scourge Darth Vader is going to get his ASS handed to him in triplicate by a 15-year-old Wind Goddess acolyte with big Disney eyes who says things like "You did your best. I respect that."

6.) Voldo will speak for the first time when he slithers up to Luke and Leia and tells them they're creepy.

7.) I'm not going to buy this game out of fear of Cookie Monster walking by the house when I'm trying to (sigh) win the game with Yoda. Once Cookie hears the grunts of Yoda in battle, he's going to think his pal Grover is being tortured inside the house, OM NOM NOM NOM his way through my front door, and swallow me whole.

8.) Yoda will suddenly think he's been transported back to his swamp planet when Astaroth accidentally sits on the Jedi Master.

9.) Okay, so the "long, long time ago" was actually circa 16th Century; fine. But WTF- your idea of a "galaxy far, far away" is feudal Japan???

10.) To best adapt to the SoulCalibur world, Yoda's alternate costume will consist of pasties, a thong, armored boots, and a single spiked shoulder pad.

11.) Screw Yoda and Vader- give me a video game where I can beat the living crapola out of George Lucas. First he mucks with characters from my childhood, now this. There's at least three Summon Sufferings out there with his name on them- one for each prequel.

12.) Oh. Vader just sliced Soul Edge in half. Huh. Well, up until then it was a great video game franchise.

Shouldn't you be more worried that Cookie Monster will appear in SC5? ^^

...Unless that's how this series ends: Deus Ex Machina with Darth Vader slicing both swords into little pieces ^^

"yes sc1 and 3 were both balanced excluding spawn."

Wasn't Spawn in SC2?

I do hope there's a Jar-Jar Binks hidden character... because then I would feel like all those long hours of Astaroth practice were not for nothing. MAAAAAASH! :)

Well, if the character edit stuff is flexible enough you could try and turn Voldo into Jar Jar or something?

I'm planning to try for a Gamorrean Guard with Vibro Axe skin for Rock/Asty myself. Or try turning Kilik/Sueng Mina into an Imperial Royal Guard with Force Lance. Now who'd make a good stormtrooper? We need an unarmed dude somewhere, bring Heihachi back.

I like the line of thought that Namco wouldn't bother with such an expensive license as Star Wars just for these two characters and that they'll probably be adding others down the line. According to 1up Namco has been pulling Star Wars stuff into Ace Combat 6 as well, so it wouldn't be that much of a leap.

I think this is funny stuff myself, and as a huge Star Wars fan I can't wait to go to town with Vader's Force Choke throw. They can hardly not make it a move, can they?

Heh. I'd like to think that my own self-preservation takes some precedence over the line-up in a fighting game. :p

But I concur: Cookie Monster in SC5 would be awful. However, a guy with a Cookie Monster puppet as a weapon in SC5 would be AWESOME- catching blows from Soul Edge in Cookie's mouth and "Me send you to Hell!" coming from both the puppeteer and CM, with those big ping-pong eyes rattling.

Then, millions of children the world over suddenly grow up as the puppeteer has Cookie repeatedly "bite" Ivy in the chest. Uncomfortable; considering by SC5, Namco will finally succumb to their own lust and make every character (even the new armored girl completely naked. Sorry, you're right- Cookie Monster's a bad idea.

Oh yeah... Yoda. Hey wait a minute- Yoda was a puppet when he first appeared. Huh.

Now there's something I want to see in SC4. The alternate Yoda costume is Frank Oz with a Yoda puppet, and Namco makes fighting game history by making a character with a special move exclusive to their alternate costume. Oz removes the puppet and swings the Yoda head like a blackjack into his opponent's face and ears repeatedly.

Specifically, the ears and face of Xianghua. "No. THIS is a 'zinging', you chirping twerp."

Yoda is kinda meh and unnecessary to me. But Darth Vader just screams "GOD YES!", even if I'm not a Star Wars fan. I really don't care f they look out of place, unless Namco brilliantly explains that the Soul Edge created the Dark Side of the Force. I always thought Soul Calibur was the fan service fighter for gamers in a general sense while DOA was the fan service fighter for guys. Only thing I don't understand is how ordinary metal weapons are able to hold off against Light Sabers without melting.

Now I'm just waiting for Dante/Virgil, Ninja Grey Fox and Teal'c to appear.

The same way they keep the combatants keep their limbs intact. Seriously, Talim would be pretty damn gimped if the swords acted a bit more like swords. And nothing of value would be lost.
