Im pretty sure this hasn't been done before if it has please correct me.

What if someone made a hyper realistic zombie horror survival game where you had to find your own safe house make your own food gather your own supplies and meet other survivors in a gigantic town suck as New York. A zombie could kill you in one bite and they could only be kill be destroying the brain. You would have to survive for either a set amount of days or gather certain supplies to make some sort of make shift getaway. You would have to garden and hunt for your own food decide whether or not to kill fellow survivors for supplies or work together. Overall you would have to think of everything to survive in this game like making a trap or wake up call when you are sleeping and stuff like that.

I just want to know what you guys think of this idea please leave ideas. Constructive criticism is appreciated

I've always thought something like this would make a great game. I just have no idea how all the different elements could be implemented.

Have you ever played Dead Frontier? It's a free zombie MMO, and it has a lot of similarities as yours.

But yes, I love the idea. In fact, I'm working on a Source mod, using the headshot only method. It's a personal project, so it will take a while.

When would it start out? Post-breakout or at the very beginning? Cause slowly putting together a safehouse while the world goes to hell would be awesome. You could get different objectives slowly, from the beginning 'find somewhere to hide' to the endgame 'get out of the city before the military bombs it to hell'.

Hmmmm, it could work but for stuff like this it needs A LOT of processing power behind it. And you'll feel like you'll need to constantly save to ward off attacks. And it doesn't feel like it has much depth. Just kill zombies. Sure there ARE games like that, but they normally have a story incorparated into them. Like you said survive so many days. What keeps me from just gathering a messload of food on day one and two, booking it to a office tower, blocking the enterence and just sitting there until it ticks down? Nothing really. mmmm great game that can be won by sitting in one spot. see Deadrising got around it by getting zombrex for your kid, forcing you to interact, but if it's hyper realistic and I can go anywhere do anything to stop the horde, there needs to be a true goal or purpose in mind to want to survive and explore.

You should learn how to make games. Then make this. Or sell it as an IP. To a GOOD developer. Not someone who will cannabalize it.

I'm not a fan of hyper realism. on-hit kills in a infested land of enemies that can only be killed in one way? More than challenging seems unfair. They outnumber you, are tougher to kill and you have limited supplies. You need something to give the player an edge, an advantage over the undead. Limitations are fine in a survival horror, but in a gmae riddle with enemies, it is just plain unfair (see difference between Resident Evil and Left 4 Dead) While a zombie "MMO" with save houses and resources gathering seems fun, but the extra is too much. But rock on, I could be wrong.

I've played that site before. It's all pretty much about being faster than everyone else and knowing where to look for weapons at.

OT: Yeah, that seems like a great idea. I hear that Nintendo or something is working some virtual reality games like that but from what I hear from my friend whose uncle works there, it's still in beta testing. But that sounds great man.

This is just the base of the game. A story can be added on but it will probably be one of those cliche zombie stories... but I guess maybe instead of holding out for a few days you have to find a way out but most of the paths will be blocked so you have to find and use supplies to break open the barrier so to speak. It would be a risk/reward type of thing. Each barrier could open up to another part of the city and you could choose how you work your way through it.

*nods* okay then that could work. It might do well for a co-op option to. Sounds like it might work

Yes, but Dead Frontier is really broken. It would be fun if an actual professional studio made it.

OP: Nice idea mate.

You're new here, so you probably ought to know, "bumping" and stuff like that that you'll see on other forums isn't generally approved of here on The Escapist. ALL posts are supposed to have some conversation value.

OT: It's not exactly a new idea. Someone almost certainly would have done it already if it weren't for the fact that actually making it would be incredibly difficult, cost a ridiculous amount of money, time, and other resources, etc...

Woops sorry about the bumping, but yes I know that it would be very difficult to make but maybe sometime in the future with better technology

Well, I think we already have the technology, the problem is that in order to build a game with that many gameplay elements using modern graphics it'd cost a metric shit ton of money to make (for reference, a metric shit ton is more than a metric butt load, but less than a metric ass ton). Seriously though, the cost of creating games with modern graphics is staggering, if we, as consumers, were to stop demanding them, then there's a good chance not only that someone could make a game like that, but that they would. The zombie genre, for anyone who hasn't noticed, is incredibly popular. Trust me when I say you're not the only person this idea has occurred to. But because the game itself would be so revolutionary, investing in it could be risky business, (especially since it'd be a pretty big game, with lots of room for game braking problems). And since creating it with modern graphics would be such a massive investment we'll be lucky if we ever get to see something like it, instead of being stuck in the same sea of endless clones that we often find ourselves in right now.
