He got what was coming to him. For what he did he should have been punished, but I do thank that shooting him was not necessary.

It's like that time the father went to his daughters wedding, only to be beaten to death by a bunch of kids who were trying to look cool in front of girls.
Got a link to that story? I wouldn't say no to giving that a read.
Sure thing. There was a thread on this site for it, but it has 404'd. Luckily I bookmarked the article.

What? That's stupid! If I went around shooting everyone who did that I would've shot hundreds, possibly thousands of people. This is unjustifiable, especially seen as though it was a kid. And newsflash, kids do stupid things without thinking about it. She should of called the police and have him sent to juvie.
It wasn't a "stupid thing", it had been happening for a year!

As far as i'm concerned, her aim was off.

Someone terrorises an old lady for a year, they deserve what they get, as they clearly have no sense of compassion or understanding. Prissy little "humans shouldn't be hurt, everyone is speshul" space cadets need a few lessons in real life.
There is a difference between hurt and killed. He's 12 years old. Not saying he shouldn't be hurt, but being shot is overkill.
Some people shouldn't be allowed to live. This kid is one of those people.
Ugh, you are one of those people. Everyone has a right to live, taking that away or saying someone doesn't deserve it puts you in the same catagory as Nazis to me. And he was a kid, a stupid kid who would of wised up after time in juvie. Shooting him was unnessisary, Granny should of gone to the cops. If it had been happening for a year then why didn't she go earlier? Violance is never needed and should always be avioded. For only weak minds turn to violance in times of need. There is always another way.

So verbal abuse is enough justification to shoot children?
No. But the bricks the kid was throwing are potentially lethal. Probably the key reason no charges are being filed against granny.
Still, it's kind of a disproportionate retribution. And I'd like to say that I like your avatar.

I don't care about all you people who say that the child should not have been shot, the granny was being harassed for a year, if i had thrown a brick at her and got shot, it would be my fault and i would deserve it.

Does freedom of speech not apply to children, who can be shot for being mouthy?

I know it's not quite as simple as that, but it does seem a bit extreme to shoot a child, even if he was being a bastard.

I hope she was a crack shot and was aiming for his shoulder, because if not she's extremely lucky. Six inches out and she could have hit him in the head or chest.
Freedom of speech tends to go out the window when someone's throwing bricks through windows.

I would say the old lady was probably in the right (assuming the OP contained all the information), but she should be brought up on charges as it was a somewhat extreme response.

In her shoes, I probably would have done the same thing, though I'd likely give the kid a warning shot first, and if he didn't clear out, or ever came back, then I'd shoot him.

This just made my day.

Refreshing change after hearing people easily get off for doing something horrible, now they get off for showing a little shite a leesson.

Poorly worded on my part but still I stand by it, and that awesome granny.

i supose violence leads to violence its just an endless spiral that will remain the same till the end of time. Sure people can change but not everyone. Its like asking for a miracle.
Violence leads to nothing but more violence...... Which in turn means you were violent enough to end all the violence.

I think people are only takeing the child's side because he's a kid. If he wasn't I doubt anybody would side with him. Doesn't matter whether he's a kid or not if he picked on an elderly woman for a year he's still a prick.

The kid wasn't very smart. Good things don't come from harassing the elderly.

It is a shame that getting shot had to be a potential lesson for him. Hopefully he's learned something from this.

The boy was armed and stupid. The parents should be ashamed of having such a child, and will hopefully not have been responsible for bringing up multiple little monsters. As the woman was elderly, there would not of been much else she could have done to defend herself. Were I, in my mid-twenties, to use a firearm to defend my home from a preteen bastard, I would be rightfully charged with a crime. I could have used physical force to subdue the attacker.

It seems like the law is working in this circumstance.

You are 100% right. Every single individual has the right to live as they see fit. Until they begin infringing on that right against others. Once someone makes the conscious decision to bring violence on another, they forfeit any claim to their life and freedom. The aggressor's rights do not supersede the rights of the victims. Ever.

PS - Granny did go to the cops. They didn't do anything, at least according to the article.

PPS - There are some people who cannot comprehend anything other than violence. The fear of consequence is the only thing keeping them in line, and when no other forms of consequence are available (as was the case here), violence is perfectly acceptable.
