Next CoD Speculation

So it might be a little early to be thinking about this (well not really since CoD is a yearly release thing) but what do you think the next Call of Duty is going to be about? And I'm pretty sure there's going to be another one, because Activision would be crazy to let that money pile die.

MW3 ended the Modern Warfare story, so I wonder what Infinity Ward is going to be doing for the next one, and if Treyarch gets to do this year's, I wonder where they'll go. I can't really see returning to the Cold War Era working, and going back to WWII would probably be an even bigger disaster. Not only that, but the DLC map "Moon" was supposed to end the story revolving around the Zombies mode, so I wonder if Treyarch will be able to continue without that.

So yeah, any ideas?

You forgot the part about the middle eastern country with enemies who are most definitely not the taliban.

I think it will slot in with Black Ops in one way or another.

Kinda wish the series would go back to WWII if it cant just die outright, but there you go...

I just can't really see WWII working again. We've already seen almost all possible campaigns and guns. They'd have to be really creative for it to work again, and CoD's not really known for creativity. (At least in regards to changing the formula.)

In the last speculation thread that came up for MW3 I made a satirical post about the world being cracked apart by nukes, a main character death in every level, and kill streaks starting at one kill, (all over the top stupid things) and I said that the Native American tomahawk would replace the knife as the melee weapon, but it would also have unlimited range, and be a one-hit-kill anywhere on the body. I was just exacerbating the lunging knife kill ability to the extreme, introducing a nonsensical, ancient weapon in "modern" war that is also somehow the best ranged weapon. Then somebody showed me the tomahawks in Black Ops...

So I am not making splurious guesses anymore. They just might come true.

Well I meant in terms of Campaigns, CoD hasn't really changed the formula all that much since CoD4. But yeah I guess there still is a lot of stuff WWII can do in Multiplayer. Attack Dogs is probably my favorite killstreak of all time.

Depends on basically one thing: if the developers know that the franchise has been milked too much, they'll try to do something different, à la Battlefield 2142. Otherwise, expect some war of the XX century

Not sure most major wars have been done to death COD and other games. I suppose having a entire game devoted to The Vietnam War would be the most obvious, though that might be too similar to Black Ops. They could do a Korean War or Gulf War setting, but they may to similar to the WWII CODs and Modern Warfare respectively. So maybe a future setting or lesser known conflict from the past. Like the Cod wars, they could call it COD:Cod where you control a squad of icelandic fishermen taking on the Royal Navy

That the would awesome. The story would be good with that premise too; Zombie Nazis team up with Russians and invade Antarctica because...well that's what Russians do apparently and base of previous COD games they're gonna start running out of continents to invade at this rate of game releases.
