What I'm saying is that Hollywood would likely pull something to that effect once you introduce werewolves. Just look at Alice in Wonderland, Snow White and the Huntsman, and Hansel and Gretel. And to a lesser extend Oz the Great and Powerful.
Were any of those Disney films?

We are, after all, talking about Disney films here. And I think they've proven that they can handle some pretty incredible adaptations of fairy tales.

Particularly since "Once Upon a Time" is made by... Disney.

How about they come up with more original stories instead of plundering public domain, then turning around and slapping draconian copyrights on their version?

Don't get me wrong, I've enjoyed many of their films, including ones based on fairy tales. I just think it's hypocritical that they push for stringent and overbearing copyright rules for their content, even though they didn't have to pay a cent in royalties when coming up with their interpretation. I know they have the talent for coming up with new stories if they put their minds to it. My favorite Disney animated film is The Emperor's New Groove, and its similarities to The Emperor's New Clothes are practically nil.

Can superheroes be considered modern mythology/folk tales? If so, then more Marvel films would be just fine by me.

The Lion King is even an original work.
The Lion Kings is actual Shakespeare. It is the play Hamlet just a nice kids version. I would love to see more plays reworked by Disney.

Considering the success of Frozen and that it is staple that Disney makes movies inspired by fairytales, which fairytale would you like to be disneyfied next?

So far there has been (not including the animated shorts):

Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, King Arthur, Hercules (Greek Mythology), Emperor's New Clothes, Cinderella, The Little Mermaid, Beauty & the Beast, Aladdin and the Wonderful Lamp, Ballad of Mulan, Henny Penny, The Frog Prince, Rapunzel and The Snow Queen. (I might have missed a few).

Personally I would love Six Swans to be adapted, perhaps not by Disney as I want a specific book (Daughter of the Forest) to be made into dark, animated movie/or live action tv mini series. But if that cannot happen Disney would be my next choice.

That and the light princess, only because I love George Macdonald.

What about you? Are there any more fairytales you want to adapted?
Speaking of George MacDonald I've often thought that we need a better adaptation of The Princess and The Goblin than we got... though I'm not sure that even Disney could pull off an actual *good* one.

I'm gonna go against the grain here and say this: considering Disney's recent work (Frozen, Once Upon a Time), I'd prefer to see Disney take a shot at... REMAKES.

The original Snow White and Cinderella are... well, not very good. They have a certain classical appeal, but are otherwise pretty crappy.

For example - in the 1800s, there were two versions of the Cinderella story. One is the super religious version which ended up inspiring the Disney film (with a Fairy Godmother replacing God/the ghost of her dead mother). The other involves Cinderella attempting to reclaim her stolen kingdom (that is, she wasn't a peasant girl - she was dethroned royalty). She wanted an alliance with the Prince rather than love/marriage. Also, she's quite skilled with a sword and fights Trolls.

I want to see Disney makes THAT version of Cinderella.

They could even retitle it if they don't want to conflict with their previous film. And add another Princess to their lineup at the same time.

As for Snow White... well, it would be kinda hard to beat the one from Once Upon a Time.

....

Oh, and keeping Once Upon a Time in mind... no one has mentioned "Little Red Riding Hood" so far. :p
Didn't that version of Cinderella already have a different title and different name for the protagonist?
People always seem to forget that 'Cinderella' was the character's nickname (given to her by the least revolting of her three stepsisters), she was given the nickname because she had no bed and slept on the hearth *in the ashes* to keep warm.
Do you really think that the Snow White story-line in Once Upon A Time is that good? I mean sure, having an overarching story that brings all the others together is *fantastic*, but of the individual story-lines I actually think that the Snow White core story is the weakest of the stories they've presented.
(I'm *terrified* to see what OUAT might do to Anna & Elsa.....)

Jack the Giant Slayer
Since I created this thread I ended up looking at Disney's upcoming animated movies, apparently they are making a new movie based on the Jack and the beanstalk fairytale. Its called Giants.

I have to admit I really enjoyed it, although the animation was kind of...bad. It did get me hooked on George Macdonald's works though. But a new version would be great.
