Simply crossing the line into giving a construct (Autons are plastic) emotions is nothing.

Doctor Who has masses of potential for quality. A lot of the singular episodes could've been quite easily extended into double part episodes and the doubles could've been extended further.Baron Khaine said:

Dexter is a poor example because they are doing the bare minimum with the story. It started off as him hunting criminals with a main plot intertwined throughout each episode, such as the ice truck killer, but now it has downgraded itself to continual references to his personal life and they spent *way* too much time on his home life and you very rarely ever get to see him actually hunting criminals now. But as I said above, there is a near infinite pit of potential for Doctor Who. He has NINE HUNDRED YEARS of lifetime to explore. Realisitically they could make a season 50 episodes long and still have plenty of material left. They simply keep going back to the now stale enemies such as the daleks and cybermen.
