I don't see why they wouldn't do it in the new engine. Especially since the new engine adapted ideas from what they did with Fallout.

As far as I've heard, the only inclination that there is even going to be another Fallout game (apart from, you know, SALES) is that Bethesda said something along the lines of "we bought the rights so we could make more than one of them."

There's no info about it -- not about engines, setting, characters, etc.

Unless something has been announced since I last checked.

But I would hope that it would use an updated version of the Skyrim engine. Why run on (what will be) outdated tech?

I shudder at the thought of all new glitches to deal with.
I still have nightmares about the last Fallout's frequent crashing.

i shudder at the thought of another fallout game with the same terrain for 7000 sq miles. although maybe with the creation engine they can create some sort of variety in the games.

I always wonder, while talking about Oblivion and Fallout, if I played the same game others did... Cause I really liked the terrain in all 3 (both new Fallouts...), it got me in a great mood.

My problem with the Fallout games (3 and New Vegas, that is) is that all of the world felt the same. I have no issue with Oblivion. Oblivion was varied enough to keep me interested, although thinking back on it there was a lot of similar areas. I never finished New Vegas, just because it felt like more Fallout 3, which I liked but just couldn't spend another 100+ hours wandering a wasteland that seemed exactly the same as the last.

I really doubt Bethesda built a new engine specifically for Skyrim. Usually an engine is built with the idea to produce many games, with one in mind to showcase it. It's safe to say that all of Bethesda's games will be developed with this engine until they build a new one.

Remember id Tech 5 was recently developed. Who knows, they may use that instead as all Zenimax devs can use it.
Well, you are somewhat correct. As far as them being publishers, the id Tech 5 engine will be used a ton. However, for games that Bethesda specifically develops, I see them really only using the Creation engine. By Bethesda being both publisher and developer, they will most likely focus their developing energy on games along the WRPG route. I believe they made a racing game nearly ten years ago, which was their only non WRPG project in that time period.

Oh! A thread about what is more than likely going to be my most anticipated game ever in 25 years of gaming :)

I just realised how far away Fallout 4 probably actually is. Sadface now.

They will probably use an updated version of Skyrim's engine. I don't think Skyrim's current engine is quite prepped for gunplay or has the capacity to deal with the kind of physics engine shooting games demand.

No doubt they'll uncover a host of bugs and shortcoming to be fixed after Skyrim comes out, so the engine will be modded from it's original state at least.
