OI! I was about to say that!

Hm, okay, let's dress it up slightly:
"Windows 9 will include a Kinect sensor packaged with the software. Windows 9 has been designed with Kinect in mind, giving you a streamlined Operating System experience!"
[small]Note: Windows 9 will not function without a Kinect sensor. If you buy a software download of Windows 9 at Microsoft Online, the Kinect sensor will be mailed to your address. Do not worry - we know where you live. Attempting to disable the Kinect sensor will result in immediate termination.[/small]

Considering how many projects around my university use Kinects as their sensors this is great news. Can't wait to see what people come up with for it.

Well i won't buy it, THIS patent HERE( it is about "CONTENT DISTRIBUTION REGULATION BY VIEWING USER ")

http://appft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO1&Sect2=HITOFF&d=PG01&p=1&u=%2Fnetahtml%2FPTO%2Fsrchnum.html&r=1&f=G&l=50&s1=%2220120278904%22.PGNR.&OS=DN/20120278904&RS=DN/20120278904

Scares the crap out of me. Face recognition? Even in the dark? It counts how much user watch the show and you have tu pay more if you want to watch with friends?

Brrrr

No doubt there will be some really cool things people do with this tech.
Whoa. Can it be? There's someone around here who has at least an idea of how the Kinect is much more than an awkward gaming controller?!

.. not at all surprised how Microsoft seems to hurry it, given how the old Kinect was made available to PCs way before Microsoft even (seemed to have) understood how big the possible market could be.

Can't wait, personally.

"Any modification due to the OS itself and the Kinect itself will lead to an interrogation by MS' very own Thought Po- ERRR Consumer Information Class designed to teach on how to operate the OS, despite your prior knowledge."

Yeah, me not liking this at all. If MS does do that, I'm heading straight to either the BSDs or Linux. I don't give a damn if they're hard to use fully, I'll learn anyway. :p

I don't need it and I don't particulary want it...

BUT, if there was ever a platform that could actually benefit from a Kinect, it's the PC. We already use webcams a lot, and gesture control is something I could definitely see myself using. The pricetag will be a barrier, of course, but we're already seeing people use the kinect to make some funky stuff despite that, so... all in all, I'm interested to see where this will lead.

Also, I reckon a Kinect specifically designed for a PC would be adjusted to scan a person at much closer range rather than the Xbox version which looks at around 2-3 meters. It should be no problem for them to just install a different lens.
I'm curious how they're gonna be able to fit the thing on top of our flatscreens, though. Compared to a webcam, a Kinect is kinda large.

I bet someone will turn a laptop and Kinect 2 into a 3D environment scanner. Every real estate agent will want one.

My first thought when I read the title was "why?"

Is there really a demand for Kinect? 'Cause it seems to me like Microsoft just wants us to think [https://encyclopediadramatica.se/Forced_meme] there [https://encyclopediadramatica.se/Trying_too_hard] is [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exposure_effect].

Coming up next: Kinect will come bundled and be mandatory with Windows 9! With Windows 9 you'll be able to surf the internet even faster with the all new Internet Explorer! Internet! Browser! Internet! News surfing! Internet!

Xbox, shut down.

But to be serious, the homebrewed kinect stuff is already much better than kinect used for games.

This won't work. People don't place their PCs in grand open spaces, but usually in smaller offices, bedrooms or in a corner of the living room. Furthermore, PCs are great because they are PCs, not because they are a Kinect short of being a console (nothing against consoles, but each system has its strengths).

Once the forefront of technological advancement... now the creepy guy living across the street watching you all day long through a spy glass

The glorious PC Gaming Master Race rejects your worthless motion sensor and Orwellian spy device. Why would I want motion controls? I have more keys than God on this thing.

I used to love Microsoft when it was the benevolent, galumphy giant that just crapped out a new OS every few years and called it good. Now it's trying to take over my living room AND my internet space. Games need to introduce Linux compatibility...

Am I the only one here that finds this completely and utterly creepy? I had a bad feeling that Microsoft was heading this direction so it doesn't surprise me but I tell you right now Microsoft does NOT have good intentions with this tech. Who the hell wants their face scanned in the dark and their heart rate monitored? Their voice picked out and recognized in a crowded room? WHO THE HELL NEEDS THIS TO GAME??? And how long before you can't buy a PC without all this extra Big Brother garbage being mandatory to operate it? I wouldn't be shocked if all this data mined info ends up in that new super huge data processing facility that's being built in Utah. FUCK YOU Microsoft. Take your Kinect, stick it up your ass and go die in a hole where you belong.

Was the original Kinect even usable for anything other than a webcam on pc? I never saw any content for it but either way i wont be buying one and a warning to others theres small print stating once plugged in it can never be removed, you have been warned.

Microsoft: Oh, you don't like the Kinect on Xbox One? That's okay! We'll bring the Kinect to the PC!

Windows Users: Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooo~!

Linux and Mac users point and laugh.

I wouldn't be to surprised if Apple had something up their sleeve too. And this is coming from a Mac user.
