I'm a WoW player. I like it for it's easy to pick up controls, awesome game world, and great storyline. However I'm wondering if there's another MMO out there that would be interesting for me. I've tried Everquest 2, hated it so it's a no. I tried Warhammer online, liked it but I feel like it was incomplete. What other MMOs would possibly be interesting for me to switch to? Should I grab LotR Online, Age of Conan, Vanguard Saga of Heroes(Which looked very interesting to me when I was reading previews.), etc. Or maybe I should wait for The Old Republic? Any suggestions?

Right I've played quite a few MMOS now so here's my opinions on some of them:

Lord of the Rings Online: I enjoyed this vast ammounts because of its endless number of quests and excellent story depth as well as faith to the Lord of the Rings books so if you a Tolkien fan its definately worth a look in and even if your only slightly aquainted with the books if your coming from WoW or another similar MMO the controls should be fairly familiar and easy to pick up. Haven' played the game for a while though so can't comment on the latest content and the Mines of Moria expansion.

Age of Conan: I enjoyed it for its dynamic content but that was one of its few selling points. You need to have a computer capable of handling the graphics and loot is sometimes few and far between. It also lacks the open world feel of other games like Wow or LOTRO which is a little disapointing and in spite of the fact it made my PC basically die it was fun for a while

If your into space maybe EVE but that requires a huge time commitment and has quite a large learning curve on it but if you can get in a corp will offer some interesting times. However if your patient you could always wait to try out Jumpgate Evolution which looks like it could be quite good.

I feel inspite of its old age and dwindling player base planetside can be worth a drop in for some MMOFPS mayhem but not sure how long it will last now.

Hope that helps a bit at least.

You could try Darkfall (released like, in a minute (or something)), but it's gonna be hard to get a copy and apparently not for "cowardly WoW players". Not my words.

Personally, I switched over to City of Heroes/Villains from WoW. I got kinda bord with WoW's endgame, didn't have time to PvP or raid. If you like storyline, I would suggest CoH/Cov, mainly because there's not fifty different quest givers all telling you to club boars, but one or two contacts with ongoing story arcs. Nearly every mission (19/20, about) is instanced, so it gives a really good feeling of crafting your own story.

To be honest, if you have tried another MMO but felt it to be "incomplete," rest assured this feeling will continue to gnaw upon you as you try the other MMOs out there.

You may like a particular game more than wow, but no game will reach the expansiveness for the forseeable future... the startup cost to compete directly with wow is prohibitive and all that remains for the other entrants in the field is various niches.

"Better balance than wow!"

"Better PvP combat than wow!"

"Better graphix than wow!"

but people always seem to float back to wow. For something completely different, I suggest www.tribalwars.net. Satiated my desire to pwn noobs for months after quitting wow.

Age of Conan I'd avoid. For starters, its in major profit trouble [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/7.90080?page=1]. Secondly, I didn't like it much, and it seems 6 out of 7 people didn't like it enough to keep subscribing.

A new and interesting take on the MMO genre. I suggest it in about twentyone days.

At the risk of being shot.. Guild Wars? It's fairly cheap now and it doesn't have a monthly fee or anything so you can be as casual as you like with it, but you can also get really into it, it's fun for all types of players really.

Personally I didn't like WoW that much, I got to level 20 and got bored. My friend insists it gets a lot better from about 40 on but that required a lot of grinding training, and games are supposed to be fun are they not?

So my vote is for Guild Wars, you max your level cap fairly quickly, and it goes based on your own skill from there on,and how well you've made your skill build, not 1% skill 99% items.

Thanks for this guys. But is there anyone who knows what Vanguard is like now? I know it wasn't great on release... but now that it's been patched?

Try Final Fantasy XI, it's slower than WoW but if you've enjoyed the FF series so far its quite good to be able to experience their elements on an MMO (assuming you like Final Fantasy, I'd ignore this if you don't)

I'll say what I always say in threads like this: EVE Online. Sure, the learning cliff is pretty steep, but the community is helpful enough. If you want to try it out, there's a 21 day trial if you download it through steam or get sent an invite by an established player like myself. I'd also be willing to help you in whatever way you need.

Now, the most important piece of information I think I could give you is that EVE is all about long-term rewards and every decision requires some level of planning or thought. The death penalty is also MUCH harsher than in WoW. If you want instant gratification, I don't have any pointers. If you want a more intelligent, deep, complex, and thrilling MMO, pick EVE.

Tried EVE too. It was too slow, and way too damn complicated. It's a game not a job. I'm supposed to pick it up and have fun. Not think, "Damn, this is work."
