Im pretty sure in the next couple of decades schoolbooks will be swapped for palm pilot type things with ultra low resolution so the text wont be so hard on the eyes. I mean seriously, I love books but their clumsy, can be heavy, with so many highly cumbersome and losable. Seems practical to, I sure wouldn't mind just re downloading my textbook from my school profile rather than fork over 50 bucks for a lost textbook.
While I agree the book will never die, our definition of "book" may change radically in the next couple of years. I'm pretty sure book readers, similar in function (but not appearance) to WiFi-MP3 players are right around the corner. Once the display is as comfortable to read as ink on paper and the interface is as convenient as turning pages, the ability to access any book you want, when you want, will outweigh our cultural bias. The technology's more or less here, so my guess is the book publishing industry doesn't want to move out of the 16th century. Book readers aren't any use if book publishers don't want to provide content.John Galt said:The book will never truly die, it's been ingrained upon our culture since the Renaissance.
Scary, you know what else is, New Zealend kids are allowed to use text terms on examsKnight Templar said:the english languge, my spelling teacher in school said "lol" is that funny or scary?

Seriously. Any more than one exclamation mark used in an unironic context is a sure sign that the author needs one of those special coats where the sleeves meet around the back.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I would kind of argue that 'lol' has become a word in it's own right. Considering our text-based social interaction world of today it becomes hard for the common person to recognise when someone is using sarcasm for example.Knight Templar said:the english languge, my spelling teacher in school said "lol" is that funny or scary?
I'm guessing you've heard of Ebooks then? *grimaces*... so unnatural!MaxTheReaper said:If the book dies, I will unleash a hellstorm upon the world, the likes of which hs not existed since the beginning of the universe.
