Supposedly, Overwatch is pretty much guaranteed to be free of paid DLC or expansions for quite some time, if not forever. I imagine they're going to focus on the 'hat money.'
Mmm, given that this is Acti-Blizz, I'm not sure I buy their assertion that all further DLC/expansions will be free. I really don't.

Doesn't mean a lot when they're both garbage.
Garbage? That's quite a statement. A subjective statement. I've had a lot of fun with the campaign and the PvE modes.

Why is it most Overwatch players feel the need to lambast Battleborn and those that play it? It's like schoolyard bullying, I swear. It's so odd. And juvenile.

But whatever. Overwatch bored me to tears within minutes, so the players are free to insult me for not liking it. I'll just be over here playing Battleborn with friends and having a blast. :/

They're both full priced games with no single player. They are both the same to me. Maybe i'll try overwatch during a bargain sale. Battleborn just makes me want to ignore it. I have no idea why. It seems to scream dreariness and unoriginality like a bag of smouldering sprouts.
Except Battleborn has single player and co-op.
On a strict technical level, Overwatch has single player and co-op <_<

Although the AI for such ranges from Target Practice - Dumb and Runs straight down the middle lane (main path, whatever you want to call it) - Ludicrous cheating aimbot (that still just runs down the main path, but is psychic and perfectly accurate), making the whole experience of the AI matches worthless even for basic practice.

As to the topic, well, Battleborn is now cheaper then Overwatch on consoles, which is amusing. Maybe the competition will push Blizzard into releasing the regular game on them, instead of their stupid edition with extras for PC games.

That's kind of funny to me as I think that is my major criticism of Overwatch. Everything I've seen and experienced from it just screams "The team behind this are creatively bankrupt". It's like they just hobbled together the basic gameplay structure of Team Fortress 2 (without the nuances), and filled the "class" roster with an eclectic hodgepodge of characters whose individual designs and aesthetics just don't quite mesh with each other. Similar to the design philosophies in League of Legends.

I guess what I'm saying is, to me Overwatch just seems like a Team Fortress 2 clone with an identity crisis.
I probably should've elaborated initially to save people coming to the defense, it is touted as "borderlands meet MOBA," except borderlands never felt fun to me until Telltale did their thing. While MOBAs are the repetitive multiplayer type that destroys my very soul after an hour or two. Different stroke for different smokes and all, so to me, the touting is being filtered into "bag of smouldering sprouts meets competitive tax return filing!!" ;) Also i have never played Team fortress 2, being a dirty console peasant for now. Have heard the console version is more like breadcrumbs off the dinner table than the actual full meal. Wasn't there some kurfuffle about Battleborn being online only, even for the single player campaign? Or have they backpedalled?

Right, because bargain sales are what Blizzard is famous for.
Well i haven't bought any of their products before, so do not know of their business practices. Only that they seem to have half the world's population under mass hypnosis for an undefined length of time.
Eternal curses! My post count of 2345 is now ruined! I have been tricked!

If it makes you feel better, I don't play Overwatch, and I think Battleborn is lambast-able.

Well, ok. I hope you bring that same skepticism to Gearbox, who claim their new heroes will be free but have charged real money for every single one of their previous DLC playable characters.

I'll be honest, I only ever enjoyed Borderlands 1. Borderlands 2 just annoyed the hell out of me. The writing somehow got even more juvenile compared to the first game. I never managed to finish it.

And beyond the first game and the Half-Life addons back-in-the-day I've never really been that keen on Gearbox's catalog. But I gotta say, Battleborn is a hell of a lot of fun. I've enjoyed playing it solo just as much as I have online with friends.

I can't say if it'll sustain me with entertainment for a long time to come, but as long as it lasts until Titanfall 2 and Infinite Warefare[footnote]Both of which I hope live up to what I'm expecting.[/footnote], I'll be happy.

As far as I know it does require an internet connection, the primary reason being that character progress is also earned through the campaign, but I've been hearing rumblings about that requirement being patched out.

That's fine. Do what you want. I just find it telling that Overwatch players seem intent on 'attacking' Battleborn and its playerbase, while Battleborn players tend to just...want to keep playing Battleborn. That's all I'm sayin'.

Of course I do. I'm no fanboy of Gearbox.

That's... not really true though. I've seen plenty of Battleborn players try to take a piss on Overwatch. Not as many, perhaps, as the opposite, but plenty.

I think it's just the math of it that makes Overwatch players look bad. If 1 person out of 1000 is going to make a stink about the other game, regardless of what game it is, then of course Battleborn is going to look like it's getting ganged up on. There are simply fewer Battleborn players.

I suppose. I've yet to see it other than from Overwatch players (take this forum, for example), but if you say you've come across it, then so be it.

:/

Regardless, makes no difference to me. I quite like Battleborn and intend to keep playing. If people wish to insult me for that, I say let them. I'm not juvenile enough to stoop to that nonsense.

AND microtransactions
What microtransactions? I know about the season pass, but I didn't see any 'microtransactions'. The Marketplace content is bought with in-game currency earned by playing matches. As far as I'm aware, you can't spend real money to get that currency.
Characters skins and maps have been announced to be upcoming microtransactions.

I think that it's awesome that they reduced the price of Battleborn, but honestly, I was planning on getting the game regardless next week.

I had many money ready to get Uncharted 4, which was a released a week after Battlebortn and after playing the demo, decided that Battleborn would be the next game I purchased after Uncharted 4. I've also played the demo for Overwatch and I also want to get that game at a much later time (maybe 2 months from now).

It sucks how some games reduce in price so drastically, especially after a very short time after its release, but you bought the game you wanted and got to enjoy it for much longer than most people who still haven't even experience it. I think that those early buyers should receive a little something for their commitment of the game via in-game items or special DLC.

You keep saying this, but so far all your posts on this subject have been combative and prickly. You've slammed Overwatch (bored to tears in minutes!) and it's players (juvenile!) while praising Battleborn (having a blast!) while suggesting its players are as pure as the driven snow (they just want to play and have fun, bless their humble hearts). This of course is utter folly...there is very little difference in the relative "quality" of any two online demographics, save when the player pools become vanishingly small. Anyone who thinks game A has a wonderful community and game B a terrible one are usually laboring under an intense confirmation bias based on their own anecdotal sample size.

It's not surprising that the two fan bases would swipe at each other...sunk cost fallacy ensures we will defend the rightness of our purchases to the death. As an MMO player from days past, this kind of "tribalism" is sadly common. The nature of the games removes the "why not both?" answer...they're too demanding in terms of time...so everyone fights like rabid dogs to promote the idea that they made the bestest, rightest choice. Their game is AMAZEBALLS. The other game BORED THEM TO TEARS IN MINUTES.

Stuff like that. =D

I just wanted to play Battleborn with friends. But apparently the internet at large couldn't allow that, so I've met with no small amount of insults and criticisms, for seemingly making the "wrong choice" in what to play.

Please forgive me for wanting to vent my frustration in a discussion on the topic. I don't want to displease the Guppy.

Have Overwatch fans actually prevented you from playing Battleborn with friends? Did they storm your house and smash your console/PC with Overwatch-branded bats? Or did they...how did you put it...simply make some "mildly snide remarks", instigated by the same tribalism you're displaying here when you suggest playing a game for minutes "bored you to tears", and suggested the people playing it were "juvenile"?

I mean, you're welcome to vent. This isn't your blog, though, so don't be surprised if your venting is perceived as the exact kind of encamped hostility you're purporting to criticize.

They came out way too close to Overwatch. They should of found a release date that didn't compete with Overwatch. Then again Battleborn just didn't really appeal to me in the slightest. The biggest thing is that there was no real art direction to it.

All the characters just look like they belong in another game with another aesthetic style. None of them stand out in any meaningful way. And if they did, Gearbox sure didn't advertise them as a poster child for the game.

Personally the only game I'm looking forward to now that Overwatch is out is Gigantic. But Microsoft really took a big shit on that game when they initially announced it as being a Windows 10 and Xbox One only game. Hopefully their partnership with that other company that has common sense will give it the attention it deserves. I really love the art direction and designs going on in that game.

Anyone else kind of glad Battleborn is failing?

I mean... the original Borderlands was -and is- one of my GOAT games. But since then, Gearbox has been shitting out downright awful and/or completely broken games. I kinda feel like if they take this kick in the nuts, maybe they'll learn something from the experience and make better games in the future.

You're right. I should never have chimed in on the discussion to voice my frustrations. I mean, like you said, it's not like some Overwatch players broke into my house and beat me with blunt objects. So I clearly had no right to speak my mind.

Thank you for correcting me, Guppy. I'm glad someone who's never once vented their frustration on this forum could guide me back to the right path.

Thank you, senpai.

At no point did anyone tell you that "you had no right to speak your mind". You seem to be taking umbrage at relatively innocuous statements.

The point of the exercise is to underline your own visible behavior, and suggest that if you go around talking shit and being ultra-tribal about your game of choice, you are going to invite similar behavior. Let's take a look at your body of work just in this thread:

There's just something about Overwatch that just...I suppose the best way to describe it is that it did nothing for me. Every time I loaded it up to play it felt like I was forcing myself to do so.

I'm not quite sure what it is. I don't think it's the character designs, though they do feel disjointed. It wasn't really the gameplay, though, while solid, it wasn't really that entertaining.

I don't know. I guess, as a package, Overwatch just bored me. It just feels...dull.

And then finally chip in with:

Why is it most Overwatch players feel the need to lambast Battleborn and those that play it? It's like schoolyard bullying, I swear. It's so odd. And juvenile.
Notably, this is only the 2nd individual in the thread to say anything openly hostile about Battleborn. The first person to say something hostile about EITHER game was...drum roll...you.

Now before you get out your crying hanky and claim I'm censoring your ability to "speak your mind", I don't give a heavy bag of farts which game you like or dislike, or your reasons for doing so. By all means, savage Overwatch and Blizzard if that fits your fancy. I was just pointing out the IRONY of whinging about "juvenile people" taking pot shots at your game and somehow preventing your enjoyment of it when you came into the thread swinging and never really stopped. Taking pot shots at rival games seems to be right in your wheelhouse.
