This makes me sad.

Who is this marketed to? I mean, its based off a gameshow that clearly is not going to be known by kids of the appropriate age for this...is this to get some parents to drag their kids?

It looks awful.

Also fuck Fallout Boy.

Here's where the trailer confuses me becaused I think its a TV movie on the Nickalodeon channel.

It does not have the MPAA notices.

Ya know, I knew it was likely a TV movie, but as I entered mini-rant mode, I forgot halfway.

I was immediately distracted by the fact that a hot dog vendor watched as three kids climbed over a fence and disappeared into the wilderness. I don't know why they would bother spending money to make a movie out of this but this is Nickelodeon we're talking about; these are the people who made more than one live-action Fairly Oddparents Movie for crying out loud. This is probably just going to be another forgettable blip on the timeline that is 'Nickelodeon movie releases'. Not a Rugrats First Movie but also not a Fred: The Movie either.

I will admit its not the worse looking thing I have seen. Especially in comparison to that Fairly Odd Parents movie with Drake Bell....."shudders" they choose George Costanza as Cosmo and Cheryl Hines as Wanda?

'cause Nostalgia, amirite?
Kirk and the Shrine of the Silver Monkey is one big nostalgia hammer in the face.

Now they better have the Crypt, the Pit, the King's Storeroom, Chamber of the Sacred Markers, Room of the Secret Password, Pharorh's Secret Passage, Dark Forest, Jester's Court, and the Tomb of the Headless Kings.

And yes I know all that by memory.

The best way to respond to this is to get people to simply not watch it, since the decision is yours and yours alone

Wouldn't something like Indiana Jones be the more appropriate analogy?

Anyway, looks like something for kids. That's fine. Good for them. It's Nickalodean, kids are the majority of their audience. In the words of Blade Runner, "move on. Move on."

Jimminy Jilickers. That was a mean thing to say. Radioactive Man needs Fallout Boy.
I just got super angry a minute ago (at something else). This made me feel better.

At this point I expect Nick to defile the things I love.
Looks bad in general and I think it could actually do really well if they had put effort into it along with going theatrical and making it all make some sense. To itself, at least.

Or speaking of male music groups up there, would you say to... move along, move along?

Hey now, that movie wasn't bad!

I think...

Um...

Actually all I remember was that Harriet wore a yellow rain jacket or something... and I think she had a journal with the cover being one of those black and white weird chaotic pattern notebook covers? You know the ones...

I don't even need to watch the trailer. Why make a movie out of this? Especially a cheap TV movie.

While the idea could be done right, I think there are other IPs that would do it better, like Uncharted, Tomb Raider, or Indiana Jones. They also have the boon of being relevant.

I could have gotten behind the idea of making a Legends of the Hidden Temple game show, but this just reeks of desperation and having no original ideas. But why am I surprised? How many classic 80's films have studios tried to remake or reboot in the last ten years?

I guess we can look forward to reboots of Hercules and Xena in the next ten years.

Ha ha, come on now, I know Nickelodeon has been grasping at straws since the sloping decline of Spongebob's popularity, but you don't need to go and exaggerate like that.

...

Oh...

Yeah, the show this is based off of is almost as old as I am so I don't know who the hell they're trying to aim this towards. I guess Nick is getting so desperate for attention now that their two biggest series are either done or so crap no one care that they're using any and all IP they still have. I will say though that I did laugh at the silver monkey joke as it was always funny to me that no one could get that stupid thing right on their first try.
