Well...how much jello wrestling are we talking here?Johnny Novgorod said:I hope they don't give Wonder Woman a female villain to fight. Like how Catwoman was a lady, so she has to fight Sharon Stone in a make-up factory, yeah?
Eh, Cheetah was one of WW's recurring villainesses, and I thought she was cool, or at least when she was a big scary were-animal, and not a naked woman with spots.Johnny Novgorod said:I hope they don't give Wonder Woman a female villain to fight. Yeah, it would be so much cooler to see Wonder Woman get in a violent face-punching contest with a male villain than a female one.Johnny Novgorod said:I hope they don't give Wonder Woman a female villain to fight. Exactly this. It's precisely why I can't help but roll my eyes and sigh whenever creators try to be politically correct (not chalking this case up to that, I just mean in general), because you can never succeed if your aim is to not offend anyone. This is why I appreciate and think more Western creators should emulate Japan with their "objectification material for everyone" and "no fucks given" policies.MeatMachine said:Yeah, it would be so much cooler to see Wonder Woman get in a violent face-punching contest with a male villain than a female one.Johnny Novgorod said:I hope they don't give Wonder Woman a female villain to fight. Still, people are going to find something to complain about. Wonder Woman getting hurt by a man? Misogyny for the abuse of a woman. Wonder Woman getting hurt by a woman? Misogyny for condescending her below men. Classic Wonder Woman outfit? Objectification. New spandex bits to cover up her legs and chest? Slutshaming.
If the reaction to her character is mostly positive, rather than failing to meet the impossible and eternally contradicting standards feminism imposes, I will be sincerely impressed.
I don't mean to turn this news into more topics on feminism (god only knows there's been plenty of that already,) but with Wonder Woman, it's kinda difficult to avoid.LysanderNemoinis said:Exactly this. Because we all know how often male superheroes get to fight female villains who aren't femme fatales or henchwomen. At least if WW fights a woman, we'd have a female antagonist who's the big bad in her own right.LysanderNemoinis said:Exactly this. The Lasso also has far deeper powers than making someone speak the truth. She once caused a Nazi to suffer a breakdown by making him face the truth about himself.Happyninja42 said:I just hope they give her a combat style with the lasso that looks badass. I'm reminded of that scene in Iron Man 2, where Black Widow whips out this fiber cord and starts trussing up that guy with it. I could totally see a combat style like that working really well with Wonder Woman. Or something similar to the ball/chain combat style from Kill Bill, just minus the ball.
Hmm, actually, what rope based fighting styles do you people know about that would actually look cool with Wonder Woman? And I'm not talking about stuff that just gives an excuse for her to be all sexy and bendy, but a legit fighting style, incorporating a length of rope to confound/ensnare your opponent? I don't know of any by name, but I'm curious what styles they might use for the movie.
I remember seeing some anime/cartoons that had characters using ropes tied to stuff in combat, but can't think of any specific examples off the top of my head.Happyninja42 said:I just hope they give her a combat style with the lasso that looks badass. Doubt it would make it into Wonder Woman given how strongly it evokes its wushu origins, but if you've ever seen Shanghai Noon, Jackie Chan's character ties a horseshoe to a length of rope to make a rudimentary rope dart.Happyninja42 said:I just hope they give her a combat style with the lasso that looks badass.
