Ok, I was just having a nap and I never have nightmares usually, maybe once a year if I'm unlucky...

I'm sat here typing this, still dripping in sweat and shaking, I literally jumped out of bed, yelled out for somebody in the dream, calmed down and came online to stay awake.

Now I've sat here trying to recall it, I can't remember anything about this dream at all, only that it was really horrible. I can usually remember them crystal clear as soon as I wake up, after that they just fade away.

So Escapists, what's the worst nightmare you have had, if you can remember it?

I had a few nightmares where I was in a room full of bugs, and a few where the world was instantly destroyed. Probably the worst nightmare I've had in a while was where I was in a room full of alien bugs, and when I jammed them in an oven to kill them off some aliens got pissed and came down and destroyed the world.

My advice, don't sleep in a room that's too hot if you can help it. That's pretty much the only time when I have nightmares.

I don't get any truly terrifying nightmares (just an occasional barrage of falling/burning to death.)

I did however once have a lucid dream about a relationship with a woman. It seriously screwed with my head when I woke up and realized she never existed. What even more bizarre is I still have memories of her planted by the dream.

I remember having a nightmare about selling our family home and showing these people around and finding my mum drowned in the pool. My mum is petrified of water so it was even worse because of that. I remember waking up screaming, in tears. I have never forgotten that nightmare.

I used to get nightmares pretty frequently, but I haven't had one in years. The worst, and also strangest one I can remember, happened when I was around 4 or 5 years old.

I walked in to an area of the basement that I NEVER went in to when I was younger (my xbox is there now, so I go there pretty much daily), and I saw this strange machine that looked like a bunch of hoses and wiring hooked up to a clear trash can with a piston inside it. The piston moved up and down, causing two fuzzy toilet seat covers to move like a mouth. It said, and this is exactly as I remember it "a lappin down the sutchins", and a huge tongue came out and chased me until I woke up. Weird.

Strangely enough I've never had a nightmare. Had some very strange dreams but never a true nightmare. I'm very glad about that.

I've had several rather disturbig nightmares, when I was younger. Have had some weird ones recently, but those were more weird than scary.

I've once dreamt I was being eaten by a wolf, on the North/South Pole, while my parents were having the time of their life, while being able to hear me scream, on a sleigh pulled by reindeer and steered by Santa. I didn't trust my parents for quite a while after that, and I'm still wondering if the symbolism was trying to tell me my parents are indeed uncaring, or if I'm severely messed up in the head.

I'm hoping for both to be untrue.

I rarely remember dreams, so the only nightmare I can remember is one that seems to be recurring.
The only times I have experienced this nightmare seems to be when I've had colds.

I am in a room of some sort. I can't remember many details, aside from the floor being checkered, black and white and shiny. I can not recall there being any walls; just an empty void.

In this room there are a lot of objects of various sizes lying around. For no apparent reason I am lifting these and carrying them to another part of the room. The thing is that even though some of the objects I carry are really large, they seem really light; the weight of the different objects does not seem to correlate to their sizes. Then, at some point, I lift something that's just the size of a grain of sand (actually it seems to be one), and carry it on the tip of my little finger; but it turns out to feel really heavy (still I manage to lift it just fine, it just feels strange).
At this point I normally wake up with a horrible sensation of a strange force pressing down on my hand.

It is not scary in any way; it just feels terrible.

My room has been like a sauna all day, I think that's why I fell asleep.

I've had a couple of dreams about people that I really cared for and still remember them exactly. Shame they never existed. :(

Also, has anyone ever dreamed about something before it happened? This happens to me frequenly. Nothing major like predicting the BP oil spill or 9/11-7/7... but just every day things. Then a few days or weeks later when they happen, my brain tells me I'm having deja vu and I remember the dream. It's creepy and brilliant all at the same time. Maybe I am psychic?

I don't remember the dream, but when I woke up my mattress was slanted against the wall, my wardrobe doors were open (when I went to sleep with them shut), my lamp was smashed, my glass of water spilled and the glass under the bed, I had lost my shirt and had my head on the floor with my legs up against the wall with my feet in the air. I woke up crying and to this day I don't know what the hell I was dreaming about.

When I think about it I feel scared, as I remember looking around at the chaos that had manifested itself in my room (presumably by me) while I was lost in my sleep.

The only one that truly terrified me was one I had when I was really young. Dudley the Dragon and a Talking Tree were planning to eat me. >_>

Since then, I've had a different take on nightmares. I like them, as they are like my own personal horror movies. ^_^

Every time I get a nightmare, it's always zombies. It always scares me to the point where it takes about an hour to get back to sleep.

I suffer chronic nightmares. Many still resonate with me after years but the ones that do most are ones where there is mass death (like war or end of the world type stuff), someone is hurt by my mistakes or when I lose someone close to me for whatever reason (they may just leave and not die). I also dream that my cats get out a lot and either run away or are killed.
