My advice, don't sleep in a room that's too hot if you can help it. That's pretty much the only time when I have nightmares.
My room has been like a sauna all day, I think that's why I fell asleep.

I don't get any truly terrifying nightmares (just an occasional barrage of falling/burning to death.)

I did however once have a lucid dream about a relationship with a woman. It seriously screwed with my head when I woke up and realized she never existed. What even more bizarre is I still have memories of her planted by the dream.
I've had a couple of dreams about people that I really cared for and still remember them exactly. Shame they never existed. :(

Also, has anyone ever dreamed about something before it happened? This happens to me frequenly. Nothing major like predicting the BP oil spill or 9/11-7/7... but just every day things. Then a few days or weeks later when they happen, my brain tells me I'm having deja vu and I remember the dream. It's creepy and brilliant all at the same time. Maybe I am psychic?

This happens to me too! I actually sometimes dream about seeing things on tv the next day, like that one girl that got kidnapped and held in a shed a few months back. I remember it too. I woke up and was like, what the fuck? Then I saw the news.... I also once remembered the answers to an exam in class! Sadly, I saw my grandma in a dream one night, only to find out she had passed away that night. I am glad I am not the only one this happens to, and would like to hear if anyone else has this occur to them.

Worst nightmare?
Flying ice-cream pushcarts attacked the city and I had to cram everyone inside a telephone booth.

Next worst?
Had something to do with a water park, ghosts, Yoda, and kittens.

[emo]I don't have these kinds of dreams anymore. Now that I'm mature, all my nightmares end with her leaving me.[/emo] :D

I've had a few about being inexplicably paralyzed and or unable to breathe. I don't remember what they were, but I know they've happened more than once in different dreams.

I had one that was following some sort of WWIII theme I saw all my loved ones each butchered in horrific ways.

I don't remember much about it, but it had something to do with giant rodents chasing me around while I was trying to blast them to pieces with various weapons. For some reason, the weapons did not seem to do anything at all, and the chase just kept going on.

I've had two really scary ones

The first one was one of those creepy houses with a doll in the attic, like a cliche horro film. The freaky thing was I got chased out the house by this doll wielding a kitchen knife and I woke up AND SHE WAS STANDING OVER ME ABOUT TO CUT MY HEAD OFF! I was fully awake too it must've been a hallucination but I have never screamed so loudly in my life.

2nd one I was dreaming about driving (I can't actually drive by the by) so it's the urban myth thing with a guy in the back. I crash the car, he lops my head off and I feel the axe cut into me and then I felt my head on the dashboard rolling about and I could feel the blood pumping out of my neck and I knew I was gonna die and then I started saying "if you die in your dreams you never wake up, if you day in your dreams you never wake up" like a mantra and just as my vision went blurry I woke up. That's the most vivid one I've ever had...

on another note I have deja vu dreams nearly every week :D one time I dreamed a whole school day so when I woke up I was convinced I'd just gone to bed and I went back to sleep. I was very late to school that day XP

Haven't had many since i was about 12. But i always liked them. Maybe i'm a bit coocoo. Like i remember one, from when i was 10 or something, where a coca-cola sun(the mascot) got progressively bigger and was trying to find me, i was hiding from him.

Even when i wake up sweaty, sometimes shaking, i always look back and think, that was an awesome dream.
Most of them end with me dieing, suddenly everything goes black and i feel odd, almost at peace, and i wake up.
In short, dreams are awesome.

My worst and favorite Nightmare... yes, Favorite Nightmare.

Standing in a dark room, unable to move, and some doctor lady, standing in front of me, removing my guts, and I could see the whole thing in the mirror behind the doctor... kinda freaky no?

There is a small hill in the back of my neighbor's house, which I could see from my window when I was a little kid (about 7 y/o). I used to have a recurring dream about that hill that made me scared of even looking at it at night.

The details are confusing, of course, but there was some creature sleeping under the hill, and someday it would wake up and it would be the end of the world. In the dream, I would look up and see strange purple lights coming from the ground on that hill, accompanied by an electric buzzing. Not once did the creature actually wake up, but the sense of menace in those dreams was overwhelming for my seven-year-old mind.

Now imagine my surprise when I read The Call of Cthulhu years later...

Another one that stuck in my mind -- and even more strongly than the first, because I was twenty-three when I had it -- was one about a carnival ride that was kinda like a "ghost train". I don't know how it's called in English, or if it even exists outside of Brazil, but it's exactly what it sounds like: you ride a car into a dark tunnel and fake ghosts and monsters jump out at you during the ride. Except that, in my dream, what there was inside that tunnel was a series of death traps, one for each passenger of the car. The ride always ended with the car empty, everyone having been killed, one by one, during the course.

What was horrible about that dream was that it seemed extremely real, unlike any other I've ever had, and also the fact that we were all paying voluntarily to go in the ride knowing perfectly well what it was. There was a feeling of depression, of defeat, about that dream, like that was the only thing for us to do. When my seat was ejected and I broke my neck, the feeling was incredibly real, and I didn't wake up immediately like it always happens when I die in dreams. The experience was so intense that I wrote a short story based on it, and everyone who read that was disturbed (or so they told me, maybe to please my ego...).

most of my "nightmares" aren't really that scary because I'm a semi-lucid dreamer, so I can usually control what's happening to a certain degree. Like I remember one dream a while ago (after playing lots of L4D) I was in a situation where I was being chased by zombies and I went up this short tree which was pretty much a dead end, so I remember consciously deciding to turn the tables and I grabbed the nearest zombie and started eating her face which actually felt quite empowering.

I don't really have nightmares that much, and when I do they aren't very extreme. Certainly not something that made me jump up and scream or anything. I've had some dreams where my girlfriend's cheated on me or something like that. I dunno, I guess the ones I have are quite sad..

Oh wait no there's sometimes dreams where I get attacked by a cat, and the cats pretty big standing up. It's sort of scary but at the same time I can take it on.

Googling these dreams reveals that I am insecure and that I should worry about enemies pretending to be friends.. I like how one of them is like "you're being insecure" and the other one is like "be more insecure!"

I have a recurring nightmare wherein i am just running down a dark hall that never seems to end for apparently no reason. Maybe I just keep forgetting what I'm running from?

The scariest ones I've had are.

Being sowed to the carpet and having my lips sown by, a group of stuffed animals.

I woke up panting and screaming.

Also another nightmare, that ended with me waking up panting and screaming, is when I dreamt I was suffering a certain torture scene, from the anime Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni.

The nail ripping scene, the pain was well I can't describe it exactly but lets just say for a dream it was intense. Also I could see Shion in the corner of the room clutching her bloody hand in pain.

I had a dream that my guy was killed outside his place of work and that I couldn't get to him to help. Woke up crying.

It's not the worst I've had, but its the most recent one I remember.

Ok, I was just having a nap and I never have nightmares usually, maybe once a year if I'm unlucky...

I'm sat here typing this, still dripping in sweat and shaking, I literally jumped out of bed, yelled out for somebody in the dream, calmed down and came online to stay awake.

Now I've sat here trying to recall it, I can't remember anything about this dream at all, only that it was really horrible. I can usually remember them crystal clear as soon as I wake up, after that they just fade away.

So Escapists, what's the worst nightmare you have had, if you can remember it?
A few things I can remember fairly vividly and can interpret to various things about myself... I really really rarely have nightmares.

If you must know though, my most common ones have been: Falling of a snowy ledge, down, through ice, and into freezing water where I sink; and Where I used to live for like 8 years, but I would be outside - nearby enough... it would be late and I would be running at full speed back to the apartment with either something or just darkness chasing me - sometimes I made it in, sometimes not :S strange.

I can't recall any nightmares, but I hope to have a bad, disturbing, twisted one sometime. It would probably change me a bit, and change is always interesting.

The only thing mildly uncomfortable I can recall, is a dream where my then current crush had her heart broken by an unknown character from her past, and then ran away. I was really good friends with this girl, and the feeling of helplessness I had was quite frustrating / overpowering. You see, I could do absolutely nothing to bring her back, and she was completely crushed, so I could only stand back, and hope she wouldn't kill herself.

dreams are just a dmt trip. A nightmare I can remember was just last night when somehow I killed a mom and her daughter and I was going through the process of being prosecuted for it. I never even remembered doing the act but all there was was the reality of spending the rest of my life in prison and disappointing and being separated from the ones I love. I hate it when bad dreams seems so real!
