I believe the reasons in this article are wrong. The article claims that people don't finish the game they are playing because of distractions. I have a different theory, With me I don't Finish games because there is nothing more for me to gain by finishing it. For Example, I recently played alpha protocol (I loved the game play, please don't flame me) but when I got to the end,I was like "Ehhhh, I don't feel like fighting through all of these enemies and I don't really care how it ends". Actually most games I play I dont finish, I just take them up to the last mission or so and then quit. My reasons are simple. 1.) I don't gain anything, I already have the best guns etc. 2.) I wasn't playing for the story and its just blahhhh, 3.) I beat it once and im playing it again for the content I missed ie. Fallout 3/ Fallout: New Vegas.
When I finish a game, its usually because I WANT to know how it ends. The article blames the easy target, the gamers. I believe the culprit is game design.
What are your views? Do you finish Games? What makes you finish games? When do you quit? What games haven't you finished?

My most notworthy unfinished games
Half life One. I quit on the mission just before the last, the game just got too hard
Portal 2. I want to like it, I loved portal 1, I LOVE cave johnson. I even love glados. I just cant bring myself to finish this game.
Assassins Creed 2, I'm probably 70% done, but Stabbing people in the face just got old. I didnt even understand the story, (not that I tried to) so I really just didn't care about it.

I've beaten everything I own. (Except Demon's Souls because that game is a product of Satan)

I only don't finish rental games if I just get bored of them.

i am with you on this, i never finished pop two thrones because the boss fight against the glowing floating something sucked ass and i did not expect the game to surprise me in the story department. I also sometimes don't finish games because while i don't buy used games i am big into renting them and if something stops me from finishing it in the time i planned for that i will not try again unless the game is really awesome in which case i will buy it.

I don't really like to leave games unfinished. Even if I don't really enjoy it that much, I tend to persevere and try to finish it. There are some games that I've stopped playing without finishing, but they are rare.

This is probably because I'm a completionist. This is made much harder in the current generation because of achievements; there is a record that I haven't finished something, that just mocks me every time I see it. So I feel compelled to finish games.

I try to finish everything I buy. I do have a few games that I haven't beaten and haven't played for a while, but I intend to get back to them eventually. For example, I just recently finished Witcher after a few months pause.

There's one game that I never finished and don't have anymore (I didn't buy it myself), and I really want to get it againg to beat it.

I usually finish almost all of the games I play, it just takes about 6 months because I always try to work on 10 at a time for some reason. Some games take even longer if I get bored with them, like Bioshock. I try to still chip away at them though. I also tend to stop playing games for a couple weeks because I like them so much that I don't want to finish them. I'm weird like that.

I beat every game I have. If I don't finish one, it's because the game sucks, in which case, game gets deleted and sold. The games I haven't finished...hm.

"Dungeons and Dragons Daggerdale". It was just a waste of time. The level cap was tiny and the campaign was not as epic as D&D usually promises. I was playing it in co-op too and making jabs and jokes about it (making it more fun) and we still never got to the end. Fable 3. There are probably more but I can't remember them.

I haven't finished a lot of my games recently, and that's mostly because I have waaaay too many games to play. All of my console games I've finished, but all of the Steam games I've gathered up... hah.

It's a lot harder to finish a game once you've build up a huge library of unplayed games. I just think "Why should I dedicate my next 10+ hours to this game when I could play something else?"

This. But sometimes I take a break from gaming all together and focus on something else, then I get back to the games.

I always try to finish up my games. You can't call yourself a gamer if you haven't completed the game even once.

Took me months to finish fallout 3 like that never wanted it to end so just kep going on and doing random stuff instead of finishing it.

I will try and finish everything I own but not to 100% and alot of the time I stop games after doing some then go back months later, it's rare I will trade them in without at least the main story done unless the game really pissed me off or it was too hard.

If I get bored of a game, I tend to play something else for a while, then come back to the game to give it another go. I've done that a few times and when I came back to the first game, I found that I actually did like it after all.

I usually finish the games I own (at least the AAA stuff), except when I get sidetracked with something else (be it simply more fun or actually important). Even an extended hiatus from a game doesn't mean I won't finish it; recently, for example, I finished Red Dead Redemption, which had been sitting on my shelf for over a year. Now, to get through Final Fantasy XIII...
Anyway, the cases where I don't finish a game are mostly either rentals that turn out to be horrendously bad, or cheap indie games I pick up via Steam and turn out to be just not my cup of tea.

I get sidetracked a lot so I have many games in my backlog. I'm currently working through Fallout New Vegas and probably could complete the main story, but first I intend on going through the DLC. After that, I'll go back to my backlog. Maybe I can keep from screwing around long enough to actually finish GTA4.

Well, I plan to finish every game I own, but when it starts feeling like a chore, it's time to put it down for a while.

Except Fable 3. Fuck Fable.
