You may disagree with the reasons for your own reason to not finish something, but they are the most common reasons. Personally a finish a lot of what I play, sometimes multiple times, but the one genre I always struggle with is open world. I've only beaten GTA3, never finishing RDR or GTA4 (or any of the GTA3 side sequels). Nor have I had the drive to finish New Vegas, though that is in part due to how much FO3 I played. (read: A LOT) The main thing that stops me from finishing a game is either annoyance or boredom. If some aspect of the game irritates me, or the game just doesn't pull me in the way I believe it should, I won't finish it. And likely will never even return to it. Even games I like, like Super Meat Boy. It's a good game, but sometimes it's too vindictive for me to care. I will never be one of the insane people that can get Impossible Boy or anything, so can't be bothered.

This definitely doesn't apply to me. I have beaten every game I set out to do so with, with only a few rare exceptions.

I have usually finished all the games i own. It seems odd to me people wouldnt.

Of course there are exceptions, usually if the game doesnt have anything to capture my attention, but I make sure to finish all my games.

I've finished all my 360 games besides Crysis 2, which I only bought yesterday, and Bioshock 2, which I go on and off with.

I finnish about 95% of my game's even if they are bad. I like to see how the story ends and stuff, I care as much about story as gameplay so not finishing is like watching only half a movie

I'm playing Diablo 2 on Hell, I'm not sure I can be bothered finishing it. What does it mean?!

I generally tend to finish my games, mostly because I buy games for their story. But the games I haven't finished include:

Banjo Kazooie
Every GTA ever
Darksiders

Distractions are a good reason on my end, used to have very few games and I finished every single one just to get every last drop out of it, now I got stacks and if they don't quite measure up to others I will most likely leave it be.
But if a good game comes up I will still do spontaneous allnighters when it pulls me in, then suffer sleep deprivation for the next few days, but I will do so with a grin on my face.

One of those 9 in 10.

I may stop playing and continue to the next game, as soon as I have figured out how to play a game well. If the game isn't way above average or has alot of complexity, I may get bored with it.

I believe the reasons in this article are wrong. The article claims that people don't finish the game they are playing because of distractions. I have a different theory, With me I don't Finish games because there is nothing more for me to gain by finishing it. For Example, I recently played alpha protocol (I loved the game play, please don't flame me) but when I got to the end,I was like "Ehhhh, I don't feel like fighting through all of these enemies and I don't really care how it ends". Actually most games I play I dont finish, I just take them up to the last mission or so and then quit. My reasons are simple. 1.) I don't gain anything, I already have the best guns etc. 2.) I wasn't playing for the story and its just blahhhh, 3.) I beat it once and im playing it again for the content I missed ie. Fallout 3/ Fallout: New Vegas.
When I finish a game, its usually because I WANT to know how it ends. The article blames the easy target, the gamers. I believe the culprit is game design.
What are your views? Do you finish Games? What makes you finish games? When do you quit? What games haven't you finished?

My most notworthy unfinished games
Half life One. I quit on the mission just before the last, the game just got too hard
Portal 2. I want to like it, I loved portal 1, I LOVE cave johnson. I even love glados. I just cant bring myself to finish this game.
Assassins Creed 2, I'm probably 70% done, but Stabbing people in the face just got old. I didnt even understand the story, (not that I tried to) so I really just didn't care about it.
Firstly, I have a question. Is it an adolescent thing to say "I'm being blamed for this! Somebody stop that man!" or is it just an Escapist thing? Because I've been noticing it quite a bit lately. The article said simply that about 10-20% of gamers actually finish a game, and offered as possible reasons that people have real shit to do besides sit in front of their TV and that there's other electronic media out there. Who's being blamed for anything?

I find it odd that you play a game "to get the biggest gun." To each his/her own, I guess, but I play a game to get to the end and kick the big boss's ass, to accomplish the goal of the game, to "win." I don't think there's anything wrong with the design of a game simply because it's on a long list of games you don't feel like finishing, for reasons such as "it got too hard" or "I didn't understand the story." If you want to blame game design, why not identify what you feel is wrong with the design, and offer some alternatives?

i am with you on this, i never finished pop two thrones because the boss fight against the glowing floating something sucked ass and i did not expect the game to surprise me in the story department. I also sometimes don't finish games because while i don't buy used games i am big into renting them and if something stops me from finishing it in the time i planned for that i will not try again unless the game is really awesome in which case i will buy it.
This is really bad. I've played all the way through this game 3 times and I'm trying to figure out what the "glowing floating thing" is. Do you mean the El Mariach- the Majaraja?

Sometimes I finish games, sometimes not. The number one reason to abort playing games is when a bug or flaw in design kills me or whatever and I have to do lots of stuff again (i.e I recently well trough solid ground in Firewarrior (I know thats old) and had to re-do like 20 minutes of gameplay. That bores me.

FF7 for PC comes to mind, got the the volcano bit right at the end, but as I'd seen the ending watching a friend play, I didn't have any inclination to do it myself.

The same applies to a lot of games I've not finished,
Assumed effort > Desire to finish it.

Other times I'll just get distracted by something, and by the time I get back to it I'd have forgotten most of the plot and how to play the game XD

Thing is, games are something you do in your spare time, and there's an ever-growing selection of them, so if you don't finish a game while you're 'into it', you're not going to get time to do it later.

I've beaten every game I own, and every game I've ever rented. I rent at least once a week or at least once a fortnight, if there's nothing in or new out.

I finish a lot more games than I used to. I think this is mostly because games are much easier now and provides less play time. Some of my best gaming experiences are actually going back to old unfinished games and trying them out again with a fresh perspective.

The article assumes that it's a bad thing not to finish a game. I strongly disagree.

Never beat the final boss in Metroid Hunters as it was really tough and it wasn't like there was a story I was dying to see the end of. By large though quiting before finishing a game is rare for me.

Edit: Oh right, didn't beat Dragon Quest/Warrior 3 for the same reason.
