Good on Nintendo for clarifying, and for calling GamerGate out as a hate campaign.

It's not that surprising for Quinn to jump at shadows considering everything that happened to her, so I can't say I blame her in that regard.

But do people like this Zoe Quinn not see maybe why they get so much hate?
If people can still support Hitler and Sarkeesan then yeah, probably.

....Sorry, still can't seem to embed a tweet properly so a link is the best I can do.
Ah, cheers. Just looked up her twitter feed to see if maybe she had a separate apology or some kind, but nope (unless it's buried in a thread).

To be fair after the shit she's gone through I wouldn't blame her for being--- over-sensitive, let's say. But I hope after her 'twitter hiatus' she does post that video and addresses it more sensibly.

...also: fuck social media/Twitter. Having random nomarks just talk shit about you on your own feed it just all kinds of horrible.

Dunno if it's a hate campaign. Could be now. I really haven't followed it. Personally I only cared about the journalistic stuff. But not just gaming journalism so I guess I'm not part of it?

Wait, wait, a attention seeking person was lying on the internet about being harassed in order to get attention? Woah, no fucking way! I don't believe Zoe would do something like that. It's not like she was caught several times lying about being harassed so that we have any reason to mistrust her.
Damn you Ms. Family Friendly Video Game company, damn you for making jokes that obviously aren't family friendly!

Seriously, fuck Zoe. No reason to believe anything that comes form her. If she told me the sky is blue I would look up just in case to see what the hell is going on up there.

I'm already regretting this, but who the hell is Zoe Quinn?
Which rock have you been sitting under?

Also, is there perchance room for two beneath your rock? It sounds lovely. Do you get decent internet under there?

God how DARE Nintendo make a reference to Watergate? Do they not know how terrible that event was to poor dicky?

I tip my hat to you ser, many, many times.

Personally i find it quite strange that a company who mainly targets children as their userbase references events from the 70s. Even the 80s fans would find that quite a strange referance to make.

Huh, I wouldn't have thought it was to do with her.

OTOH, interesting to see people claiming that she isn't widely hated in a somewhat counterproductive way.

Heh, I guess gamergate's PR department never quite convinced Nintendo they weren't an "online hate campaign".

As for the game's script; I don't know enough about Watergate or Zoe's kerfuffle to comment, but it'd have been nice to see all the dialogue in its sequence as opposed to two apparently individual lines spliced together.
Being in Japan and all, I don't even think Nintendo ever bothered to look into this.

She's a professional victim who's crying for attention because people were forgetting her. Just ignore and move along.

The joke was about the Nixon Watergate Scandal.
I thought it was about the memetic mutation of calling everything remotely approaching controversy Gate. Outside of Gamergate, we had Fifagate, Toiletgate, Shirtgate, Doritogate, Bendgate, Celebgate, Hairgate, Panamagate, Troopergate. The wikipedia page has over 150 references (some of them are beyond petty), and I pretty sure that list is not extensive enough...

One would argue all of them are indirect references to Watergate, but I think it is more likely the translator are more familiar with the fad than the scandal that originated it.

Wow, people overreacting to "gate" now?
Without the headline, I would of thought it be something else than the Gamergate.

LoL, Not everything is about you Zoe Quinn. Nintendo devs might has suck in the occasional penis's in the their games but if they where going to poke fun at her it would not be that obvious. This is just s throw back to the original "Gate" scandal. Any body ever wonder what the scandals now days would be called if the Watergate had not happened at the Watergate?

Quinn realised nobody talked about her and decided to stir up some faux-drama.
Admittedly, for me this lead to schadenfreude.

It's what you get when ANY controversy is called something-gate, shit gets confusing. Zoe probably just jumped to a conclusion 'cos it was such a big thing in her life.

People aren't always vindictive and looking to get the spotlight back on them or whatever else people are probably accusing her of, it is easy to see how she could have jumped to that conclusion.

On the other hand, it could just be that ... finding a way to be relevant again.

Also had a reference to the book, and 5 burglers where involved in the scandal(5 fun guys).

I assume the original, Japanese, joke might have been a joke about a Japanese politician, so the American localization turned into an American politics joke.
