Now why would anyone want to play a game which offers no challenge or no immersion??
The element you seem to be missing is "fun".

...if you'd like, I could probably hunt down a youtube link and have Spongebob explain the concept to you...

I really think Nintendo should ditch console gaming altogether and focus on Handhelds only.

Their handheld stuff is always great. Their console stuff? Not so much.

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

I go to eat a burger, and 3DS goes into detail!
What's Calumon's opinion, btw? Or is he eating and has his mouth full?
Actually Calumon is watching the Kirby gameplay again. The Mon loves that Pink Ball.

Calumon: I just think Kirb's cute is all. :3
Aaaa, poke-love, that's sooo cute.
Just be careful to be safe! 'Cause that's how we can prevent those new pokemon generations from getting fucked-up and mutated.

OT: I don't own anything Nintendo; I can even say Mario bores me sometimes. But this press coverage just blew my mind away(not because it was spectacular, but because Nintendo seem to be the only people knowing what to do, and the only people that seem to have a plan other than:"petty tiger and fakey motion controlery stuff that goes *blup*")

Sorry about that rant there; just got distracted, that;s all.
*cough*Digimon*cough*

I don't even know what Kirby is..

I hope for them that they have something to fight Natal(BECAUSE IT IS CALLED NATAL NOT KINECT) or else their entire market will be soon gone(with the exception of DS's)
They have had the market in their control ever since they released the Wii. Natal will have to give the user free cookies and massages if it even wants to have a go at nintendo. Besides, someone told me a new zelda and metroid might be announced today, along with new pokemon Black and White details. Sounds more exciting then Microsofts in my opinion.
Wii has a motion controller. Natal has a frickin' motion sensor! That lady even threw her jacket on the ground and it appeared on screen!!! You pick which one is new and which one is old as crap and outdated!!!

Pleanty of great first party titles--with a lot more on the way. Not to mention that they are the only ones who got backwards compatability right this generation.
If Nintendo's not your thing, that's fine, but Mario (platformers, rpgs, sports, and parties), Smash Bros., Zelda, ect. don't just sell because of brand familiarity; they sell because people love these games. Honestly, Reach, Castlevania, and Bulletstorm, and a handfull of decent looking XBLA games are the only reason I'm not selling my 360 and saving up for a PC that can run the cross platform games of this generation.

Also, do you really want console gaming to rely sololy on electronics companies with gaming divisions that will be ditched the second they become unprofitable? Nintendo will need to keep making games; MS and Sony don't.

However, agreed--their handhelds kick unbelievable amounts of ass! :)

Wow. Nintendo gives the gamers what they want while Microsoft appeal to the casual fans.

How the times have changed.

I'm surprised that so many complained about the Nintendo presentation, since it was still one of the better E3 presentations this year.
The only complain i had with it was the missing originality.

Other M and Kirby looked very interesting, i was never a big fan of Zelda though, and since MGS Rising seems to have similar gameplay it's obvious which i'm gonna choose. To the complains about Zeldas controls: It's still one year till the game is coming out, i suspect it's not yet completly finished and polished.
My opinion on the 3DS will have to wait till i can see an actual one with my own eyes. No picture or video of it can show the actual §D effect after all.

At least Nintendio dared to show some Gameplay instead of prerendered trailers like most other publishers did.

Anyones besides me sorta kinda dissapointed Yoshi didnt get his own title lol?

I mean all these minor characters like DK and Kirby getting games but wheres all the Yoshi love. A wii Yoshi's Story or Yoshi's Island would be killer, maybe its just me lol.

but still ZOMG 3DS best E3 evars.

we've probably got another good 5 years before anyone starts releasing new consoles...Nintendo can't play all its remaining cards at once.

And--yeah--it'd be nice to see another Yoshi title. I recently borrowed my little bro's Yoshi Island DS, expecting a port of Yoshi Island...I was pleasenty suprised with a sequel.

But hey, we got an awesome trailer for Metroid, we've got a new DK, Kirby, and Kid Icarus announced in the same day, along with a new Mario Sports (which tend to be more interesting than most other sports games), a new zelda with motion+ (if you frequent screwattack.com, some guys tested the trailer and it played find...Miyamoto was either having technical difficulties or did not have to practice his own game...probably the first one), an Ocarina and Star Fox remake, a new golden sun, a goldeneye wiimake, a cool looking Mickey Mouse platformer/adventure/RPG, if gamefaqs is to be believed--"working titles" that include Super Mario 3D, Legend of Zelda 3D, Donkey Kong 3D, Animal Crossing 3D (don't think it'd be my thing, but I may try it out just to see) and Kirby 3D, and the beggining of a new handheld generation!

So, hopefully, we'll see a new Yoshi platformer, a new Eternal Darkness, a new Picmin, a new F-Zero, and maybe even some more new IPs before this generation is over.

...speaking of which, looks like we've got another 2D Sidescroller entering the Nintendo ring. Good luck, Zip...may you catch on and show that Nintendo can release new characters successfully.

@Matzy. The platformer was already an established genre by the time of the SNES. People loved playing them then and they still do. When do you think they should retire the genre? Before or after the console shooter which isn't much newer as a concept now? I like to see genre variety and developers giving us something new as much as anyone but there is no shame in a company like Nintendo knowing what they do well and giving people what they want.

We haven't played those newly announced games yet so cannot say that they are just the same thing again. It's been a while since Donkey Kong on the SNES and it was made by a different company so I expect it will play differently. In the end the people who buy 2d platformers are the ones who decide if the games are different enough or too different or maybe they will even buy based on different criteria like how much fun they look like to play. Is Super Mario Bros for Wii just a rehash any more than Killzone 3 or Gears 3? In the end I just think it comes down to what content you want.

Please explain how a game is not fun if it is not challenging or immersive. If we don't need either, then how come watching paint dry isn't fun? They are key elements to something being fun, not both, but something that is fun has to offer at a challenge or immersion.
While challenge and immersion are good things, "fun" just means it's an enjoyable experience. For me, I loved the crazy multiplayer variables on the N64 (paintball mode, big head mode, ect.), and I'm looking forward to seeing how many make it to the wii. These outright break immersion as they constantly remind you that you are playing game, and they add no challenge,so clearly you just have trouble having fun.

...what?

So, is it wrong that I found the giant-headed Bond shooting paintballs immersion breaking or wrong that I still enjoyed it without said immersion?

I guess we just enjoy different things. It doesn't matter that it's dated because some people still prefer how they handled the game--insane multiplayer variables, solid gameplay, and fond memories make for a strong combination, even if it isn't as shiny as future installments. I don't enjoy Combat Evolved more than its sequels because it's harder or because it draws me in more, I enjoy it most because I have more fun playing my brother and friends in the first title.

Another example, I love Metal Gear Solid 3. Obviously, the dialogue has no challenge to it...it's just dialogue; however, I enjoyed the immersion-shattering breaking of the 4th wall. Fun is whatever a given person finds enjoyable, and that means it comes down to an opinion.

Nintendo....well what can be said? Another Mario, Zelda, Metroid, and a new DS...as always. I don't even have to watch and I can guess half the things they will show.
