I'm not sure that's such a good idea. The more video games have become socially accepted, ie mainstream, I feel the heart has gone out of their creation. Now I'm sure other factors contribute to this, but this mainstreaming doesn't help.

if they mean by the usual surveys through club nintendo...they aren't trustworthy I do those things for coins to buy stuff...I dont pay attention.

survey=poll=most unreliable way to get data in the world.
Surveys are the only way to collect data. How else would you do it? Even then how can you collect it if you expect people to lie anyways? It's a thought process that you can't really go with if your a buisness.

Sounds to me like more bad gimmicks and shovelware. I can't say how much I miss Nintendo's SNES days when Nintendo actually used to cater to gamers. I really think it would be better for gaming as a whole if Nintendo went the way of Sega and just backed out of hardware all together if they can't make a decent console or handheld system w/o slapping some lame gimmick on it.

Oh and not to beat a dead horse but seeing as even my grandmother has a HD television set these days maybe Nintendo can welcome it's self to 2005 and make a console that actually has HD output. . .just saying

Ha!

I laugh and laugh, perhaps if they got this data from a independent researcher then I might believe it however the results that Nintendo received might only reflect to their products not the general side of gaming.

even so it's rather pitiful of the small sample size, in any survey, ten thousands reflect more in the accuracy of the data especially in a country with approx 309m pop, these people really need to go back to school and learn some proper studies

'Socially acceptible' pls <.< who cares what people think, people ask me how I can play so much. I tell them because I enjoy it, why do you do so much shopping ***** *smack* =D but no you get the idea. Lot of my friends dont play them simply because they never grew up with one in the house, if they had a computer/console in the house when they were younger they would probably play them now.

Just wait 20 - 30 years most kids these days are addicted to them, people who play alot now will have kids that play even more... and then o.o we'll have to start gamers annonymous world wide :/

I stopped there and couldn't stop laughing.

I think it's fine they're trying to make games more acceptable. I just don't like how they treat the people who already accept it like us.

I play RPGs and watch pro wrestling. I don't give a damn whether something's socially acceptable or not. Though honestly, greater market penetration usually benefits the lowest common denominator, so maybe I do care. And just hope it doesn't become socially acceptable. Modern Brofare is bad enough.

Nintendo is doing nothing to help fill this gap. Asian developers where awesome but not anymore. America is taking over with our flashy guns and big explosions no more tranny boys and paper mache swords.
Hey now, at least Nintendo uses a pudgy Italian plumber with a mustache and overalls rather than what you describe.

You know why? Because the most vocal and visible proponents of the hobby are spoiled mouth-breathing adolescents with hyperactivity problems and a gun fetish.
And you know why that is? Because publishers keep churning out the same penis-compensating macho kill-simulators.

Good to hear that they still plan on forging their own path and trying to appeal to the non-gamer audience, although they could still stand to benefit by stepping up their more traditional games (which they have been doing, if this year's E3 is anything to go by.) Like it or not, gaming does need to become more socially acceptable if it's to survive in the long run.

I was just expounding on the point, really, pointing out that this isn't really a new phenomenon, and I'm not sure why people are so shocked by it.

The demise of Atari (and all the other console makers of that era) was due to the equivalent of today's sequelitis - games that were essentially clones of earlier titles, with colour, shape, or sound variations - or shovelware - 'Bob in Accounting wrote this game...' 'Slap it on a chip!'

Just wait a few years. Video games are plenty accepted amongst kids. Once all the dinosaurs die out, the gamers will be free to thrive and flourish.

(Yes, I was one of the poor children that was told games rot the brain [ludicrous, they build problem solving skills])

Video games aren't socially acceptable? Since fucking when?
Since about the 90's when Columbine happened. A bunch politicians, doctors, and scientists some how came to the conclusion that the kids who were already fucked up in the head killed a bunch of other kids because they played Doom or Doom 2 (can't remember) one of the famous games of all time.
