Nintendo Reveals New IP: Ever Oasis - a 3DS RPG

Ever Oasis appears to be a "Zelda-esque" RPG for the 3DS.

While Nintendo's E3 presence this year was fairly, lackluster, it did still have a few surprises in store. Chief of those was the reveal of an entirely new IP: Ever Oasis. Revealed during its Treehouse livestream event, Ever Oasis appears to be a very "Zelda-esque" RPG for the 3DS set in a magical desert inspiried by Egyptian mythology.

In Ever Oasis, you play as a chosen Seedling, and your mission is to build a prosperous oasis with the game world's vast desert by working with your partner, lsuna. Just like in the Zelda series, you will delve into dungeons to solve puzzles and find new items, as well as collect materials and recruit artisans to build up your "town".

The game is being developed by GREZZO Co., Ltd. the team behind The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D. It's currently slated for a "2017" release date, though Nintendo didn't offer anything more specific than that.

Oooh, now this is interesting. It's always exciting to see new IP out from the House the Plumber Built, but even beyond that this looks like a neat concept. I've always loved games where you establish your own community and have to actually work to get the materials and such - that's one of the reasons I love the Breath of Fire series so much - so seeing this as apparently being the whole concept behind this game really strikes a happy chord with me. On top of that, the design aesthetic looks really cool; we've seen Japanese, European, and even Norse stylings time and time again, but how often do we get an Egyptian vibe? Or how often are games like this set in a desert? Sure, there are deserts -in- games, but as the whole setting? I like it. Plus, all the characters have a really cute design to them. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing how this game turns out.

Well Level-5 hasn't done shit so I don't see why Nintendo couldn't make their own.

If that's the case I welcome this new IP. Plus while the art style is kinda cutesy I like the direction they went with the Egyptian motif, so I might give this a serious look when it comes out.

Plus it's on the 3ds so it hopefully won't be too expensive.

It kinda remind me of Fantasy Life but without the material grinding and crafting which is a good thing!

I guess I got something to look forward to other than Pokemon Sun and Moon for the 3DS.

Looks really cute :) As others have said, getting an Animal Crossing vibe from this, and I really like the idea of the setting. Cool character designs too.

Awesome. The next time we get a "Nintendo never makes any new IPs" thread, here's another example we can bring up and get told it doesn't count.

Whatever, just wash your hands.
Hrmm, annoying. It appears I might have to start charging my 3ds again.

I imagine the counter argument would be that it is a markedly Zelda-esque gam,e by the same team behind that one Zelda remake.

God, I hope so. Dark Cloud was too good to let rot, I'll gladly take a knock off.
Considering the "knock off" is being done by a company with some serious financial backing who has a QA section with funding of the gods, there's a good chance we may see a better Dark Cloud than Level 5 could ever have produced back in the day.

Given how little time I got these days, finding any game that screams "play me!" over the hordes of "Hi, I'm a shooter", "Hi, I'm a tab target action bar MMO", and "Hi, I'm an over the shoulder linear movie action game! We're a dime a dozen, but when the AAA market pops, it just can't stop!" is a miracle.

Sounds interesting. Reminds me of the premise of Actraiser slightly. Or...

My guess is the justifications will be "it's a JRPG", "it's not directly made by Nintendo", "it's on the 3DS", "it looks cute", and "um, uh, LOOK OVER THERE!" In fact they should just do the last one and get it over with because that would at least be honest.
