This is neat and all but I think this should have been put into it's own thread rather than reviving this one
i posted it in this thread as this thread is already about Nintendo Switch ports.

if i made an entirely new thread for it people would just get pissy with me saying stuff like "ok. this is exciting how?", "why does this deserve it's own thread?" or "Are you going to make a new thread every single time a new game comes to Switch?" etc etc etc

It was stated in 2017 that a port to the Switch would mean four versions of the game would have to be balanced rather than three.
why would the ps4 and xbox versions differ in the balancing dept? they are essentially the same. unless you meant balancing the technical side?
I don't know, that's just the reason Jeff Kaplan gave.

I'd put it more down to your presentation. The whole "Boom" thing implies some earth shattering revelation, rather then business as usual continues on..
Blizzard doing anything with Nintendo is pretty earth shattering tbh.

the last time they made anything for a Nintendo platform at all was 15 years ago.

Diablo isn't anywhere close to being the most exciting thing in the world, but Blizzard getting back with Nintendo again is pretty Hype imo.

Not sure why this is hype-worthy exactly. Apart from Diablo III, unless they're going retro, the only current Blizzard games that could be feasibly ported to a console (without greatly sacrificing the experience) are Overwatch and Hearthstone. So unless Nintendo characters end up in HotS (boo) or Blizzard characters end up in Smash (less invested, but boo), then I don't think much is coming out of this bar "hey, it's D3 on Switch, have fun playing that while the PC gets D4."

Or heck, maybe they will go retro and release Rock n' Roll Racing 2, Blackthorne 2, and/or Lost Vikings 3. If so...um, yay?

2016 wasn't 15 years ago.

Or did you fall into the alternate universe where Activision-Blizzard isn't a thing. That happens a lot to gaming forum frequenters I've noticed.

Anyhow, even if we siphon off the Blizzard subdivision, cool, I guess. It seems unlikely they're going to suddenly jump in to hand off an exclusive title (which last happened on SNES in 1991). Funnily enough, the prime case for that would've been Starcraft on Wii U, which was one of the only consoles that could potentially offer decent RTS controls.

It's just on the technical standpoints. Though the argument loses steam when considering that games like Fortnite, Paladins, and Warframe have (at least upcoming) ports on the Switch.

Not sure why anything is Hype worthy really.

It obviously seems like it was some big announcement considering how Blizzard and Nintendo did a special video just for the reveal and Blizzard has even put in special Zelda cosmetics as well as making it possible for four systems to play together in handheld mode and being able to dive straight into Adventure Mode. Plus they worked with Iron Galaxy for nine months just so the things worked right so it's clearly not a slapdash port with Blizzard ensuring it ran at 60 FPS whether in docked or handheld mode (heck, portability it always a big selling point). I do find it curious that Pete Stilwell (a senior producer) claims they expect most players to be Diablo III veterans. Not sure I agree there, but they definitely expect to grow a base on the Switch

Fraid not.

Also, does he look more like War from Darksiders than Link? Or is it just me?

I still don't understand why people are excited the switch is getting all this old ass shit. Played these games already, even if I could take them around with me, why the hell do I want to?

I want more Octopath Traveler's, (even though I didn't like it very much), I want new unique games to the switch. Not the same shit I've already played on more powerful systems years ago.

Because not everyone is you and thus you do not represent a majority or even a plurality of a population.

When you get down to it, games should not be treated as disposable. That's like writing off stuff like The Lord of the Rings, The Godfather, or It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World just because they're older than a couple years (in some cases WAY older). Furthermore, a lot of these games weren't on Nintendo systems so they could reach a new audience or even get a reliable, established audience. It's why Bethesda was manically porting stuff like Skyrim, Doom, and Wolfenstein on the Switch and now they have Doom Eternal coming out. If you establish and audience you have a reliable cash flow.

That's all well and good, if people want a portable port machine then it looks like they got it. But call me a bit disappointed when I saw all the developers that supported the switch only releasing old games for the system. Rather than new unique titles. While I didn't think Octopath was steller, I at least respect Square for putting effort and money into an exclusive NEW title for the system and they were rewarded with great sales numbers.

Doom 1 and 2 coming to the switch are great. I'm less talking about new game ports as I am these years and years old titles like Grandia and Saint's row. I'd even be less annoyed with the Saints row announcement if it was both 3 and 4 in some kind of bundle package, because at least then you are getting a lot of game out of a re-release.

I don't know, maybe I just expected more Octopath's and less old old ports. I wish I liked Nintendo games themselves, but I couldn't care less about new Smash and Mario games. My 3DS is about to be retired as my Pokemon machine as soon as a mainline Pokemon title hits switch though, so that's something.

Because playing games on the go is fun. Playing games you know you'll like (or didn't get the first time around and are curious about, I know I feel that way about Diablo 3) on the go is super fun, particularly when they used to be console or PC only.

*Goes back to waiting for Dark Souls Remastered*

Diablo 3 is still technically console and pc only. The Switch is a console. Also Diablo 3 was technically portable on wi-fi connections with you Vita link. (if you had one). I mean I am gonna get D3 on the switch. But if there were new original IP's coming out for it, I'd get those instead.

Don't want them to release old ass shit on the Switch? then don't buy the "old ass shit" then.
You're being part of the problem if you do.
