In other words, he's blowing into it to get it to work, an act I feel bad that the younger of us may never experience, what with their holo-discs and their "Steam" download machine.
Back when we were kids, you had to load games in from paper card! And we had to get up in the morning at ten o'clock at night, half an hour before I went to bed, drink a cup of sulphuric acid, work twenty-nine hours a day down mill, and pay mill owner for permission to come to work, and when we got home, our Dad and our mother would kill us, and dance about on our graves singing 'Hallelujah.'

But you try and tell the young people today that... and they won't believe ya'.
My father used to cut us in half with a butter knife!

ah yes, fufu, I remember back in the days with the N64 at my friends house and Super Mario didn't start no matter how many times he turned on/off and pressed it harder into the machine and kept wiggling it. Then I used my super awesome brain and used fufu on it.
Ended in success. Oh yeah.

I'll just stick to saying "blowing into the cartridge".
"so what are you doing right now, sweetheart?"
"fufu"
"isnt that your dog?"
"yes, but actually its a blow jo- honey? honey?"

Man, my method was the worst...when "FuFu" didn't work, I'd take a regular #2 pencil and rub the connectors with the eraser end.

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

but seriously stop using it... I never used it and I never will, fufu just sounds wrong for soooo many reasons....

I could never get my old cartridge of Gauntlet to work unless I gave it a good FuFu. It always had to have someone else watching. Same went for Super Mario Bros 2. But that one always was a bit strange to begin with.

On another note, this explains why I always did so well at Goldeneye on the 64. I had a friend accuse me of sleeping with my N64. It wasn't that at all. I just had to give it FuFu once a week before our marathons. (I could kill him unarmed 10-0 while in the Power Weapons settings without ever dying once, and it would make him rage)

God, I feel so dirty now...

"fufu"? I've never heard it called that before. I can understand Nintendo discouraging it though. better to get a can of compressed air instead.

No, Fufu isn't what kills the cartridge, improper technique does. Always be sure that when blowing, you purse your lips and blow gently to ensure that you do not spit into the cartridge at all.
