Well Nintendo just dropped the bomb on that one pretty nonchalantly. It was just announced a few moments ago that the next Metroid title will be a collaboration between Nintendo and Team Ninja, and it looked pretty incredible.

Thoughts? Trailer will be posted when available.

P.S. She speaks in this game. Could this be the beginning of a trend for Nintendo characters? Link next?

EDIT: TRAILER RELEASED

Did you see the trailer? It seemed like a Ninja Gaiden/Metroid Prime hybrid, very interesting in my opinion.

I thought it was a new StarFox at first, but it's even better than that methinks.

ya, I saw the trailer... It looked like they had some 2D segments in there as well, very intruiging... well, the good news is that Nintendo is finally giving gamers some hardcore stuff too :)

Wow, really?! That's great! As long as they don't make Samus have Rachel Sized Breasts, that's acceptable. Other than that, this should be great. :D

I thought it was a 2D revival title to begin with, then it just went apeshit from there. We'll see the impressions once we get a hands-on probably early next year.

No link yet, but I will post as soon as it's available. Trust me it's not something you expect from a metroid title, that's for sure.

P.S. I thought Retro Studios were supposed to be involved in a project, where is it? Was it this? Because I didn't see their logo anywhere on the trailer.

It seems like this new Metroid will likely be their redeeming game for all the other crap they tried pushing on us this year.

Retro Studios doesn't exist anymore. It might be possible some ex-members of the studio are involved in this though.

To be fair, she speaks both in the trailer to MP: Corruption AND in SSB: Brawl

True, but I was unsure about whether or not they were passing that off as her official voice, after all there weren't any proper dialogue scenes involving her in prime 3. But good point either way.

The only downside to the new Metroid is that it will be called Mom for short. But I jest, that's no reason to complain.

Nintendo's entire presentation was boring right up until the end of it, when they started belting out games that were incredible. Metroid was definitely the savior of hte show. I want to see Nintendo team up with Team Ninja for a Zelda and Starfox.

Retro Studios most certainly does still exist. They are a first party developer wholly owned by Nintendo. However one of the key programmers died of cancer, and some of the lead designers left to form Amature Studios instead.

The games they sell would be far better when they quit cutting voice acting costs. Nintendo has a knack for making their characters grunt and yell like a bunch of monkeys.

At first, I thought this could be interesting. I mean if Team Ninja can make a, shocker here, ninja in tight black leather flip out in ways that tell Newton to go fuck himself by pulling his wang through his asshole, the possibilities for a super-agile hot chick in a super-suit that increases said agility to frankly inhuman levels and goes jumping around in space shooting alien pirates are pretty good, I think. Then I heard this...

This fact will make it suck. Part of the best part about Samus is that she does what she does with a quiet integrety, plus to the best of my recollection Team Ninja isn't known for its stunning dialogue, it's known for making enemies who tie your arms and legs to four separate horses and take off riding (meaning they're unfairly hard to beat).

Plus, it's going to be on the Wii. I think we're over the gimmicks of the Wii, so why keep making serious-style games on it like No More Heroes, Madworld and Red Steel?

Why are serious style games on the Wii gimmicks?

I wasn't saying serious games were a gimmick. I was talking about the motion-sensitive control scheme. There are games where it's appropriate, but then there's games like Metroid where a real controller, not a stupid plastic nunchuk, is a better idea. And Nintendo seems to be gleefully stupid to this fact and makes every Wii game motion-controlled.

While, that's a fair statement, none of those games would have been better off without motion control, in fact all of them were appropriate there. I can think of examples, but that wasn't it, I don't think Nintendo have really implemented motion control badly so far.

P.S.
