Yea, because everybody knows that the sixaxis is the most perfect form of control possible and will never be replaced by anything that involves touching something or moving your limbs. Seriously, why are people so stupid?
.....That was sarcasm...in case you couldn't tell.
If you can't admit that motion controls and touch screens elevate certain games and make others possible that wouldn't be without them, you're either incredibly ignorant or incredibly stubborn. Get over your ignorance/insecurity/pretentiousness.
First off, I didn't bring up the sixaxis, I prefer a 360 controller if I have to use one or a mouse and keyboard if possible.
Beyond that though I'm terribly sorry you haven't come to terms yet with the fact Nintendo gets by on recycling the same things over and over and just slapping a new gimmick on them each time they put em out. They've done it to games since the SNES but now they are doing it with their consoles even. Gamecube past it's prime? No biggie just add motion controls! DS need an update? Easy as pie, lets throw on a 3D screen. Beyond those gimmicks and a few minor changes the consoles are largely unchanged.
It would be one thing if they were innovating but they aren't. They are coasting by on their past success and using smoke and mirrors to make people think it's fresh and new. I've yet to find ANY game on any system that is better because of motion controls unless you count those horrible compilations that are more proof of concept than they are actual games. The same goes for 3D be it the 3DS or the PS3.
As for touch screens, those do have a use but not the way Nintendo implements them sadly. For Christ sake who in the blue hell still uses a stylus?!?! It's been probably a half a decade or more since I've seen a device outside of the DS that actually uses one of those things. You'd think since they were upgrading the DS they could of at least brought the touch screen into the latter half of the last decade . . . just a thought.
Bottom line is Nintendo has grown complacent and lazy and their fans are too shortsighted to see past the latest Mario or Zelda title to notice this. Instead, they happily devour whatever gimmick of the moment Nintendo tells them is the next big thing failing to realize that when you strip away the fancy gimmicks they really haven't progressed much past the days of the Gamecube/DS.
We've danced this dance b4 Xanthious and your opinion is as ignorant and narrow-minded as ever.
If your favorite video game controller (whether it be only for FPS' and RTS' or not, this point is valid) is a 40 year old computer interface, it only proves how much we really DO need R&D in the field.
Nintendo is exemplary in keeping their franchises unique and fresh with every installment, and even if they weren't, they have enough of them to make any claim of lack of variety in their games borderline retarded. Also, "slapping on" motion or touch controls is about 10x more of a change (mechanically, innovatively, and progressively) than adding...umm.....hd?....and achievements?
If you haven't found a game that was better because of motion controls, you're either not looking or covering your eyes and yelling "NAH NAH NAH NAH NAH!" Are you suggesting that Labyrinth on the IOS store would be better with an analog stick? This is simply the most obvious and inarguable example, but I've seen countless unique uses of the Wii controller. (Though, admittedly, not as many as I'd like to have seen) Motion controls open up tons of possibilities and sacrifice nothing outside of cost. How, exactly, can one prefer their controller didn't include a gyro and accelerometer?
As for 3d, you're entitled to your opinion, but no matter your opinion, the 3ds is designed to suit you and the console is so much more than a DS with 3d. I personally think 3d adds more to the experience than HD ever did and makes certain games more accessible simultaneously.
Your point on stylus controls is simply incorrect....simple as that. Just because the DS/3DS comes with a stylus doesn't mean that the touchscreen is akin to a 90's palm pilot or something. I've come across many touch screens (my own phone, a Samsung Solstice, included) recently for which I've dug into my bag and pulled out a plastic mechanical pencil to use. Even if the 3DS touchscreen had multi-touch and heat sensing, (which would be the legitimate criticisms you were most likely looking for) I would still like the convenience, accuracy, and familiarity (yes familiarity- we've all used a pencil) of a stylus. Do you honestly want even a single finger, let alone multiple, obstructing your view of an already below average size screen?
There are those who criticize Nintendo from and objective and intelligent standpoint, (I respect them and their opinions and would like to think I am one of them) then there's you. You're not "pointing out their shortcomings," you're completely dismissing their advances in the last decade as non-existent, completely incorrect, or "gimmicky" and essentially claiming that every group of their games with the same character's name on it is the same. And to go on to say that they're not innovating....what the hell do you think that word means exactly? Nintendo has made some of the most innovative games and consoles ever. They've been there since the beginning; Nobody can begin to predict what gaming would look like today without them, but I have a hard time believing it would be better. And even if your opinion on each of their ventures is utter garbage, nobody can deny that they're experimenting, which is more than most devs could say. I may be a Nintendo fan, but I think we all can see (I love when I get backed up) who's the biased one here.
