I am not familiar with the background of the story here. is there a strict limitation to a traditional samurai build? From a renegade Samurai it's a small step to a Ninja. And we all know Ninjas LOVE to Izuna drop the crap out of opponents!
I am not denying the cool factor of the izuna drop, but when have you seen a samurai do it? I think there is a traditional samurai build. To me they don't have anything really fancy, aside from their sword skills and some cool judo throws. Ninjas are more well known for their "mystical" abilities.

I feel there are enough games where you can play as a ninja, and there you can izuna drops fools to your hearts content.
I guess my point is that I hope if team Ninja makes a Souls clone that they don't forget what sets them apart as a studio. You know, like you know what to expect now with a Platinum game, hopefully they somehow make this one a Team Ninja game. Whether there is a Izuna drop or not I actually couldn't care less. Would you be happier with a Guillotine throw? Let's translate to "high risk, high reward" move. Something you have to pull off with precision that gives you good damage, iframes, splash damage, you know the drill.

Remember, they make Ninja Gaiden/Black/Sigma, Sigma 2, Razors Edge, but they also made other M ...

Here is an interesting article on Kurosawa's directing and how the author hopes the game will honor his name.

Ok, I feel ya. Yeah, I think they will, and I hope they do have some brutal and cool looking moves. Based on just the trailer, I hope they have more of those grab-type (like obliteration technique) moves. Where he bulls forward against the guys guard, knocks him down then stabs him. Maybe he grabs the dude, judo hip throws him into the air, then cuts him in half. I could live with that.

I wouldn't call izuna drop or guillotine throw exactly high-risk though :)P) Those were my go-to moves in NGB, hehe. They were very satisfying.

It seems like Koei's way of trying to make a Dark Souls-esque game. I like Koei, I'm a longtime Warriors fan, but recently they've had a really weird habit of trying to do things that other people are already doing, and doing better (*cough cough* Toukiden *cough cough*).

The designs in the game look Koei as hell, but I really want them to just make something unique, especially since Kou Shibusawa (Koei's CEO and founder) is a really interesting guy, and the man who invented the historical strategy genre. On top of that he always talks about challenging his developers creatively, but that never really seems to manifest itself in anything. It doesn't help that what made Koei's last foray into a new genre good was a kind of weirdly charming incompetence on the developer's part.

In Black the Guillotine is fairly low risk. But since you mention obliteration you must have played some NG2 or NGS2, right. Or were there OT's in the first game. Anyhoo, on harder difficulties GT's would leave you with a bunch of ohk delimbed dudes crawling around, which I would certainly call risky. And Izuna drops leave you open during landing if youre not careful.

Dammit, all this talk made me horny for some NG.

Yea I played some NG2, but I only made it to the level with Zedonius. I think the level just started but these giant mech suits are attacking while rocket spammers are bombarding you. And I just had enough of that games bullshit.
So most of my knowledge comes from NGB, which I also kinda have a hankering for now, haha.

And in NGB, izunas were pretty safe. You usually killed the dude you were spiking, and anyone around would get knockback. Actually, I guess you are right, the quicker enemies like the cat fiends and the mutant soldiers would usually punish you during recovery. That said, I got by through hard and very hard just spamming izuna on humanoid enemies.

And no, OTs first appeared in NG2.

For those interested, I reccommend ninja gaiden 3: razors edge if you can get it. The true version of 3, better balanced and quite fun. No real bull crap like 2, with faster but bloodier combat than black. But combat is just so smooth and balanced.

This is turning into a NG party. Partly my fault I guess :)
Anyhoo, yes, RE is good. I reinstalled the demo last night because I couldnt be bothered to get the disc from the basement. But after playing NGS2 right before it, I dunno, Ryu somehow seems slow in 3. Ayane feels great though. And did they really need the SoB mechanic? And the enemies. There seems to be such an enormous leap from the cannonfodder dudes to the beret guys. Those guys are complete douchebags!

I was stuck on Zed on my mentor run for WEEKS. Partly because I was too lazy to restart the level with the brute and the jumping and all. So I was up there with no items and only one ninpo and I suck enough at the game to need ninpo to get rid of the help :( Funny how you remember these things though.

And ugh, cat fiends. Started replaying NGS+ on hero for some trophies you can only get on hero, plus I never played hero before. And I got to the monastery. No cats :) I almost miss them. Right. Not really !!

Back on topic, I really hope this Ni-Oh game turns out to be as memorable. I guess thats the real point.
