Steam isn't that much better. Yes Valve has a better reputation right now but that too can change. And when it does, I won't even dare to show myself on gaming forums for fear of the shit storm it will cause.
That being said, don't look down on pc's please. As much as you might want to deny it, pc's are superior to consoles right now. Yes current consoles are great at what they do and if you like them all power to you. But PC's are still superior in...well, every way except exclusives.

You can use a controller on PC you know. It is the only way I can play sleeping dogs. Any old wired Xbox controller will do.
Yes, I actually have a controller that I use periodically for pc gaming.

Oh, and it has already been leaked that the next Xbox will have a BluRay drive...... So don't fret, and I doubt Sony (the guys who invented Blu Ray) would not include it in their new box. (though I don't recall it's mention in the press event yesterday.)

To be honest, it's because I simply cannot afford to continually upgrade hardware for a PC. I somehow was able to manage to play Deus Ex Human Revolution on my PC (Read: Laptop. I was surprised, I dont meet minimum specs, but I turned all the effects to down or off, it's... playable) Admittedly I bought the fallout collection and Deus Ex Collection yesterday on steam.
No lie though, I love steam, and if an actual steam CONSOLE (not this piston nonsense) released I would eat it up.
Yeah, I know that the new Xbox will have bluray, which is great. But since I'm trying to be debt free (By the end of this year, *I CAN DO IT!*) I don't have as much money available for gaming, but, I don't plan on getting rid of my 360 any time soon, so I have a huge backlog of games to play on that and once used PS3s get to a point of being ridiculously inexpensive, that is, under $100 I plan on going back and picking up the good JRPGs over there.
