In this age of Steam Sales (example, not the rule) games are way more accessible than ever, meaning you can own a copy of virtually any game you want at a decent price as long as you're willing to look for it.
That being said, there are a lot of potentials for bottlenecking or backlog, but thats not the issue at hand. Issue is, owning a game that is by all accounts awesome or at least playthrough worthy, having no excuse not to play it (no responsibilities getting in the way) yet you find yourself unable to pick up the sticks, or mouse/keyboard so-to-speak.
So, how many of you suffer from this gaming apathy?
I know I do.
Games of said status:
Bioshock: Infinite (despite spoiling the ending, I really do want to play it through)
Dishonored
Darksiders 1 and 2 (I have no excuse)
FarCry 3
Borderlands 2

FTL.
More because I have more 'Wait are you serious?' deaths caused in that game then the escapist forums has posts when multiplied by the number of Dynasty Warriors games.

I mean really - you think the worst thing are the choice 'maybe someone will die, maybe you'll get some stuff' events?

No.

The boarding drone deactivated in a breached room is the most hellish shit.

I do this with movies sometimes. I have them on my harddrive for years then finally watch them and get my mind blown and wonder how I never watched them earlier.

I currently have a half-finished blind playthrough of XCOM: Enemy Unknown that I really want to finish but just never get around to. Probably because of how punishing the game is if you mess up.

Huh?

Can you elaborate, because I'm not getting what's hellish about that.

Do you mean your drone in their ship, or theirs on yours? And what do you mean by deactivated? Like when the drone control gets busted?

I must know!

Tell me about it. I got it free on ps+ and I really liked it but I fucked up in the beginning when it came to managing my resources and now I basically can't finish it/don't feel like cause I'd pretty much have to restart

But yeah, I got Psychonauts for $5 on Steam forever ago and I just don't feel like playing it. I feel like it might blow my mind but right now, it just seem boring compared to other games I have. I've also had Persona 4: Arena sitting around my room for the last 6 months which must seem frustrating to all the Europeans who had to wait so long for the game to get localized. I also started playing Cry of Fear which was amazing but something stopping me (probably fear) from picking it up again

Oh yeah, I get this all the time.
It's called an opinion, and no matter how much a game is universally praised to whatever degree, if I don't like it, I don't like it and will most likely not play it.

I have a perfectly good excuse- I have 99p.

That said, I've had Empire: Total War for years but I've barely played it, I keep meaning to.

I have had this happen before, it's horrible...

Enemy Boarding Drone on your ship, if you destroy the enemy ship (or knock out their Drone Control System I guess), the drone deactivates. If it happens while the drone is in a breached room (the one it landed in for example), you have to destroy the drone before your crew will begin to repair the breach so it's an annoying game of running crew members back and forth from the med-bay..... however if the drone landed in a critical system (like Life Support Systems), and it has managed to take them down before deactivating then it's pretty much a death sentence for everyone on board.

Fun times :)

I mean to play Amnesia, but I want to capture it on my first session (a very uninformed session, I barely know anything besides there being a red guy and insanity) for entertainment purposes. I've gotten even lazier, so I can't be bothered setting it all up.

And I might be a little fwightened.

Besides that I'm still wanting to finish Call of Pripyat...

Damn, there have been some amazing mods for that game and I put more hours into that than even Medieval II.

OT-
Only played Just Cause II for a bit, had to stop when I upgraded and never got around to it again.
Dawn of War II Expansions.
... and I know I have a lot more that I haven't picked up because they're somewhat small and forgettable but I don't have the time.

How about in your deactivated O2 room? :D

Gotta love those "Man, I was doing so well, but...!" FTL moments. Fantastic game :)

OH DEAR GOD! Why did you bring that up? Oh dear god, they were suffocating but instead of fixing the damn breach they were shooting the fucking dead robot! I mean, how stupid where they to do that. It...it...it...

In all seriousness, FTL was a good game, but that little tid bit proves that even the best games have some "GOD PLEASE NO" moments.

Fallout: New Vegas. I mean, I like it, but I just can't muster up the strength to play it, especially when I'm this far into the game and I built my character poorly, which restricts my compulsive need to see every single nook and cranny and collect every item. I still haven't installed Fallout 3 for this reason. I'm going to assume that New Vegas is for those already familiar with Fallout 3, since there's a lot to take in. Is Fallout 3 friendlier to beginners?

Amnesia: Dark Descent. I keep telling myself I'll install it, but that day never comes.

Saints Row 3. I just got it, but I think it's charm has worn off by now.

Deus Ex. I've played the first few minutes three times already, I just don't feel like going further. I bought it for myself recently, so maybe I'll continue this time.

Dark Souls. Self explanatory.

Super Meat Boy. Got it two years ago, but I forgot about it. Still haven't made it past the second world.

this is very true, to the "T" so to speak. I played through the game roughly for 35 campaigns and I can't seem to pick it back up even though I was hellishly addicted to it for a while.

also, Dishonored, for whatever reason I enjoyed the first couple missions and I can't seem to click it and keep playing through it..

So, a gaming backlog thread? Sounds fine...right now I have Animal Crossing, Shin Megami Tenshi IV, Fire Emblem Awakening and, Earthbound vying for my time. BUT THEN Super Mario Galaxy came right the Hell out of NO WHERE and I was able to play it without motion sickness and with liquid-hot fun in its place.

Then when I get home after having moved, I have a plan to do an Intelligence - 1 run through of Fallout 3 and, New Vegas (wub-wub)...among other games that are waiting for me back home.

Final Fantasy Tactics.

I have a massive pile of shame to get through but that is at the top my list.

I can't seem to pull myself around to play it. I've read too many stories about that you can play for like 3/4 of the game wrong without knowing it until you get up to one little mission and you are screwed so hard beyond belief that causes you to have to restart the entire game, just to set your characters up for that one encounter....

:(

The biggest one I am doing this with at the moment is Fire Emblem on the 3DS.

I have it, and got it full price... I am really excited to play it, but at the same time don't want to be disappointed... I first heard of it, like many, through Super Smash Bro's, and loved Marth and Ike from there... I have watched the trailers, and some gameplay, but am still too scared to start!

Weirdly, since purchasing it, I have started and completed 3D Mario, and have bought and played Final Fantasy Theatrhythm, in fact, played it quite a bit! :/
