It's real.

There's already been a thread about this though.

I will not be getting the shot. The reasons for this is the time it took for the virus to be noticed and the vaccine to come out too short for any good testing.
Okay this is the problem.

Let's clarify.

The seasonal flu is the one that millions of people get vaccinated against every year. The shot is comprised of the the flu variants that scientist believe will be the most prevelant that year and as such the contents of the vaccine vary year on year.

The H1N1 Flu vaccine is the one specifically designed to combat swine flu. It is separate from the seasonal flu vaccine and, at least in Britain, vaccinations using it have not yet begun but will do shortly.

From this it is safe to assume that the vaccine she had WAS NOT the H1N1 vaccine but more likely the far more common seasonal flu vaccine and given that regular seasonal flu kills literally thousands every year the chances of suffering a side effect from the vaccine far outweigh the thousands of one to chance of catching flu and suffering any related complications.

Let's also remember that the flu variants included in the vaccine are only the variants that are assumed to be the most common that year which means that individuals that have had the flu vaccine can still catch the flu but since most flus contain some basic commanility, having had the flu vaccine means that you will also have the antibodies which usually means that the results of catching the flu are lessened.

F.Y.I i'm not ranting about that you should not take the vaccine, it's just that iv'e not been that hyped about it, it's more that the first vid just discouraged me even more and that the second vid explained some of the ingredients in it

Or to put it simply, is it worth the hassle? Because 2 of my mates have been sick for the past couple of days after the taking the H1N1 shot

Given that all types of 'flu can be deadly (I think they kill 45,000 people a year in Europe/America. I looked this up a while ago so I may be totally off-base here), if you are at-risk then you should definitely get the shot.

The girl's condition is debated as to whether it's real, and there is no evidential link between the condition and the shot either.

As an aside, did you know that 100% of domestic accidents happen in the home? Something to think about if you are worried about a 1-in-a-million chance of something that may not even be related at all. Given that there is a 1-in-a-thousand chance of you dying in your armchair in the total time it takes for the lottery numbers to be drawn, there are other things you should be worried about ;)

So... what's the seasonal flu? Something new, or the one i'm always happy to get, so I can stay at home for a few days?
I don't watch the news (or TV at all) so this is the first time i've heard of it.

P.S. Yes, i'm living under a rock.
the one your always happy to get
But... Doesn't everybody get a lot of shots before their 10th? I even remember everyone telling me that getting 10 was painful cause you'll get two shots at the same time (one in each shoulder). isn't one of all those vaccins the one against the normal flu? And doesn't anyone even slightly healthy survive the flu itself?
Well, I don't know it's mandatory you get shots in america, but here I got a lot... Is this some sort of "not tested uber shot with which you'll never be ill again"? I wouldn't want that. I like being ill once in a while.

If you're at risk, take the vaccine.

Does no-one remember the measles vaccine controversy? Irresponsible scare stories about it causing autism (which turned out to be hopelessly wrong, obviously) led to millions of parents not getting it for their children. In the end, many children were hospitalised because of it, some suffered permanent brain damage, and several died.

I'm not getting the flu shot anyways. I'm perfectly healthy and always wash my hands. Why would I want the shot, when there are sick people who need the shot more?

those are shots for polio and some other once that can be quite horrific and have largely been eliminated by the shots, and among them you usually get a flu shot, but the flu mutates quite easily so you can take a refill for it to be more effective

I think it's psychogenic. But maybe that's just me. No, wait, it isn't.

Does no-one remember the 1976 Swine Flu outbreak?

The flu killed one person and hospitalized 13.

The vaccine killed 25 people and hospitalized more than 500.

Yeah I live in Ireland and even I'd heard the vaccination was more dangerous than the flu itself months ago

For the final and hopefully last time. Scientists know what they're doing! Also any new medication needs to pass through rigious tests, the scientists would have worked all hours to find a vaccine as theres lots of money in it. The ordinary flu can kill you, i'd drather be in a wheelechair than dead. There may be a few people that have an alergic reaction to one of the componements in the vaccine which is sad yes but millions of people have had the vaccine. One person is ill. Logic states chances of something going wrong is small. If we stopped everything that had one case going wrong then we wouldn't have morphine as i'm allergic to it.
This is like the MMR scare again and now there are children with measles and mumps which can cause nasty side effects such as your brain swelling up and death.

Why does the video skip at 2:02? When he's saying "Doctors say what happened to desiree should (skip's here) discourage people from getting flu shots." Did they intentionally cut this part out, because it sounds to me like it was supposed to say "Shoudn't" or "Should not".

Oh god, not this again! No offense to the cheerleader, but a 1 IN A MILLION chance of getting a disease that effects very, VERY few people should not be the reason for putting off the flu vaccine.
Now I'm not saying you should go get the vaccine, I'm not, but not because I'm scared of what ever she's got. This is just media sensationalism and scare tactics.
I'm pretty sure that it says in the video that she already had the problem, but it was dormant and the vaccine set it off, further lowering your chances of getting it

Also, at what point in the video do doctors say the flu vaccine is dangerous? And those that do are probably taking money under the table or have medical degrees written in crayon.

Plus its a pretty dubious piece of news journalism to say the least.
Now-a-days some parents don't have there children vaccinated for fear that there children will become autistic or something of that nature, and because of these parents diseases that where on the verge of eradication are starting to emerge once again... There ignorance is a danger to the community...

Our new mutant strain of the N1H1 has killed around 3000, If the new vaccine killed 25 people the amount of lives it will save will more then make up for it.
