Heres a list of visual novels without porn

http://vndb.org/g235

Think the reason that lots of great VNs have a sex scene is cuz of the marketing and they have to tack it on otherwise people might not buy them. Like how multiplayer is tacked on into lots of games these days for fear of people not buying it.
Splendid!!! For sure I will check this list. Thank you.

Well, nearly all of the best non-AO stuff has been mentioned (of which I'll second Chaos;Head, Steins;Gate, 999, Virtue's Last Reward, Corpse Party), I'll close that category with Planetarian - Reverie of a little Planet. And recommend a few less high profile non-AO titles, such as Higanbana no saku yoru, and Rose Guns Days. Also hear decent things about Rewrite.

The excellent Cross+Channel comes with an option for all ages install as well, but otherwise I'm out of titles which aren't AO-rated. Mostly AO content is merely a bother/bonus depending on taste, but in a few (Saya no Uta, Swan Song) it's an integral part of the plot.

I just played through Layton Brothers: Mystery Room, and while it might be a little more puzzle game than visual novel, I think you might enjoy it. It's an IOS game, and the first two cases are free, so you can try it out to see if you like it before diving in. There's a cool story that runs through the cases, and it feels really satisfying to nail a witness with the right piece of evidence or figure out a difficult clue.

I just finish the game Analogue: A Hate Story and I think it is worth it to give it a try.
I played Analogue a good while back, and also found it highly enjoyable. Ended up staying up all night to finish it, I recall.

My recommendation is Cinders [http://moacube.com/games/cinders/]; a visual novel from a Polish developer, based on the Cinderella fairy tale. It has a few different primary endings/goals, all with their own variations depending on how you play, and a stats/collectibles screen to show your progress in that area. The artwork is phenomenal, and the story very engaging.

It can be purchased straight from the developer's website, or from Winter Wolves [http://www.winterwolves.com/cinders.htm], where you'll also find a bunch of other visual novels (and life sims and RPGs with similar mechanics).

Month old thread. Whatever.

That's a sort of selective list of the better ones. Haven't played a second of any of them, I just keep it in my pooter in case I want to do it later.

Yeah, go ahead, it's not my image to claim any ownership to. It's all over the place on the net. I think.

Personally I'd say the Higurashi visual novels. I picked up one of them at a convention this year for...I think $20. It's boring at first, but people who know Higurashi know it does not stay boring.
