Meh, only 90 days? A few years ago I lived at my dad's house for 4 months with no internet connection.

So yeah, been there done that. It was alright, I guess.

Jesus, all I use the internet for is Facebook, here and porn.
Is there anything else? I mean, really.
Well there's bitching about stuff. I do that quite a bit on the internet.

I don't watch porn, but getting of the internet for 90 days would be tough. I mean, I could do it. No problem. I have tons of other things to do (And things I need to stop putting off...), so I think it'd be beneficial for me.

Alright Escapists. In light of some recent brain studies about internet addiction and a couple of videos I've seen on the negative effects of porn, I've decided to try and cut myself off from these two "vices". Personally, I've noticed myself falling into extremely addictive patterns that are starting to negatively affect my quality of life.
??? i am unaware of these negative effects of which you speak, almost everything I've read/heard about masturbation either said it was a positive effect or that it makes you go to hell (catholic priest logic, sex with a 10 year old is fine but me masturbating is wrong) and from my own experience masturbation is a good thing (I'm pretty sure that 99% of men agree with me on this one)

same goes for the internet, true in excess it is bad but to cut down to 1 hour a day? surely that is overkill, the internet has many great benefits and while doing it in excess is harmful, the same goes for everything from smoking to exercise and I really dont understand your reasons for quitting.

I'm not challenging, flaming or hating you, im mostly just curious as to why the hell you would do this and it seams like a very bad idea to me

I think as far as I could go would be only using MSN and Wikipedia. Three months is a long time to be out of contact with my best friends, and I need stuff to read and basic update with current events.

Define porn.

Edit: I'm doing a rather mini version of this in regards to the porn: No masturbation for a week. 4th day and it's been getting harder and easier at the same time. It's just that it stopped being a pleasure action and started being a daily routine for the longest while.

Now, obviously avoiding the internet entirely would be damn near impossible (especially considering the nature of my job), but I'm going to try and only have one tab open at a time and keep browsing time down to one hour per day. While not an avid consumer of pornographic material, I'm going to try and avoid looking internet porn as well.

I make this thread for three reasons. One, to possibly have some form of accountability for all this as well as a way to catalog my progress and any positive changes to my psyche.

Secondly, Perhaps if anyone else would like to join me in my noble quest, they would be interested in having others hold them accountable.

lastly, to discuss this idea. Whether or not you think it's stupid or if you'd like to share any personal experience with addiction.
I have struggled with very similar addictions and if you are seriously going through with this enthusiastically look forward to the results.

I have a job for the summer for a month and a half and I'll be without internet - I did the same last year and it was bloody tough (I had to make a mission of mercy to GAME in order to amuse myself) but I really don't know how I'll manage it this year since my internet addiction has expanded to new, scary proportions.

I salute you sir. (Good night and) Good luck.

Masturbation is not the same thing as internet porn. They're two very different things.

there's one article. Also deals a bit with gaming addiction. Neither are really "evil" imo, but should definitely not be abused. If unplugging from porn could improve my quality of life then why not give it a shot? Also, there is really NO good reason to smoke. It's expensive, has no benefits that couldn't be better derived from entirely free and healthy activity, is horribly addictive and can kill you. It also causes wrinkles, yellowing, chronic smelliness and various immediate health problems.

Also, neurological studies have shown excessive internet usage, even at only a few hours a day, can cause considerable damage. Again, I've experienced these effects first hand. Just google internet addiction.

mfw everyone thinks that porn is required for life

OT: You can do it, man! I could do it, but seeing how I don't do porn and don't spend more than a couple hours on the net itself each day, I don't think I need to... Still, good for you!

Sooooo whos funding the time machine? I mean to effectively do this you have to go back to a time before the vices of Internet and Porn were firmly established. So whos paying for it?

OT: Meh I dunno if it'll have much of an effect this abstinance from I and P. I mean no Porn will hardly do anything and the worst case scenario for no Internet is that your brain develops the function to wirelessly connect to the internet... with your mind!
