Since it's on sale 14th I can assume the iOS 5 update will be out before then?
The 12th of October is when we head off into the cloud, never to return ;-)
Yay!

OT: Yay! I wasn't really looking forward to an iPhone 5 announcement because chances were it would be expensive for the increased tech. However, I'm impressed with the upgrades for the 4S. It makes my 4 look puny and in need of an upgrade. Which won't happen until my contract runs out in March, but when it does....

Also; finally! A decent camera on the thing! At least they are catching up to the 12MP phones that exist nowadays!

Well. I was hoping that my new phone would be an iPhone 5, but it looks like I might be going with a Droid instead.
I'm thinking the same for myself... My current iPhone 3g has been giving me all kinds of shit recently and I was really hoping for iPhone 5. Waited all summer.
Now I just need to figure out whats the best droid in Canada...
Arguably the Motorola Atrix or Samsung Galaxy s2. I haven't decided which one I want as I have a 3 year old Blackberry to upgrade this November.

I laughed hysterically when I saw that.

Getting a slight robocalyspe vibe with Siri (seriously, anyone else think i, robot?), but other than that, should be a good replacement for my almost-out-of-contract current phone.

If they'd have called it the iPhone 5 people would be lapping it up.

I've yet to see the need for anything more powerful than this in a phone, a tablet yes, but a phone really? The only way to stress it given the screen size is going to be 3D and 3D in a phones a gimmick, and thats comming from someone who games in 3D on my PC, and is a big lovre of 3D for gaming, TV and cinema.

Isn't this what happened with previous iPhone announcements? The hype leading up to the announcement grows to ridiculous levels, the new phone underwhelms people's expectations, then the phone is released and people flock to buy it anyway.

I have an aging 3GS, so I'll be upgrading to the 4S on the 14th.

I heard this on the radio today, and said 'I bet that's just one of their olf thinngs but with a couple of minor updates to rope in the Apple cult'.

I am so surprised :p

... I've never understood the qualifications atech story needs to get covered on this site. There was nothing on the Kindle Fire, nothing (except for one article in passing) on Windows 8, yet the iPhone 4S is news worthy?

Uh, okay. I'm not sure what I'm missing here.
The newsies here are people, not robots. They just post what they find.
The title of this article really bothers me. Isn't any new iPhone just a redesign of an old one? It has a new camera, new battery, new processor, new flash, new chassis, new antennae, and new circuitry. The screen was made industry leading last year. Honestly, what would it take for people to stop bashing on apple for releasing the same thing over and over? An iPhone shaped like an apple? What does everyone expect them to do?

I like how everyone's calling it a redesign just because it still has a 4 in its name. Really, people? Twice the processing power and 7x the graphics capabilities, and you're calling it a redesign? That's a bigger jump than any other iPhone model so far.

...Considering how beefed up this one seems to be compared to the iPhone 4, why they didn't just call it the iPhone 5 is beyond me. It pretty much sounds like it is the iPhone 5. But for some stupid reason, they called it iPhone 4S and now people are getting mad that it's not called iPhone 5.

Whatever. Apple never made all that much sense to me anyway. Why should they start now?

Flash. If it's still got shedloads of compatability issues including flash, I'm hopping away from Apple for something more fruitful.

And they're still 6 or 7 hundred dollars here. Good thing that when I buy a phone, I buy a fucking phone.

That's all well and good, but will it also be on ATT? It's about time for an upgrade, my 3G isn't doing so well. I also don't want to switch to Sprint since 1. it's CDMA, 2. I have a grandfathered unlimited data plan, 3. I have a family plan and convincing the whole family is a pain and not worth it.

So what is it, Apple?

Argh I was hoping for a bigger evollution. Slapping an A5 into the ip4 body is pretty lame. When you have exynos SGSII's from six months ago still being up to par.... And this phone has to last till at least june. Yikes! No LTE no WiMax, no NFC, no HDMI and still the same tiny 3.5 in form factor :( Maybe the Prime will be the evolution in phone tech I'm looking for.

Flash is a bloated battery hog. There is no need to include something like that on a mobile phone, regardless of the fact that the phone now beats the entire handheld gaming market.

I doubt they'll ever implement that into their phone. I even recall reading an article on how Apple despises Flash, but correct me if I'm wrong. Either way, like someone already posted, it's a battery-waster and not at all needed.

Yeah you're right, Flash is totally useless. I mean who really wants a full web surfing experience anyway.

If anything, they should use HTML5 instead of Flash. Flash is old and slow, HTML5 is slick and smooth.

They may very well should at that . . .but they don't. The fact of the matter is the internet browsing experience on the iPhone 4s, Apple's top of the line phone, still is far below par as to what is offered on even the most bottom rung of Android phones.
