No Man's Sky. A game hyped as Hell prior to its release, and yet almost completely panned once it actually appeared on shelves. It really does seem as though, whenever the game gets mentioned, all we get is negativity. But, I want to now if there's anybody here who, contrary to everyone else, actually LIKES the game? Anyone who can look past all the flaws everybody else has claimed the game has, and enjoys it all the same.

Most of the flaws have been fixed with patches. It's actually a pretty good space exploration game now. If thats what you are looking for.

I was alrightish with it the first time around. When I retried when they added Survival mode (and the bases, though I never got that far) it was maybe a bit too far in the other direction, overemphasizing some of the clumsier inventory management aspects. Haven't given it another round since the vehicles and stuff were added, though its still sitting on my PS4 (one of its virtues being that its basically non-existent filesize wise).

Though theres some disclaimer to be had, because I got it for free (the magazine I was doing reviews for had pre-ordered it for me ages before it came out, and actually had closed up in the meantime), and didn't really follow the hype line on it. So I didn't have the issue with the price point that some would, and didn't go in expecting the space game to end all space games or whatever.

Also some retro-vision involved. At NMS I was actually playing the game. Compared to other super-hyped survival game Ark, where half the time it's watching Netflix with occasional glances at the game to pop food in while progress bars tick up for 1-9 hours (thats how their core dinosaur taming/breeding mechanics work).

I like it fine. Have a tendency to freak myself out with the text from those Cthulhian ruins you find when it's 3am and I've broken into my fifth one in an hour.

That said, I missed the hype train in its entirety, so that may be a contributing factor.

Full disclosure, never played it. But from what I've seen and heard and post patches, it looks fine. Just fine, no better, but no worse. The reason it failed was hype and lies. If they had just kept it straight, and showed what the final game would be like, I think it would have done much better. At least as good as that blob/goo farming game.

I think Robert B. Marks does. He even wrote an article about it a while ago: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/video-games/columns/garwulfs-corner/17542-Garwulfs-Corner-No-Mans-Universe

He describes it as an "acquired taste".

I enjoyed it, both on release and after the updates. It's a fucking great game to just chill out with.

S'alright. Though there are still some things that annoy me, such as never being able to find a trading post/terminal when I need one, (some sort of radar icon or map that points to the nearest one would be really good), and not being able to summon my spaceship from anywhere when I wander too far away from it. (It can only be summoned on landing pads - which are also difficult to find and/or stumble across randomly. Just let me summon it from anywhere, 'Scroll of Town Portal' style, dammit.)

Niet. But does it really that different from, say, Skyrim where you have huge world, no real impact on the plot and you basically go and click over and over to fight?
Just another game, only with a lot more hype and considerably less well planed storyline

I never minded it. Didn't buy it, either. I did see gameplay at release and, honestly, I wasn't disappointed. Then again, it's because it met my expectations - mostly everybody else's seemed to be aimed way high, hence it failed theirs.

It's sort of on my wishlist as a title I might pick up at some point.

Just checked.

User reviews:
RECENT: Mostly Negative (343 reviews)
OVERALL: Mostly Negative (74,195 reviews)

The reviews are still mostly negative on steam.
And its still ?39.99 here.. or $60 to americans I think?

So.. even if its a decent game the fact its still that price on steam after this amount of time.. I just can't justify the cost. But the recent reviews are still negative. So it certainly doesnt seem worth the price.

I have it, I don't play it anymore. If its ever actually finished I might try it again from scratch.
Depends what you'd class as finished. They've prettymuch added the incomplete/missing feature liss. And expanded on the base game quite a bit.

The base game is still pretty much what it is though. You mine stuff to craft or sell for money to buy better stuff to mine better stuff to craft better stuff (going up until you're running trade freighters and building vehicles and base colonies).

Beyond the whole vehicle/base stuff, there isn't a huge addition to the game. You can charge stuff on the fly now. Ships and weapons have actual visible stats and classes. There's 3(4 technically, but one is just permadeath mode) gametypes Regular/Hardcore Survival (extreme conditions are more detrimental, stuff is more complex to craft, and you have to make actual batteries and stuff, not just dump raw elements in)/Creative. Some new materials, and some progression with needing specific lasers or gear to mine some rarer stuff.

Stories the same old. Some of the generation seems a bit tweaked to provide more interesting environs (also animals have proper behaviour now). When they added the base building, they put in ways to track where you've been and get back there, so you're not just endlessly cycling through loot'n'leave forever systems.

I haven't played it, but I've seen a handful of people say they enjoyed in the comments on Youtube or Steam. It's definitely not for everyone and it probably isn't for me. Everyone agrees that it fell extremely short of what was promised, but some guys were able to enjoy what they got regardless.

I liked it while I was playing it, haven't touched it in quite some time though, since it came out. Maybe I should check out and see how the updates pan out.

No, my nephew did for a bit, but never plays it anymore. It is boring and depthless I think, and would wager that is part of why he doesn't play it anymore. Plus people got openly swindled on what the game promised and that sort of bitterness affects the taste of the game, regardless.

Post-patches it's a remarkably average game, mired by the blandness of the planet generation. A 'well it's 85% off I might as well get it' kind of game. There are far better and more immersive space-sims out there though, like Elite Dangerous. Or EVE Online.
