the Kinect is a joke just like any game made with it in mind as a control device. They where late to the motion control party and now they need to just scrap it and focus on making good games.

fuck motion controls, please refer to any of the ZP rants having to do with that for my detailed opinion.
this only emphasizes that motion controls add nothing to gameplay, and now they are actually REMOVING gameplay to suit the motion controls

what the fuck Peter? after the absolute failure that was Fable 3, I would think that you would want to get back on my good side!

WTF, is up with these developers and their anti melee game design, lol.

Deus Ex Human Revolution and now Fable.

What next, an UFC game with no melee combat?

What? Is there really no melee in Deus Ex HR?

Those limited by bioelectiral energy take downs which are primarily for limited use in stealth gameplay. Compare it to the first two Deus Ex games where you had melee weapons you could keep using unlimitedly bashing or slicing enemies up without it becoming a cutscene each time and not having to wait for your energy to recharage before bashing things again. It was evne possible in the first two with the right augs and weapons to be a straight up melee character just bashing things I think without even being concerned about stealth.
After arriving at the MJ12 base, where enemies couldn't be knocked out I personally turned my character into an Alexander Anderson analog. So you're telling me that melee is not actually available as a combat option in human revolution? That's a little sad really.

what happened to the days of Skill, Will, and Strength?! What happened to the honor and greatness of the Guild of Heroes? if you ask me the Hero of Oakvale would be pissed if he saw how the world has changed at the hands of a crackpot game designer named Molyneux. Come on Peter! damnit man we need more of what made Fable: TLC great!

Melee is the only skill that is really usable in fable. Doing this just means that the "champion" just got nerfed.

So the new Fable will be taking a step backwards because hardware has taken a step sideways? Removing one of the three main methods of attack because 'you get no recoil'. If you're that bothered about player experience then ship 'Fable The Journey' with a weighted hilt. I mean, what's the point in Strength without a melee class?

What? The upcoming Deus Ex has no melee? Who told you that? There are entire skill sets in the game focused on melee. Not trying to be a jerk, but please, sources. I want to look into this for myself. I was already planning on doing a "Batman" play-through: melee, stealth, a bit of charm and explosives.

Deus Ex no melee? Please say it ain't so.

EDIT: are you referring to the lack of melee weapons?

Peter M. and the consumer are so far apart on this Fable: Journey thing (If I don't here Don't Stop Believing in it I know I'd be pissed) that I'm afraid Peter M. Now exists in two separate alternate dimensions.

I mean it was hard to fault him on Fable 2 and 3. He was giving the people what they wanted. Sure, their good or badness is opinion, but you can tell the guy just kept on choking on the steak he was trying to eat, but he was trying to eat it. Trying to deliver it, no matter how deluded he was. I can respect that in a weird way.

This. This is so far out of left field the first baseman is catching it.

I'm sorry, but fuck Kinect, and fuck Peter for yet again trying to sell a game as an amazing experience when it is a glorified rail shooter.

From watching some videos online of the game and reading about the game from various sites ranging from what people posted about their experiences with the leak to more professional sites playing the journalist preview. There are melee take downs but you have limited uses of them with having to wait for them to recharge and they are mostly for taking out a few people while trying to sneak around. From what I heard about the leak it seems like it doesn't change much more than that for the first ten hours.

Also from what I read, I don't get how melee combat would actually work if you could level it up considering the fact it seems ot me that the take downs are knockdowns which can't be countered.

Though it does sound like this you can use them fairly often -http://www.pcgamer.com/2011/04/04/deus-ex-human-revolution-preview-2
"Whatever you specialise in, you can usually hit people with your robot arms. A melee takedown, whether you choose to make it lethal or just a knockout, consumes one cell of power. Other augs drain those cells more gradually, and if you?ve got less than one full cell, you can?t use melee attacks at all. The good news is that your last cell always regenerates over time, so if you?ve run out of absolutely everything else ? and I frequently did ? you can still stalk a room full of enemies with a slow rhythm of sneaking and punching. Later levels have more energy bars ? actual food ? that restore one cell of power each, letting you store up a few cells for quick series of takedowns.

Once I got the hang of it, I tended to overuse the vicious third-person beat downs. I finally found the hostages, still alive in a room with a toxic gas canister ready to release. Its trigger was tied to the door I just came in through, so I had seconds to save them. I couldn?t see a prompt to defuse the bomb, so I approached the hostages hoping to carry them out. All I got was the usual melee prompt: tap the button to knock them out, hold it to kill them. Well, I didn?t want to kill them. Tap it is!"

But still, it isn't like you can just punch or whatever yo uhave to be near an enemy and then a button choice comes up and you choose whether lethal or nonlethal. Just don't expect to be able punch things as much and often as you want in the game. Either you have to find shit to restore your energy or wait however long it takes to recharge your energy.

It isn't nearly as bad as Fable Journeys but still a decision I dislike about Deus Ex 3 and like I said was being facetious in my first post in this topic. =)

BTW, still very interested in Deus Ex 3 besides stupid design decisions like this and mandatory boss battles.

The game is being designed around the hardware. Kinect is a new piece of kit and must be used, even if that means that the player is limited in his ways to play the game.
Wasn't Fable built around the idea that you can do whatever you want? So much for free choice in Fable.
