*sigh*

The February 2010 issue of Game Informer states that there won't be a new Half-Life game released in 2010. What's more, it's not even clear what form a new game would take. It could be Half-Life 2: Episode Three or it may be Half-Life 3.

I really hate you now Valve.

http://www.cinemablend.com/games/Rumor-No-Half-Life-In-2010-22325.html

You know... the more I think about this the MORE pissed off I'm getting. I really believe they don't know exactly how to end the series or where the hell their plot is going. It's like if JJ Abrams wrote up the entire first season of LOST, then when asked "What does it all lead to?", he just shrugs and says, "I don't know, we'll figure it out later."

What's that die-hard Half-Life fans? You don't think Valve would do that to you? OH? Well they ALREADY DID! Look here:

http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=181620

"We don't know entirely what's happening in the next episode, but we're gonna figure it out!" laughed Speyrer. "There are always things we want to do that we can't because of the constraints of either the story or the arc we've laid out for the gameplay - or just time. So we shelve them and carry on. Ideas fly around here quite a bit, so we have this huge laundry list of things to try for the next thing..."

Note that was said about ONE year ago. So, about one year ago, they said they don't know what's happening in the next episode? Now, ordinarily, I would just say that is Valve being secretive about what is going to happen; but the fact that we haven't seen screenshots, trailers, or any other info about the game? I think they really don't know what to do with the story. I seem to recall something Laidlaw said prior to that article about not knowing what they were going to do next.

Maybe I'm just too pissed off at Valve right now to do anything other than foam at the mouth and point fingers in random locations while chewing on my keyboard. Maybe I have the space madness. Whatever it is though, Left 4 Dead 2 and all the publicity it received (flying boycotters to Valve HQ and such), and the rumors of Portal 2 (don't get me wrong, I love Portal, but...) are not HELPING me calm down.

/loud noises

Sorry, but I'm prone to angry rants when it comes to the status of Episode 3. If only they'd give us a screenshot or some information about the game.

So Valve makes vaporware in their flagship series. So what else is new? They need to take a lesson from Telltale Games when it comes to delivering episodic content in a timely manner.

Congratulations on starting the 30,000th thread on Gaming Discussion.

A whole year without a Half life game?. Oh no, looks like I'll have to wait for Diablo III to calm my raging soul.

:/

*sigh* I could guess it wasn't being released this year by the lack of information on the internet... but anyways this one better be pretty damn good with all the time there taking...

While I DO find this annoying overall, I generally find it worthwhile to count my blessings these days what with DLC and DRM debacles becoming the norm.

Valve makes good products.

Valve is one of VERY few companies I can consistently rely on for good games.

Valve can take all the time they want as long as the end product is good.

Deep breaths everybody...

Oh buggery. I don't particulary care, but just how long will it take? This starts to get annoying.

It better be on Source Engine 2.0 for all the time they're taking on this. I love Valve, but they're REALLY getting annoying with this.

I dunno, as long as it's good - no GREAT - when it comes out I could care less how long they spend on it. Better to wait and get a perfect game then get a more or less decent one now (thinly veiled reference at Telltale here*...).

Not that their games aren't good, but it seems all I ever hear about them is the hype train for the first one. I usually play the demo and think it's alright, then the next time I turn around theres like 8 games in the series and they've all gotten lukewarm reviews.

This is not what I want from the Half-Life series. As long as they finish it this decade and it's appropriately epic honestly I'm happy.

What a joke, then again I'm sure that Valve has honestly pushed it to the side so L4D2 and whatever can take up more of the workload.

Not that I'm complaining, since a lot still goes to TF2 a game I love to death.

You know I'm just as much of a HL fanboy as you but not even I'm not looking forward to it.

Afraid the best from the series has come and gone and could be down hill from here...>>

Everyone is always mad at valve, then when the game they want comes out they looove them again.. And then get mad that the other games they have planned are taking too long.

Valve can release high quality games probably faster than any other company these days. Then again it helps to have the base engine already made up.
And offer free DLC for their Multiplayer games, support the modding community, maintain steam, et cetera.

I think Valve is doing all they can, and a pretty damn good job while at it.

There is no half life 2 episode three because everything the folks at valve came up with did not have the epic feeling of the previous entrants to the series. if they had a slick storyline that they could pack into an episode, they would have released it. instead they went to work on zombies.

If they turned out a half life 2 episode 3 today, and it sucked (or was only slightly better than killzone 2), you folks would start 30,000 threads about "how far thou hast fallen, dearest valve, why art thou teh sukketh?"

The fact that everyone is still talking about half life 2 as the role model for the current generation of shooters says something about valve. Episode two's final battle is a fantastic example of excellent story delivery, really pushed the envelope.

Do they now turn out something subpar?

Or are they charting out the next evolution in shooters? who knows.

I'm going with the classic defence argument. Better to have a good game to continue the the games legacy, even if it takes longer.
