It's like if JJ Abrams wrote up the entire first season of LOST, then when asked "What does it all lead to?", he just shrugs and says, "I don't know, we'll figure it out later."
Isn't that exactly what happened??

You do know they did do that right? I can't find the article but they did admit that they didn't write the ending until finally deciding to end this season.

Although I am a little annoyed. I'm muchly looking forward to HL2: EP3

Disappointed? Yeah, sure.
Surprised? Hell no.
Pretty much this.

Oh well, at least I actually have faith in Valve to make good games, and I'm glad they take the time and effort to ensure the quality, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't want it now-now-now-now-now-now-now!

Wasnt really looking forward to it anyway..
Was this post needed? Did you honestly see a need to post something that has nothing to do with the OP? This isn't a, "Are you excited for HL2:E3?" thread...

In my opinion two bad things are happening with Valve right now :

1. The love of money epidemic hit them last year when they decided cashing in on an what is actually nothing more than an add on to L4D.
2. They are to much of a group of perfectionists and they take to long to make games. Everybody loves their games including me but we will all forget where Ep 2 left off if they decide to release Ep 3 in 2011.
It's the second. If you take away Valve's time, and make them release it in an hour, they all turn into Weredevelopers and start destroying things. Which leads me to...

Valve Time

Go look it up. And why does everyone get all pissy that they haven't gotten Half-Life 2: Season 6: Episode 3? I want to play a new Half-Life game, yes, but there are other things. If you've devoted yourself to one game series that you slowly reach for the nearest sharp object to thrust into your stomach every time the game takes a little longer, you are just the biggest of the big when it comes to fanboys. Valve should just burn down their own game studio, just to do a big "F-U" to all of the crazed fanboys. To quote Blizzard, "The release date is when it's done".
It`s funny but you are in fact defending them.
By no means are the people who posted here fanboys, just people who recognized a good game and want to relive the experience. There is nothing wrong with that statement and the fact that so many people eagerly await HL2Ep3 with the money in hand should impulse Valve into working hardly not throwing random stuff around. I don`t own a business of any kind but telling people to "fuck off, it ain`t ready yet" doesn`t sound like good public relations. Would you return to buy from a store where the employees were rude to you ?

*sigh*Sorry, but I'm prone to angry rants when it comes to the status of Episode 3. If only they'd give us a screenshot or some information about the game.
Yeah I know, even Duke Nukem: Forever has screens. But we all know how that turned out.

I personally feel like at this point their ideas were too grand for a simple episode. I think they're making Half Life 3.

But I'm an optimist.

I think Team fortress 2 is feeling happy it's big brother gaming franchise is getting all the 'vaporware' claims now. I can imagine a conversation between the two games.

*2005*
Half-Life 2:Ha, I have been a huge success, you haven't even produced a new game since 2001.
Team Fortress:Bu-But I'm working on it, I'm just taking my time so I'll be better eventually
Half-Life 2:YOU ARE VAPORWARE YOU HEAR ME?VAPORWARE!
Team Fortress:NO I'M NOT.

*Episode 1 released*
Half-Life 2:Ep 1: Oh will you look at that, I'm so awesome, I don't even need a full game to sell, how many episodes have you made?Oh that's right.
Team Fortress:Shut up , I'll be getting a sequal soon, you see, I've already been announced.

*Orange Box released*
Half-Life 2 Ep 2:So you finally got released, enjoy your success because you won't survive another long development cycle, while me, I just produced another episode.
Team Fortress 2:You'll see, I'll get so many updates you'll see.

*Numerous TF2 updates later*
Team Fortress:Sup big brother I just got another update, how's episode 3 going along?
Half_life 2 Ep 2:Grrr Shut up, It'll be done when it's done.
I could picture a mini web series made out of this sort of thing... You should think about it!

I'd much rather play Portal 2 than Half Life, but even then that's dubious considering how perfectly the first Portal ended.

So Valve makes vaporware in their flagship series. So what else is new? They need to take a lesson from Telltale Games when it comes to delivering episodic content in a timely manner.

Congratulations on starting the 30,000th thread on Gaming Discussion.
Telltale Games do the Sam & Max episodes, right?

That's a bit different to what Valve are doing/aiming for.

Isn't Valve too busy raking in money with STEAM to actually bother developing games?
Left 4 Dead 2 came out in November.

OT: It will be Episode 3 - they've said before that Episode 3 will mark the end of the current story arc.

It makes no sense to just cut in half way with the brand new version.

Besides, Valve always take a long time - that doesn't make them incompetent. They've got enough money to do what they want, when they want.

I'd be surprised if development was even that far underway.

Anyway, I'd rather not hear about the game, instead of getting a release date that's changed 100 times over 3 years.

It's only been two years.

I'm more than happy to wait, I don't know why people complain so much, there have been games with much longer delays.

It will come, and hopefully it will be awesome, but I have no doubts that Episode 3 will be made.

I have given up on Half-Life 2: Episode Three coming anytime soon. I'm currently envying Mass Effect 2 and Bioshock 2, and after that perhaps Duke Nukem: Forever.

Great, now its going to have to be better than both EP 1 and EP 2 combined... Well that won't be hard as EP 1 was terrible.

Meh I'll play it to see what happens in the story but I think HL 2 was the best, both EP's haven't been anyway near as good in my opinion.
