[HEADING=1]CAN PEOPLE PLEASE STOP COMPLAINING ABOUT EPISODE THREE!!!!![/HEADING]

Seriously people, it's getting ridiculous now. Episode Three will come out when it's ready. It takes several years to make a good videogame, and believe me, this is coming from somebody who knows. I do my research, I want a career in the industry myself, so I know pretty well how long it takes for a good game to be developed. Especially something that's going to be put under a shitload of scrutiny when it finally gets released...

And before anybody complains that L4D2 is taking up their time, or that it didn't take long to make, here are two points for you:

1. L4D2 was extremely quick to develop because pretty much all the tools and stuff were already there. They only had to develop a few new characters and levels, which is pretty simple, and when you compare them they aren't too different. HL: E3, however, may be using a completely new engine to Source, for all we know. It is a pretty old engine now, after all. So naturally it would take longer. We just don't know.

2. Valve has several different design teams working on different projects, just like every other large developer in the industry. Games developers don't just stick to a single game, otherwise they'd never be able to make enough money to stay in business. There are plenty of design teams and smaller studios within the company working on different games, which means any progress on L4D2 would have had little, if any, effect on Episode Three.

A whole year without a Half life game?. Oh no, looks like I'll have to wait for Diablo III to calm my raging soul.

:/
Sadly Diablo 3 isn't coming out this year either most likely, you're going to have to settle for Starcraft 2, or just do like I do and replay Diablo 2 for the billionth time.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooooo[small]ooooooooooooooo![/small]

Gods damnit!. That makes my 2010 list come down to Bioshock 2, God of War III, Alan Wake and Starcraft 2.

At least on the 29th this month I have my money ready for Mass Effect 2

It's a rumor, nothing has been confirmed. Don't believe everything you see, read or hear. ESPECIALLY from Game Informer.

Indeed. And there's always the doubt that SC2 may not come out this year. For me I only looking forward to Aliens vs Predator, Napoleon:Total War and probably ME2.(When I finish ME1...I'm lazy.).

Here's hoping at least Starcraft 2.

i would like the episode, or sequel, to come out, but this is valve... they are delaying and delaying.
BUT i really like the series, and the customer support and their games.
They could better spend five years from now making the next EP/sequel, and it turns out to be completely AWESOME, than less time (like 1/2 years from now or something like that), which would turn out just plain awesome

At this rate the mod community will beat valve to the punch.

There is no half life 2 episode three because everything the folks at valve came up with did not have the epic feeling of the previous entrants to the series. if they had a slick storyline that they could pack into an episode, they would have released it. instead they went to work on zombies.

If they turned out a half life 2 episode 3 today, and it sucked (or was only slightly better than killzone 2), you folks would start 30,000 threads about "how far thou hast fallen, dearest valve, why art thou teh sukketh?"

The fact that everyone is still talking about half life 2 as the role model for the current generation of shooters says something about valve. Episode two's final battle is a fantastic example of excellent story delivery, really pushed the envelope.

Do they now turn out something subpar?

Or are they charting out the next evolution in shooters? who knows.
That would only mean that they missed the point of episodic releases even worse than we initially thought. The point of episodic content is that you plan out the amount of content that would normally equate to an expansion pack or so, and then split it up into manageable chunks that can then be released every few months. If they didn't have a story, or at least a basic outline, planned for all 3 episodes to begin with then they shouldn't have taken the episodic route.

Honestly, Valve hasn't made anything I've liked since HL2, and even that was good but not great for me. I stopped caring about HL3 several years ago.

I want it soon, if only for the fact that when they do finally release it, it'll probably never run on anything i can afford for years (such as half life 2 originally)

*Crosses fingers for episode 3 on source*

Well, you care enough to post.

But anyway, like anything else, valve has to adapt to changing situations. The unexpected smash hit of portal meant the fans wanted more storyline-- ep 2 worked the two stories together.

So you have two games which had the highest acclaim-- boy, I'd be nervous about the crossover two.

Isn't Valve too busy raking in money with STEAM to actually bother developing games?
Left 4 Dead 2 came out in November.
L4D2 is a glorified expansion pack and calling it a full-feature game is about as justified as calling ODST anything more than a cash-in.

Really?

I haven't played either bar the demos - but from what I'm aware there's 5 new campaigns, new characters, items, guns, game modes, an updated engine, improved AI and changes to the Director.

That and my friends who play it say there's quite a noticeable difference between each.

You've played it then, I take it?
