The Philippines my country is the only country in South-East Asia whose main religion is Christianity.

So when it comes to Laws, Rules, and Regulations that involves Condoms and other contraceptive products and methods it's sure that the church must have a say in this no matter how stupid and baseless it is.

So when a "barangay"(community) ordinance was being presented called Ordinance no.1 entitled "Protection of Unborn Child of 2011" that requires someone to have a prescription in order to buy condoms it gained a lot of criticism. And if the pharmacies around the area don't follow this(if it will get ever get passed) they will be charged with selling illegal drugs(Are you kidding me!) and may even loose their license to operate.

In fact those bat-shit crazy priest are even against this stupid ordinance.
Thankfully the mayor of Multinlupa(the city where the community is located) blocked it.

So what do you think guys?

My friend's brother lives in California, and he has a medical marijuana license. This took very little effort on his part. I'll assume it wold be a similar process.

medical prescription?...

so what do you have to have aids or some other std to get condoms?
thats just stupid. if couples want to have sex without the risk of insemination, then let them.
they act like sperm is the most sacred thing in the world. well it isn't. sperm is a dime a dozen, eggs on the other hand...

It is indeed batshit crazy. People should be able to believe whatever superstitious claptrap they want, but religion should never hold sway over public policy, regardless of the individual beliefs of citizens. The reason for this is simple: issues of governance arise from the real world, and thus should be dealt with through rational, pragmatic solutions. Religious beliefs are NOT RATIONAL, and thus have no place in government and even less of a place in health care.

Wait, what is the point of this? All it would do is encourage unsafe sex, wouldn't it?
Usually the idea of these bans is to encourage abstinence.

Yeah, good luck with that.

The point is that allowing access to condoms means acknowledging that sex occurs, and the church can't have that.

"Sorry baby, didn't get approved for my prescription. Looks like it's BJs tonight."
And what a tragedy that would be ^_^

Seriously though.

I've never understood why they call it abstinence anyway, it's chastity. From my understanding abstinence means avoiding toxins such as drugs and alcohol.

I wish this was China, cause there they would just be foolishly wanting the pandas to stop overusing them so they can come back to a stable population level.

They really can't just let people live their lives can they? All this would result in is a lot of unwanted pregnancies.

Wow... this is the kind of thing that drove me away from organized religions. I still have my faith and have nothing against theirs, but it's the bat-shit-crazy/controlling people in them that ruin it. Start worrying about actual problems in the world instead of constantly trying to prevent and making people feel guilty for having sex. It's our own private lives, feels good, most always consentual between the parties involved, and a part of what we are as a species; deal with it and move on.

I'm sure if it's a religious group getting involved, they want people to say "We can't get condoms! Guess we won't have premarital sex."

What they fail to realize that people will actually say "We can't get condoms! Guess we're having sex without protection."

And really? Illegal drugs? It's not even a drug. *sigh* Whatever. Hope that crap doesn't pass.

That's exactly their point. Group it together with substances that are proven to do more damage to your body and people will start seeing it as a harmful practice.

My post was about withholding yourself from sex, not the pill or condoms. It's still messed up though.
