I don't think it's fair to dismiss anyone who felt nothing in 'No Russian' as an apathetic gamer or person.
People react differently to different situations and some people require more than a video game to stir up guilt or shock. I think that infinity ward created that section of the game for pure shock value to create controversy and boost sales.
I think you are absolutely right, of course it is a subjective experience. But to the point that I was trying to make, it was like everyone was defending the level before the game was out and it was under some scrutiny, saying how artistic expression shouldn't be limited in games, but a lot of those people really just wanted to shoot things. All those cries were just excuses by a lot of people who wanted to play a level where you kill civilians.

I went along with it. I shot every motherf***er the terrorists were. I felt special incentive to shoot the dudes crawling across the floor. I swear I did it because the character is a double agent, not because of a perverse need to shoot innocent pixels.

I haven't played it yet- but I'm going to get a lot of fun out of killing every person I run in to in that air port when I do get the game. From what I've heard its the best level of the game

I killed ALL those motherfuckers! hehehehahahaHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! No seriously, I played it at a friends house because he kept raving about how emotional it is. I felt nothing. To me it felt like something meant to get the game more publicity and sales. It seemed like a weak attempt to capture the shock and awe from the nuclear blast in the first game. And that's my honest opinion.

I shot every one xD

I loved it when their was a guy dieing by the wall, you could just go right up to their face look them in the eye the shoot them, it was funny :p

i don't see the big deal about that level, it was immersive and stuff but you can kill any civilians in GTA or even oblivian and fallout 3 (except kids) so what make this so special, but if you found it disturbing that's ok
You can kill kids in Fallout 3, hell, I killed everyone in that underground kid city.

I have played too much Left 4 Dead to get upset about shooting computer generated civillians. (On reflextion I think it is a good thing that i don't own a gun :p)

I shot and knifed, as disturbing as it sounds...but hey, i figured if I did, i'd be a convincing undercover agent, regardless, i still got shot.

Didn't shoot anybody until I realized that I had no choice but to kill the riot-shielded guys.

It wasn't because I would feel bad. I just figured there might have been an achievement for not killing anyone. Guess I could have checked first, but eh.

I shot absolutely everyone, used the grenade launcher as well to watch them go flying. Then I reloaded the level afterwards so I could do it again. Games can have an impact on me but this didn't at all.

I played it and shot some people, and let others live. I didn't have a system about it, I just mainly shot people who seemed like fun people to shoot. This level wasn't even that taboo sicne I have played Postal. I REGRET NOTHING! (someone PLEASE get that reference)

New question: Does anyone else remember when people played video games to have crazy fun doing things they couldn't in real life? My answer is yes, it was today, just like the day before that, and I'm sure it will happen again every day following this day. Or until I can no longer play games. I used to kill peasants in Warcraft II by sending them all at once to get slaughtered by the orcs just before I sent my army in because it was funny. Pixels don't have feelings, or families haha.

Felt a little startled, i killed some people, but not all of them. Conserved most of my ammo for the police, since I was playing on Veteran.

I fired at tvs and above peoples heads, I did it pretty haphazardly though so I think I probably killed a few people, was kind of annoyed with the swat bit, didn't really want to kill them (but I did) and dying broke the immersion. That said I restarted the level where you have to run without a gun, after screwing up the jump, restarting a few metres away ruined that moment for me.

Seeing as I don't have the game and never will, my answer is: I didn't.
But I am still posting here to say this:
What is the big deal with that level? I mean, you don't do anything there you haven't already done in every GTA and Saints Row game. If you have played Postal 2 you have done much much worse.
So if I did play that level, I would shoot everything in sight.
I think it's the level of realism in the reaction of those being shot. In GTA people often make jokes or run away or your character says something over-the-top that undercuts what?s happening. In MW2 people beg for their lives or try to pull away bodies of family/friends/strangers or try to protect survivors but then get shot in the head for trying to help. You're also hit with a horrible sinking feeling that it might inspire something in real life in future.
THANK YOU.

As for me, I didn't shoot anything and also expected Makarov to start bitching at me. Eventually I started executing people who were wounded and crawling around, but I never really shot up huge crowds.

I didn't know there would be a level like that until I played the game; I didn't watch and analyze EVERY SINGLE DAMNED TRAILER AND GAMEPLAY VID like some people did. So it came as a nasty shock.
