i bought dead island, looking forward to a good zombie slashing game. i got home unwraped my new game with that fantastic new game smell, put it into my ps3 and right off the bat i need to download a patch, now i had read up a little on the game before and knew that there were some problems, but nothing that would really spoil the whole game and after dealing with fallout new vegas i had tons of practice. Once i got started playing i was loving it slicing and dicing zombies was sensational. my first sitting i played up to the end of the first act and then stoped to have lunch with friends, came back started playing no problem i got to the start of the jungle area and spoted again for some sleep. When i got up i started playing again but were was i in the jungle no back at chapter 8 at the church, losing all my money, inventory, weapons and, levels i thought what the hell and then i thought no its fine i just forgot to save i go looking for the save button and there isn't one, so i went on got back to were i was but was not able to get most of the really good weapons i had. Then continue to play the rest of the story, by the end of the day i had finished the game and had started the challenge mode were you start the story over with all levels and weapons. I start the game for a third time and im back at the church losing everything again.

So if your thinking of buying the game dont at least not yet for ps3 dont know if xbox has the same problem. I've looked for solutions but nothing works if you learn something please tell me. Anybody else having same problem?

EDIT: sorry for being text heavy and any improper grammer, i dont do many post so pls give advise.

The game doesn't have a "Save" feature, it has checkpoints, as arbitrary as that sounds.

The checkpoints are all over the place, so I don't know why your game keeps sending you back to chapter 8. I would say your game is probably bugged, but other than that I go nothin', sorry.

YOUR GRAMMAR! IT SIZZLES!!

This may cut into my purchase factors. No game is complete without a save slot. Thanks for pointing that out, broham.

I thought it had autosaves and checkpoints: the autosaves marking your progress at certain points and persisting through shutdown, while checkpoints being temporary saves only active during play.

That is weird, you should have ran into checkpoints throughout that. I wouldn't know why it messed up as nothing like that happened on my copy for the 360. Though I do feel that they should have had a save feature and not just checkpoints for saving.

I've been playing the PC version Co-Op with my husband for a few days now and haven't encountered anything like this. Granted, we're not quite as far along. Still in Act II.

Hopefully this doesn't come up for us, but at this point, I honestly wouldn't be surprised. I like the game and all, don't get me wrong, but it's easily the buggiest and most broken game release I've seen in quite some time.

Fallout: New Vegas gets a lot of flak, but compared to the completely broken "developer" version of Dead Island that my husband ended up with for buying it on Steam, the Co-Op mode of a Co-Op oriented game being completely down for the first day or two, the always-on voice chat that can't be disabled, and a laundry list of other problems make Fallout: New Vegas look like a flawless release.

Yeah, the game's a little buggy. When I was in the first resort area it teleported me to a random place in the city area upon loading the game. This was before I'd gone to the city. But then I reloaded the game and it worked just fine. There were also several occasions when I couldn't turn in a quest because the quest-giver had disappeared.

However I enjoy this game too much to let a few wee bugs bother me. Balls to the imperfections I say! Play and have fun!

Dead Island saves pretty regular for me.

When I hand in a quest, pick one up or fast travel it saves.

Multiplayer is broken as hell, that's for fucking certain. First time I joined someone, my game audio died completely, my microphone got forced to constant broadcast and I read on the Steam forums that chapters 14-15 get talked up as what's known as "save file killers" (you get to X chapter then you crash then you lose your file for no reason).

This has happened to me a lot also. The game says it saves all over the place, but there is almost this file deletion issue on the PS3. (Don't know about the other consoles but this has happened to both me and my friend on our PS3s. Heard 360 has a lot of the same bugs as the PS3 version also, but I'm not sure. The PC version is apparently crap)

the always-on voice chat that can't be disabled,
Me and my friend had this problem but we found that if we set the windows default to a setting we weren't using 'line in' in my case. It effectively diabled the in game voice chat and we could just use skype with another input device. I hope that helps you.

It's a pretty rubbish omission although Borderlands had that problem aswell.

We found that Steam just kept booting us out of the multiplayer so we set up hamachi and it's been fine since.

We have only had the save problem with one quest so far so I hope that was it for us...touch wood. It is buggy but it is also a lot of fun and immersive.

The PC version works just fine. im at the end of act three and no probz so far with checkpoint saves wich appear with every quest solved. If i were you i'd kick my PS3 in the nuts and Shout "Who do you voodoo *****?" to it, till serious people in white coats come to give you a nice jacket with no open sleeves.

Loads of games don't have a dedicated save function (Borderlands, GoW etc.) but that doesn't mean they're bad games. you just have to make sure you hit a checkpoint before you switch it off. Its inconvenient if you've got to rush but aside from that I don't see a problem.
