Because it is a way to approach a situation without aking who hates it. If you are getting angry about this, then you reeeeaaaaalllly need to get out more. When you start getting pissed about a phrase or whatnot, thats when I put my foot down. This is an everyday saying, get over it.

My favorite example of a stupid question will always be: Can I ask you a question?

Seriously, this needs to end. "Am I the only one?" NO YOU ARE NOT!
I don't think it's annoying. It's just an expression you use to show that you're in the minority.

Am I the only one who doesn't really care and thinks that people who post "Am I the only one" topics are just making a weak attempt to gather attention by getting people like you to look at their post and then flame them, just so the can have their attention fetish fullfilled?

...Is there such thing as an attention fetish?
There's a fetish for eeeeeverything.

Because I'm grumpy, I'm not going to join in with the game.
I am, however, going to point out that it's a figure of speech.
Get over it.

Am I the only one who is wondering why you guys aren't posting this in the "Am I the only one" Game [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/362.206738-The-Am-I-the-only-one-Game] thread?
I posted there :D

I admit I was sorely tempted to post something similar to this myself.

Another irritating trend at the moment is posting a rant about something then making the title of said rant a question as if making it so somehow legitimizes the opinion within.

"Why do people think communism would work?" Anti-communist rant.
"Why do people like MW2" Anti-MW2 rant.
"Why do people eat bread?" Bread-is-poisonous rant.

what's so wring with 'am i the only one...'. are you suggesting that if someone has something to say they should just leave it and screw the idea of conversation. with your ethic sir this forum and a lot of friendly conversation would halt.

I don't think people honestly believe they are the 'only one' in any situation. It's an exaggeration used for effect, when people are frustrated that their opinions aren't widely shared. I mean, that's still mildly frustrating, but still.
