Liberation in Asia?
You mean fighting a proxy war with the Soviets using the Vietnamese as puppets?
All because you were scared of communism, domino effect and all that.
While I'm agreeing with what you're saying (That guy is being a moron), I'd just like to point out that it wasn't ONLY America who didn't want communism to spread. It was a LOT of countries, America just took the most military action in Vietnam.
Otherwise, you're pretty much right.

George Carlin summed it up amazingly (he used it for Southerners but I feel it applies to the whole country)... Americans one on one are quite charming. However when you get more of them some dangerous genetics start floating to the surface.
Really? Because I would have thought it was the other way around. Or something.
Thank God someone put forth a reference to Carlin. But anyways, carlin was essentually correct. Most Americans are quite nice people (really, we are), but all it takes is one jackass to ruin the whole thing... Even worse when you get said jackasses in places of power within our government...

I think your corporations are getting out of control, and their influence on politics is far worse then anyone is willing to admit.
But the really scary part is these nifty practices are being picked up by companies in other countries, or simply US companies extending over the border and money has no borders.

The fact you made a thread asking how people view America is probably a strong contender.

Arrogance.
There are tons of threads about "How do you view _________" for everywhere. I'd wager that the American ones pop up more because (Correct me if I'm wrong, this is pure speculation) this is an American-run site, which would lead me to believe that there is a larger number of American users.

All countries have their good points and bad points. They have their sensible people and their morons.

As a South African, I admire the American sense of patriotism as I see a lack of that in my country. I don't like the American over-inflated sense of self worth and I prefer the more modest take on things the average South African has.

I am jealous of the technology and opportunities available to Americans while I don't understand the Hollywood mentality and celebrity worship.

I admire the capitalist system on one hand but I detest the greed and materialism it promotes.

I can related to the gung-ho attitude and brotherhood of US armed forces but I wonder how many of them know or believe in what they are dying for.

I don't get Baseball or Football..... then again, I'm sure Americans don't get Cricket or rugby :)

I won't mention religion or politics as I care for neither. :)

I only like one american, Jesse Cox (From OMFGcata, on youtube), which is odd, seeing as he has the attributes I generally dislike americans for having, to name a few, he constantly insists America is the greatest, he's not the most intelligent person I've seen (to be polite), and like most Americans, he is just awful at geography, I bet if I told him I was from Wales, he would either say "Where?" or, "Isn't that somewhere in England?" but the way he acts, and how he "uses" (for want of a better word) these traits are hilarious.
On a side note, to all americans, YOU DID NOT DEFEAT THE NAZI'S!!!! That was the British and the Russians, who lost more soldiers than you many times over, and when you destroyed Hiroshima and Nagasaki, devastating Japan and killing millions of innocents, War on Britain was already over in the main, Japan was mainly your war, and it was nearly won in any case. (Yes, I do dislike Nuclear Weapons)

Hey. I am an American and i think almost everywhere is just as good. We have more things, and waste like a *****, but still... I don't really think that we deserve ALL the hate we get.

Well, I see a country filled with basically all types of people, from the most brilliant geniuses to the stupidest right-wing-christian-conservative-idiots in the world. Unfortunately the later tends to be yelling the loudest most of the time, at least that is how it has been during my entire life.
Still, I'm not gonna judge 300 million people based on Sarah Palin and Fox news, even though it can make for some dumb-fun jokes every now and then (No hard feelings, right? ;)

Now, I'm going to try and be as honest and objective as possible.
I'm from a European country where there are many idiots, to the point where the neo-nazi party has gained enough power to go around bashing foreigners (one of which i am-that is to say, I'm half british, half-that country). But, it is a country which thrives on tourism, so there are many foreigners. Now, most Americans to venture out of your country, i would at lest call open-minded. Would, but can't. You see, since i live in the capital, i do tend to talk to the tourists, because i want to know how they see us, and how they see their country (it usually ends well). The thing with American tourists is that they abandon all pretenses of self-restraint, and let their ignorance and stupidity shine. This also happens with the natives of this unnamed country, but not with the other tourists. The most annoying fact is that they refuse to believe Europe as a union of countries, and INSIST, no less, that it is a country. Then, at the monuments (i'll give you a clue: it is translated s Edge-of-the-city) how mis-informed they are of what they are looking at, and have, in the past, asked the guide to step aside, and shut up, so they can have family photo. I wish i was kidding.
Now, i believe myself to be open-minded, so i will accept, that maybe, JUST maybe, we get all the white-trash, and idiots, not anyone of any worth. That would, unfortunately, imply that you have an inexhaustible supply of the white-trash and idiots.
Also, i would like to note the religious fanatics in America (watch a documentary called "Jesus camp". You'll see what i mean...), but if I even BEGAN on that subject, i would have been overtaken by a suicidal mania, and it would have gotten the better of me, before i could post this.
Please note that i do not note politics, or educational levels, or anything i can think of similar, as the Unnamed (but hinted) country suffers from the same ailments.
So, to synopsize: the above can all be explained with a Jeremy Clarkson Article, where he explains how an elderly American couple were pleased at a car-rental clerk at an airport, because he walked on only two legs, instead of four, and he could speak english, in defiance of what they had been told.
I m open to comments and criticism.

Well, to be honest, I don't have too negative view. US has been bag of dicks from time to time, but it had had its good moments too. Most of Americans I know are friendly fellas. Of course, there are the overpatriots, soccermoms, ignorant fucks and etc. but those kind of people are not just exclusive to US. I myself have not been in America, but I wish to. Seems kinda nice place to live overall.

Now that i have your attention, Lets not put words in my mouth. One For those of you who mention the eastern front, Unless you were a Russian, Finn, Pole or a German your nation probably didn't fight there. Yes there were more deaths in the East doent mean american blood wasnt spilled in europe. to Quote myself "How much american blood has been spilled since the 1940's for the liberation of nations in Europe, Asia, Africa, and the middle east." Not once did I say anything about America winning the war in europe on its own. I merely stated that lots of american blood was spilled in europe. Yes we entered the war in late 41 with men but we supplied all of the alied nations with war materiel and american merchant men were killed by german wolfpacks much earlier than 41. (I Know my history fairly well for whoever threw out that comment). This was a war we didnt have to enter and after reading discovered documents and some of hitlers memoirs, He had only a passing interest in the united states until we entered the war physically. Japan well they picked the wrong fight plain and simple and payed for it. Lets jump to Korea in which the UN asked us to intervene. By the way Korea wasnt a loss it was a draw or a tie (whichever term you chose to lose) Again we werent the only nation to engage in conflict there but we owned the bulk of the forces. Vietnam is still a contentious conflict here but those wonderful frogs (im sorry french man) screwed it up asked for our hep along with the south vietnamese govt and we went to help. In africa, we attempted to help the somali's (who are beyond anyones help) and lost for it and we run the C2 (Command and Control) for the NATO forces there, no combat ops for us and the European nations were unable to keep the pace up very well. Kuwaitis still say thanks for kicking the iraqis out during the first gulf war (Yes Multinational ffort led withby us with over 60% of the forces being US) and the second Gulf war, The Bulk of Iraqi People i spoke to when deployed over there thanked us for getting rid of saddam. Afghanistan you all are right on we would have never gone if that crazy OBL wouldnt have greenlighted the WTC attacks. As for us being the world police everytime america doent get involved nothing gets solved (look at whats happening in the african nations we dont get involved in and teh other nations do. Nothing changes. We get bitched at for not helping and we get bitched at for doing it all. You get it one way or another and it seems like when the shit hits the fan everyone looks to us.

Contrary to my views on the whole 9/11 thing I don't dislike America or the people dwelling there.

Quite the opposite, I've had 3 fantastic holidays there and never before have I come across a friendlier bunch of people than those I met while on my holidays.

Also during my time in the army I served with American soldiers and got on quite well with them.

I think America is the same as any other country. It has it's decent folk and it has it's dicks. You just find that the dicks in America tend to be twice as loud as the dicks anywhere else. It's a shame but that's how it goes.

British media doesn't paint a great picture of the states though. We do get a lot of your batshit nuts folks on our news. Mainly your incredibly insane politicians and some of your weird as fuck religious nuts.

While most of us know that's not the entirety of America there are people that view America as full of thick as shit crazy people.

But on the whole I do like America. You have your bad points and you have your good points but the people I've met and talk to have been friendly enough and that's all that matters to me.
Thank you, it's good to see someone out there that isn't completely bigoted.

I don't really like you. Mostly because most of you americans think you are superior to everyone else, which irritates me. I also hate you for the word "soccer". It usually sends me into a homicidal rage which I can't explain to the police.
We're not all like that, in fact most Americans probably aren't like that at all.

Also fun fact: the word soccer was invented by the British, it comes from the full name of the sport: Association Football and predates the use of the singular football.

America itself, lovely country.
Americans on the other hand, horrible.
id go into it but, its pretty much this:

i am canadian and currently i am sad for the usa. you guys are doomed.

you have a fairly ignorant, sheep like population that will always hold you back. about half of americans dont accept evolution. the greatest threat to your national security is the republican party and your broken congressional and especially senatorial system. you imprison more people (in terms of percent of population and absolute figures) that anyone else in the world and do so for borderline insane reasons (there are people in us prisons serving life sentences because they shoplifted some dvds and were convicted under your three strikes law). i heard that more than half of your population believes that jesus christ will actually return to earth in thier lifetime and raise them all to heaven in a rapture.

seriously, on my better days i feel sorry for you. on the rest of them i debate whether it would be more humane for the rest of the world to quietly press a pillow over your face while you are sleeping one night.
...except less polite and friendly.
i would also add:
the innate superiority complex every american ive ever met seems to have... (which somehow, gets blamed on other countries?)
...that fact that Fox News still exists...
...George W. Bush...
...funding terrorism...
...and the whole 'starting a war over fuck-all' business.

if only such a pillow existed.

The only problem that i have with America is the fact that they dont know what "Football" is, for some reason they thinks its a sport where you pick up the ball and run around with it, and they hardly use their feet...

Japan wasn't "nearly" won. Winning the war would've required a full scale invasion that could have killed EASILY the same number of people as the nukes did.

Was nuking them without warning or anything a bad idea? Yes, it was. The radiation and stuff was horrible, but it wasn't as unnecessary as everyone seems to make it out to be.
