Relaxed music that's modern enough so that people won't ostracise you?

So much indie rock!

Rush.

For the answer to any question involving music is ALWAYS Rush.

Then again considering you specifically say "chill" then I'd try some Moby:

No, music can always offend. Pop music offends me, classic rock offends my brother. Pick music you like and people will admire you for it. Be a man about this.

Bossa nova is pretty damn inoffensive. It's smooth listening that can be easily enjoyed on low volume as background noise to your hangout with friends.

The Fratellis? They're damn fun to listen to, but they don't draw attention from everything else happening in the room and every single person I've introduced them to have loved them ^_^ I wouldn't call them "chill" exactly, but they've got several really lovely acoustic stuff :D

My problem is I have too much metal. Most of it is good old fashion heavy metal, but metal nonetheless. I also have a lot of country, which most people have mixed tastes in. If I listen to what I want then the atmosphere is going to suck since it's a very musically diverse crowd.

Thanks for the good suggestions guys. A lot of ones that I'm going to use in a good mix.

btw, Fluffythepoo, I don't like the Beatles and I'm not wrong about it.

There is nothing wrong with Iron Maiden.

Okay how about Amy Winehouse, Lissie, Angus and Julia Stone, Lindsey Stirling or Adel?

Daft Punk.
Because anyone who does not like Daft Punk shouldn't go to parties anyway, and you should probably toss 'em out if they do show up.
You just can't go wrong with Daft Punk.

Miles Davis, Marvin Gaye, the Beach Boys, Queen, and the greatest hits of The Cure (must be greatest hits or else it veers away from poppy and into dark and weird) would all work for older stuff. For more modern stuff, maybe Flying Lotus, M83, the Avalanches, or Frank Ocean

I love you, you beautiful manatee. I have every album of theirs.
I have them as well, but I can't access them atm since my old Macbook died and I left the physical copies at home.

Woe is me etc.

But yeah, we gotta do a music cast together.

It needs a theme song, I'm thinking the "Welcome to the" part of "Welcome to the Jungle" - Guns'n'Roses and the word communicast.

1. I love you, will you marry me, you sweet cat-smurf?

2. I like the idea, but isn't communicast too long a word to replace "Jungle"?
We should maybe shorten it to just "cast", which would open a whole new string of possibilites, just think about it:
"Sweet Cast of Mine" "TCast about you" " Paradise Cast" "Mr Caststone" "Welcome to the Cast"

3. Now for some less Gun's and Rosey suggestions:
"One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Cast" - John Lee Hooker.
"I can't cast" - Genesis
"Message in a cast" - The Police
"Once upon a time in the Cast" -Dire Straits
"Have you ever seen the cast" - CCR
"Der Communicast" Falco
"Raspberry Jam Delta-Cast" Joe Satriani
"Cast of Burden" Stones
"There's a fire in the Cast" - Steve Vai
"Castman" Stevie Ray Vaughan

And if we want something without a pun:
"The audience is listening"- Steve Vai seems appropriate.

Moar:
"Cast and sexism" - Steve Vai
"Cast a thousand years wide" - Soundgarden
"Stop this 'cast If you've heard this one before" - The Smiths
"All along the communicast" - everyone in blues

Well then let's keep going:

"Burn" by Deep Purple.
"Smoke on the Cast" - Deep Purple as well
Doomsday Cast / Bleeding the Cast -Smashing Pumpkins
Careful where you cast - SAGA
Blinded by the Cast - Manfred Man's Earth Band
Hot for Cast - Van Halen
Cast it gently - Tenacious D
"Owner of a lonely cast" - Yes
"Animal-Cast it like a beast) - W.A.S.P
"Smooth Communicast" - Michael Jackson.
