I was listening to Frank Zappa talking with Johnny Carson on Youtube about music, musical preferences and the censorship thereof, and something Mr. Zappa said rang in my head. Here are the segments in question, with Part 2 being the one relevant to this discussion:

As the title implies, I took notice of the subject of "instrumental music" and instantly thought of the many, many, MANY video games I've played and what I've enjoyed. I've also seen the many threads of various bands on these forums but wanted to know how many liked instrumental music and which kind. My honorable mentions go to Chris Kline, aka vertexguy, (instrumental gaming music remixes) and Yngwie Malmsteen (Caprici di Diablo) but lately I've been listening to this over and over again for the past week:

Special thanks goes to John Funk for introducing me to these guys.

Tchaikovsky & other pre-20th century composers, nonvocal versions of ragtime/big band/dixieland jazz, video game ambiance, trance techno, & that stuff they sell at stores that has panpipes/bagpies/celtic flute & shit.

Wow, two chances to plug my series on video game music [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/groups/view/Top-Ten-Songs] in less than 24 hours. Noice.

Well, for some specific ones-

And for one nobody knows (with a metal remix in the related videos, if you're interested)-

EDIT: Hell with it, here's the metal remix-

I typically like soundscapes when it comes to instrumentals. I can't say I've listened to very much, but what I have on my laptop here includes the soundtracks to the three Lord of the Rings movies, the Halo Trilogy, Final Fantasy VII, and the Kingdom Hearts games, and my favorite actual instrumental artist is Keith Kenniff, an experimental ambient indie-electronica (Convoluted much?) artist who uses the moniker "Helios" for his work.

Though I like the Touhou thing the OP linked, as my own work in music is not unlike it (Instrumental rock/metal).

EDIT: I wish I knew how to embed videos or whatever, now I feel like I'm not offering quite as much as everyone else because they need to actually search themselves to find any of Helios' work.
Extra EDIT: I've been known to enjoy some classical music in my time as well, most of the big names: Mozart, Tchaikovsky, Bach, Chopin, and I admire Georges Alexandre César Léopold Bizet for Carmen. Though it was an opera, there have been many excellent instrumental pieces from it.

At least half my music library is non-verbal. Choosing one song is difficult...but I think it just might be this:

Simple and so thought provoking in my mind.

You can feel the power in this one build; a good part to get to the Climax part is at 2:50

I just finished playing through Eternal Sonata (it was alright.) However, it reminded me of how much i love Chopin.
I chose Prelude in E minor because most people will recognize it, and because it's one of my favorites.

Well, I actually prefer the version of the 1812 overture that has a choir burst in at the finale. But it's still pretty good this way.

Those are two of my all-time faves. I got a nice (for me) set of headphones last Christmas and the first thing I listened to was All the strange, strange creatures. Followed immediately by The Fate of Little Adelaide. I absolutely adore Murray Gold's work, it's incredibly underrated even though it's rated highly.

Bonobo, Kiera; from the album Black Sands:(moving instrument/jazz-based electronica) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N7m86aMNjlQ

Phillip Glass, Sand Mandala; from the film Kundun:(tibetan-inspired soundtrack) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IIpgSBWRAsE

Nujabes, Counting Stars. If you haven't listened to him- start now. Amazing artist who's sorely missed. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2O0kuoiAm2A

The soundtrack to Chrono Cross is brilliantly composed, and the only video game soundtrack I listen to regularly. I'm quite partial to classical music, particularly Chopin. I also love traditional Celtic music.

Murray's music has inspired me beyond belief. It's great. I own every single Doctor Who CD (of the new stuff) and both Torchwood CDs (though that was him and Ben Foster). He is, by far, my favorite composer and his music is the stuff I can listen to over and over again and not get tired of, though everyone around me does seem to. Haha.
