Basically I got a PS3 for Christmas and a few games with it (e.g. Assasins Creed 2, MGS4) and I noticed that I didn't have any non-violent games, and all the games I wanted were violent ones.

I just wanted to know any games on the PS3 that are worth buying that don't include killing/attacking anything. Or more generally, are there any 'big' games on any platform that are violence free.

The only one that springs to mind is Little Big Planet, and that doesn't really appeal to me.

(checked the searchbar and couldn't find any threads that were too similar.)

Try Gran Turismo games, FIFA, any sport games, really. I can personally recommend FIFA 09 and Gran Prix World Championship. No violence whatsoever, mate.

Never thought about FIFA, thanks, I suppose I just didn't consider sports games.

Hmm, a good non-violent game? I don't know what you think qualifies as violence, but most sports games are okay. I personally enjoy the street versions of sports games, like FIFA Street 09 and stuff. Also, racing games are generally really fun. Uh, I would personally recommenced Burnout Paradise, but you crash alot in that game.(There is no one in the cars though, so no blood or anything)

other than the sports genre? All I can think of for PS3 is....well, nothing. Possibly Portal? Puzzlers are another genre.
Get portal, it's a great game.

Portal! Little Big Planet, Flower! The PS3 is backwards compatable, yes? (I don't know, I don't have one) If so, go for harvest moon, those games are great.

If by "Violent" you only mean gratuitous violence, then most RPGs don't fit the bill.

Afrika - can be atacked by animals but its not exactly realistic attacking
Burnout Paradise - genuinely awesome

there's a lot of gray area, some games are "violent" in the sense that you hit things and stuff, but i wouldn't class action platformers as violent because there's no blood and the act of hitting something is just a way to make it flash and disappear, so Ratchet and clank would be a good series to try.

Eternal Sonata is a good rpg which involves the turn based combat seen in many RPG's but calling it violent is like saying Mass effect has graphic full on nudity - you only would if you worked for fox news.
