Try loosing 257 hours of your like to a Fallout 3 save that decides to get buggy. And the only soltution I got from Bethesda? Load an earlier save. IT WAS THE ONLY ONE I HAD *cries*
You'd been quicksaving all that time? xD

If your able to ignore the ridiculous upgrade management as well as cut and paste scenery...
Oh, boo hoo, the customisation isn't that great. Too bad it has better characters, better combat, better RPG elements, a better storyline and more replayability than Mass Effect 2, though.
Right, because everyone knows that BioWare spent loads of time explaining how it was a throwback to deeper, old school RPGs...

Wait, no, that's what Dragon Age is for. And the rest of your complaints are completely subjective.

OT: I don't think I've ever had anything that bad, only stuff where a game crashes right after a ludicously hard fight and right before a checkpoint.

I've replayed ME2 4 times so I could have ...;

Completed Save: Where I .... chose Morinth over Samara ... let crew live thus copping some paragon points reducing my super scarred look ... saved everybody ... Council lived (Spectre status re-accepted) ... destroyed collector ship.

Completed Save; Where I .... picked Morinth and let the entire crew die (barring squad) and achieving max scars ... Go Ruthless Earthborn :D... Council Dead, Spectre Status revoked... saved collector ship

Completed Save; Where I... saved everybody, as a Spectre (council lived andd I accepted my spectre status back) of light and duty ... destroyed collect ship.

Completed Save; Where I ... let the crew died, revoked spectre status, council dead, but mostly a Knight of good and duty that saves all squadmates ... saved collector ship

Mass Effect 3, prepare to get your arse played off :D

I was playing Street Legal (a budget racing game) and it crashed while saving and I lost a lot of time and effort (I got to the 2nd island of 4, which isn't easy).
I also once had my PS2 memory card stolen, which had a GT4 save that I played on for probably a few hundred hours. I had built a Shelby Cobra that would devour anything (Even full-on race cars, its only downfall was the lack of a 6th gear so its top speed wasn't very high but it could reach it in no time at all).

Perhaps go make another character and play it the opposite way you did last time? Still sucks to lose that much data, but at least it'll cut down on some of the redundancy.

That is your PS3 punishing you for playing it on a PS3. Mass Effect 1 wasn't even released for PS3! Playing MS2 without a MS1 save is like playing a game that has had half of the content cut at the last minute.
Except you can choose every decision present in Mass Effect 1 for yourself at the beginning of 2, so it's exactly like a Mass Effect 1 save without having to play through a game you'd have to buy and spend days playing through otherwise to get the game you want.

holy funking shizz i just was playing mass effect 2 in the overlord mission. up until that point i had done literally everything possible in terms of side quests, dialogue actions, weapon upgrades etc and was almost done the story. then bam game freezes on a loading screen and i reset the system. next thing i know new game is the only option available. maybe i should turn off autosaving or something to prevent this from happening further?? DAMMIT! has this happened to anyone else?
Can you get all the content in it? I was looking on the Playstation store and it appears to have the added content separate. Does the PS3 version have Zaheed, the vehicle missions, Kasumi, and OVerlord?

Not really. You can make 6 decisions in the comic to carry over. I believe there were over three HUNDRED decisions that actually carried over if you had a complete Mass Effect 1 save.

Trust me, it makes a world of difference.

Ouch. I was pissed when I lost 2 hours of Fable 3. That really sucks. I probably would have burned my house down or something.[footnote]joke[/footnote]

You could try it again on Insane to give it a new bit of variety, OR you could try looking through the files on your hard drive to see if it's actually MISSING or if the game is just not recognizing it. If it's the latter, immediately copy it to like 20 different locations on your HDD so you don't lose it, then run some experiments (such as deleting it in the ME2 save area, and recopying it over and such)

also, Google

You don't even come CLOSE to making all of the decisions, I don't agree with what the first guy said that it's like a game with half its content gone, but you definitely get an advantage by having a ME1 file.

Does it make a MASSive difference?

I see what you did there :p

And I'd argue that it does. The level of continuity created in my unique ME universe is incredible, even if it's just an e-mail. It's the little touches that add up to something big, and an imported save is full of them. Additionally, the level of emotional connection to the ME1 characters is completely omitted from the comic, meaning that there's no good reason for new players to give a damn about them when they appear in ME2.

I guess I had a different perspective because I had played ME1 on an Xbox then and found very few interesting situations came from the sidequests.

My mentality is basically: Tali and Garrus squadmates forevah <3

My friend accidentally delete my Champions of Norath character when it was level 13. Hours and hours of lost playtime. I was quite displeased, but thats what happened. I then bought the sequel and realised what a waste of time the whole grinding thing is.

40 hours is a long time for me :(

I have redundant backups of everything I do.

The stories I write are synced to about 9 different PC's (dropbox + family).

You can never be too cautious :). I figure you'll die sometime, no need to rush losing it all before then.

Oblivion was coded to delete your stuff after you finally are happy.

Bethesda has a rule that their games must crash if the user is having fun. It's consistent as hell.

it means you get to replay, and more Mass Effect=awesome time :)

Bummer on the loss, but such a good game

At least there are no real bits that make you go "URGH I have to redo that part, it was impossible to get that how I wanted"
