Norwegian Terrorist Case Brings up World of Warcraft

As the Legal Case reaches its climax the courtcase agains the criminal who bombed a goverment building in Oslo and continued to kill multiple political youths in order to promote his personal political views on islam, the courtcase started with a brief introduction to World of Warcraft.

The speaker continues on for a bit about the concept of world of warcraft and how the game works with regards to servers and MMO.
As he nears the end of his speech, a jugde stops him to ask if the game contains violence, to which he replies: "The depends a little on how you define violence, I'll get back to that bit when it can be explained more easily."



Personally I am a norwegian gamer and I'm starting to feel stigmatized by the legal system, how do you react to this?

Why are we listening to this maniac and why does it matter what he says is what. Hes a maniac! Why should his views mean anything to us?! Let him rot and stop trying to justify it. He is obviously insane so its just dragging the case on unneccessarily. Hes trying to relate it to everything and anything he can and games, self defence apparently as well as social pressure and a court that has been lobbied by multiculturalists so he doesnt hold them in any regard. Why on earth does this trial need to contain anything more than:

"Did he do it? Yes. Evidence says he did it? Yes. Will he likely do it again? Yes. Life in jail. End of story".

A madmans motivation shouldnt change a madmans scentence.

It wasn't the criminal who talked about World of Warcraft, it was the prosecution. He talked quite a bit about the time he(the terrorist) played the game and told the court that he played it as a martyrs gift to himself.

To bring this up in a court case simply serves as way to put gamers in a bad light.

No, not really.

The defendant bringing up WoW would put gamers in a bad light, because it would imply that WoW attracts and makes maniacs.

You're quite right, if the defendant bringing it up would put gamers in a very bad light, but the prosecution bringing it up is still bad.
And if I'm honest, I think it's quite ignorant to point to attention the "violence" in the game as an important factor in the case as the jugde did when she asked about it.

I dont know, it seems pretty reasonable to me. They are obviously trying to profile him, why shouldnt they ask if a video game contains violence?

I just dont see the link between that and attacking the medium. Obviously it doesnt shine the best light on WoW players, but Breivik could mention he likes bagels and it would put bagel eaters in a bad light too.

He has released an manifesto of about a thousand pages(If I remember correctly), and has been declared phycologically unaccountable by a report and accountable by another. He has been scrutinized quite thoroughly by many professionals. The lack of profiling can't possibly be of that extent that they have to resort to reasons within the gaming community?

Im not sure why psych profiling needs to or should take place in a court room with the assistance of the prosecution. He should be tried first and profiled later by a trained proffessional outside the courtroom. It isnt the job of our justice system at this stage to understand him just to jugde his actions fairly by his peers and decide a verdict, if that strays into why he did it a giant manifesto on what games he played seems unneccessary, i feel they are two seperate things.

The manifesto mostly contains his view in multiculturalisme, marxisme, islam, liberals etc.
But he does indeed stray into World of warcraft, but not in a relevant way to the main contents.

He also mentions that he used Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 for training before the attack.

But neither wow or cod is the reason to, or motivators to commit terrible attacks as he did.(I say)
And neither do I want it at the core of this case, as it will link extremly bad behavior to games for the prejudice people who hates on games because they haven't tried them.
