Being a younger gamer, I never got a chance to play and DOS games in back in the day. However, the Elder Scrolls nerd in me decided to download Daggerfall from the Bethesda website.

After a spell of figuring out DOSBox and getting a hang of the combat system, I was blown away. A HUGE world, interesting combat, choices out the wazoo on character progression. I knew going in that TES II was different from III and IV, but this is incredible.

So, do any Escapists have fond memories of Daggerfall, Arena, Text-based games or old DOS games in general?

I recently got a chance to play Doom using DOS at my school. It was my first time using DOS and playing Doom, it was awesome.

Not specifically DOS, but I do remember having to create a floppy boot disk to run TIE Fighter on Windows 95. Those were the days.

Was it a screwy installation error? or did you get a "Not enough memory" thing too?

I've got fond memories of Commander Keen and The Lost Vikings, the great but little known platformers of the early 90s.

DOS games were amazing.

Raptor: Call of the Shadows is a personal favorite of mine.

I can't quite remember. I seem to remember the emu requesting a "disc" which is odd as surely daggerfall was on floppy o_0

I still play Curse of the Azure Bonds every so often, and I love the Gold Box Dragonlance games (Champions of Krynn, Death Knights of Krynn, Dark Queen of Krynn).

Also, I <url=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.194259-Off-Topic-Reviews-Ragnarok>reviewed such a game, once (a roguelike).

Zork. I played the fucking shit out of those games. Me and my dad would sit there for hours and peck away at 'em. I actually have an old-ass PC which I used for DOS gaming when the desire strikes.

Other then that, I played and enjoyed stupid amounts of DOS games. I've always been a PC gamer, so I can't even list all the games for DOS that I love.

Played this little Japanese RPG on DOS called Lunatic dawn 2 that I consider to be the only true RPG ever made. It's basically a sandbox fantasy hero simulator that has no story line at all. You just starts off creating a character and pretty much do whatever you want with it (albeit when the game allows), going around towns taking jobs, recruiting teammates and exploring dungeons. Spent countless hours on it.
