That WWII mmo but with more players.

Or a mercenary one where you go around modern warzones lvling and getting better and customized gear.
There has been a WWII mmo? WOW.Just wow.

And your second idea is fucking great.

It's still alive, still being updated, etc.

Such an ambitious game. It has much less players than it used to, but I'm amazed at what they pulled off.

Well, not only would I like to see an MMO that wasn't trying to be WoW (A man can dream) I think it would be cool if they had one based around time travelling.

Yep, am down with the steampunk aka arcanum idea. Not big for MMO's, but would def give that a few rounds.

I think the idea of in-world player-created content needs to really be advanced. Instead of the "kitchen utencil+ashtray=awesome weapon" system, or macguyver school of weapon design, I want a game where I can go to a workshop and decide how long I want the barrel on my snipe to be, with appropriate restrictions (weight, accuracy, materials ect). When I can make a cannon or minigun on a small trolley that I can push around, or put a ring of rotating blades on the end of my shotty, then I think it will be a lot more interesting in terms of unique combat dynamics.

Ok, heres my plan for an MMO.

WAR is stupid. Orcs again, elves again, warriors mages and thieves. Whatever. Been there done that.
War40k, though, thats a game.

Take the spore engine. Vast, procedural, limitless, and time doesn't matter. Just like warhammer. Put the player in charge of a small squad of units and have him adventure around finding artifacts and PURGING HERETICS or COLLECTING SKULLS FOR THE SKULL THRONE. Earn a spacecraft, hit the warp, explore the galaxy.

Traveling the warp takes some time. You get better at it as you get advanced and hire a better astropath or whatever. Travel restriction is controlled with warp currents.

Major battles at set locations become draws for players to win honor and glory. Otherwise, while you decorate the armor of your unit or dig for necron artifacts on some shithole moon, no one is around to fuck with you.

Spore would have been a lot more fun if:

1. it was a disjointed 4x game
2. it was warhammer 40k instead of spore.

the possibilities are endless for such a galaxy.
