That huge intro to Far Cry 2. It wasn't fun, at all, but I can still watch through it 5 times in a row.

Most games with some user controlled leveling up system I find a way to turn into a chore so I can max them out. Anything that gives me the opportunity to experience grind is usually engaging but not overly fun.

Exception? Pokemon. I could experience grind forever in those games, and I'm not even a huge fan (haven't bought one since Diamond). There's something about that where, even when I know what I'm doing shouldn't be fun, it just...is.

I'm torn about this choice but I will say it anyway,

Lost Odyssey. I did like the game. Its story and its characters, But I would never call it fun.
There's just enough enough gameplay -even with four discs- but I soon realised the reaon its on four disc is to cover all the cinematics it has. Sure I admire them but half the game play was travel 10ft and watch another cut-scene or talk to the rat in your cell to watch another cut scene... thats not really game-play is it. I found myself drink tea more than clicking buttons the whole game.

Again the game was good but it just wasnt fun. =(

Pretty much all of Heavy Rain?
He said no cutscenes and heavy rain is just one very long cutscene?!
"Only times when the player is in control."
Alright, to clarify: never played it myself, but I'd count Heavy Rain. I mean when there is some form of interactivity beyond a 'skip' button.

Silent Hill sums that up nicely.
Well I really can't say much more than that.

A lot of people (myself included) actually do find the Metal Gear games to actually be fun. Good thing too, otherwise I might have just fallen asleep during all of the cutscenes.

SWAT 4.

That game was nerve-wracking and often frustrating, without being much fun. But it was a more legitimate challenge, alot closer to the real world than ZombieSplatter 4, so that made it well worth playing.

Resident Evil 5. Was there a story? Why do I have to repeat this because it's now E instead of U? Why can I only knife while not moving? Why is 3rd person so terrible?

This.

Never before have I kept playing something that I very desperately wanted to throw at a wall. And even at the church section of SH3, right as I couldn't bear the atmosphere anymore, the gallons upon gallons of blood began to flow up the walls and there was NO WAY I was going to stop there.

I had to ask my brother for ideas:
Terminator Salavation, Stormrise and the indie title "How to talk to girls"

"Hey, how you doing?" "I'VE GOT BEAR MACE!" "WHAT THE FUCK! I'm never talking to girls again."

Most 'realism' elements in games. Like in RPGs that have the need to eat/sleep. Not technically a fun mechanic, but often become fan favourites.

Bull's eye!

That's the one title that I hold up as an example when people say, "games should always be fun". Nothing in those games can constitute as having fun, but the deeper you sink into its murky depths the more you want to be pulled down ever further.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 1 for the NES. There are parts where you die or fail constantly yet I kept playing and failing, at least until my dad shut the power off....

I mean game isn't boring, i love MGS. I started from Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake but the cutscenes are looooooooooooooooooooooooong! I (like most of the players) tried to keep up with the story but it gets really boring after a while.

MGS3 was awesome, sadly the loading time to get into the camo menue was Not-Fun...
